I miss my 8 sometimes, and while I wish the X was lighter, I’m sure most of the added weight is due to the L-shaped battery. It even changes the weight distribution of the device.

Wow. I’m speechless. Really?

Go on the apple store website. Place an iPhone in your cart and choose 60661 as your zip code (Chicago). You’ll see an option to have the phone delivered the same day in under 2 hours for $9.

Very strange that it’s news around here. I just picked it and didn’t think twice about it.

And yes, the phone was delivered in 40 minutes by a dude with some big bag. He called, I came down to my lobby, he asked for my name, gave me the iPhone and that was it.

Never asked for signature or ID or nothing lol. Maybe I should tell Apple that I never received it? - jk ;)

I’m not saying I don’t believe you, Its I have not heard that service before. But what I find highly irregular, is that they (Apple Or the delivery service) did not require any type of signature, confirmation or no was receipt was provided that they gave you an $800 iPhone? One could easily say that your phone was never delivered without any type of signature or invoice noting the exchange from the delivery representative. Thats highly bizarre.

I've got both. Each is great: The X is my everyday phone with my main sim - I use it for most things. The 8 I use in bed for podcasts and reading. Having 2 phones I hope to spread out the battery longevity of each.

Wow, you own 2 current iPhones and only use one for reading and podcasts while laying in bed? That’s serious money to burn. I use an iPad for that sort of thing and prefer a bigger screen and the fact it’s a third of the price. You could probably have just bought an iPhone X and spent £75 on a new battery in 18 months time. Just my thoughts though, ignore as you wish :)

Ok since you want opinions.

Yes, the X is miles better, 8 looks like a antique compared to it.

I have gone from the X to a 8+ and now settled on a 8. I much prefer the size, weight and overall ease of one handed use. My only slight concern will be battery life.

I own the iPad Pro but find it too big too do much in bed with it.

I started off with the 8, upgrading from a 6s then, when the X came out I didn't want to miss out. I have had 3 phones before but that was overkill..mainly so I could have an android to mess around with. But I got rid of the S8 and am full-on Apple now. I think,"What if something happened to my 8 or X". Owning each means that if one goes wrong/amiss I'll still have one great phone.

The word “better” is too vague and highly subjective. Better at what? Better specs and more technically capable? - Yes. No doubt about it.

Better at everyday maneuverability and ease of use? - Definitely not in my eyes. Better at being concealed? - No. Better at being operated with one hand? - No. Better at getting things done quicker? - No. Everything from unlocking to switching between apps is quicker for me on the 8.

Gave up on the s8?

Yes, I gave up on the S8 - it had that whole lacuna of a redundant button on the left-hand side.

Not everybody judges a phone based on how it looks though. Capability and what you get for your money are often considered so to the OP the iPhone 8 is clearly the better phone. If I was upgrading I’d be inclined to agree with him as I tend to feel the X is grossly overpriced for what it offers. It’s a nice iPhone, but I doubt I’d buy it.

It’s your money at the end of the day, enjoy.

The battery on the 8 drains in no time with my usage. It’s garbage in comparison. I realize that it’s smaller, but wow. I’m surprised it’s that bad.

In comparison, my X battery lasted forever it seems.

So yeah, an honest observation on something I miss. However, everything else I like about the 8 outweighs this one shortcoming.

What OS is your 8 on? I found my battery life to be awesome on 11.2.6, but now after a couple days with 11.3 (any indexing certainly done), it definitely is noticeably worse and drains quicker.

Phone is over priced. That is a whole seperate discussion though. 1000 + for a phone.
Good point you brought up, almost good to skip the x possibly and go to the 8/plus and save some money and see what the next models looks like.
[doublepost=1522608679][/doublepost]Guess those yearly upgrades can always come in handy.

With the addition of the wireless charging internals, glass and stainless bands all are factors to the weight as well.

I just left my X again for an 8. Not missing the X (yet). It’s only been a few days but I’m really not digging Face ID and missed my home button. Will try and use the 8 until the next iPhone launch and see if faceid gets any better.

Each to their own, personally I couldn’t part with my X to go back to a phone with bezels and home button.

Only way I would is if Apple dropped the X design and went back to the old design.

I’ve been using an 8 and 7 Plus since giving up on my X.

People can say the X is “miles” better but it’s not. Looks more up to date ... Yes. Miles better then a phone that has less pixels to push with the same processor? I don’t think so.

I’ve said before in this same thread. Yes the X looks more modern, but just because someone went for an 8 or 8 Plus doesn’t mean they’re inferior by any means. I’ve owned all 3 over the course of the past 6 months and besides design differences are negligible at best. Right now I’m using a regular 8 and am content. I’m sure I’ll upgrade to the new phone when it comes out as I always do, but ATM the 8 works just fine regardless of its “antique” look.

I can also understand someone feeling this way as well. There were things I liked about the X. Just not things I’ve missed by any means

Dear OP,
You’re not crazy.
After months of aggravation (and two X phones later) I switched back to my old 6s+ and couldn’t be happier.
I could write a 5 page article on the shortcomings of the ‘X’ but it would be misunderstood as a troll post by the fanboys.

Even though my X has been retired to my "junk draw" as an unacceptable failure by Apple...
1.) I look forward to seeing (and buying) whatever Apple shows us this Fall.
2.) After seeing what an ergonomic and functional disaster the X was I can appreciate what a brilliant design the standard iPhone truly is.

Regards,
-Ej-

The days of a phone looking "outdated" as a reason for buying the device are gone. That was true with the 4's, 5's and the 6. While some people still feel that way, most no longer operate that way.

1k is still a pile of cash. The phone has to be downright incredible for that price. When you go across the world and that 1k is actually 1.3k and up, the phone has to be even more incredible and the X is not. But that's Apple - version 1 is the ginny pig edition. We all know this, not an arguing point. It's not that the X is terrible but it doesn't deliver for the price tag. Talking majority, obviously some people don't think 1k is a lot and some people think the X is great. They're not wrong either.

after using my girlfriend's S8 don't think I could handle using another device where I',m not swiping up to access different parts of the phone. Be the same I'm sure when the new Face ID iPad comes out.

No I don’t think you’re crazy.

The iPhone X is in many ways a ‘beta’ for the next 5 years of the iPhone - or at least the September 2018 crop.

So I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all to go back to the 8 - which in many ways is the ‘ultimate’ classic iPhone form factor - whilst you/we wait for the iPhone X series to be usable (and cheaper) for the rest of us.

FID feels like a beta for me. It fails more often than Touch ID daily, and requires me to tilt the phone towards me more than I'd like to for unlocking. It's also annoying to unlock off a flat surface. However I think as FID gets better in the future it will be much better to use than Touch ID. Just not now. I would have returned my X had I could after a few months of use.

There are also other things I don't like about the X. Control Center location (can be fixed in iOS 12, but still), I often accidentally screenshot my screen, never did that on previous iPhone's, closing apps is more annoying, video can't make full use of the screen in landscape unless you want to zoom in and lose content top and bottom (and incorporate the notch too).

What I do appreciate about my X is the ability to switch apps using the home bar and having more screen in portrait mode compared to a 4.7" iPhone.

I also love dual speakers and wireless charging but that's available on the 8 series.

I also think the X is ridiculously priced. I would have been better off with a base model 8 for my needs.

Better if you prefer Touch ID, and a wider screen. I went with the 8+ for those reasons and love it. :apple:
