It's not crazy to prefer the 8 over the X. Many things on the X are "version 1" (FaceID, gestures, back camera unit, screen, design, etc). Plus it has early adopter price. Sometimes it is better to wait for a second or third revision (less bugs, more refined, cheaper).

I myself will aim for the red 8 Plus if the 2018 iPhones don't entice me.

I'm sure after I get used to the bezels, I could go back to the 8 or another iPhone model. Heck, I still have my SE that I still adore and that has bezels. But everyone has their own opinion. I love my X.
One of the reasons the iPhone X failed to seduce me was that does still have bezels. Yeah, not pronounced ones like the older models, but they’re still there and I think they make the X considerably less visually appealing than phones with true edge to edge displays.

Nothing really wrong with the X except the price.

I agree with the price, after using mine since it came out it doesn’t feel worth the price.

The contract fees are so expensive now without paying loads up front it is making me consider going sim only and saving for the devices.

You’re not alone - I hardly know anybody who takes a conventional 24 month contract for their device anymore. The prices are just beyond stupid.

I am thinking about going from my 8+ to the X. My son needs a new phone so I’m trying to figure out if I want to just get him an 8+ or give him mine and I get an X. I find the screen size nice on the + but the phone is heavy and big and I would prefer a smaller phone. I had a 7 but it was too small for browsing online. Just done know if I want to drop $1000.

When I take my phone out of the Tech 21 case it is closer to what I am looking for, so maybe I should just get a slim case for mine and get him an 8+ as well. I have AC+.

ATT iPhone X 30 months $30/month and I know I’ll upgrade after a year to upgrade. And would be similar no matter what phone.
So it’s the $60/month usage plus fees.

Cases are dumb.

Better than having a smashed phone though. I dread to think how many times a week my iPhone meets a hard floor either due to me being clumsy or my 1 year old daughter dropping it while playing kiddie apps. It would be smashed long ago by now without a case.

I can understand it if you don't have AppleCare and have kids. But otherwise cases are dumb. And they are still dumb nonetheless, just understandable.

At the end of the day it is a nice upgrade but it should be a couple hundred $$ cheaper easy.

Love the form factor of the iPhone X but I can't justify the price of it. I keep coming back to the question, Does it do $200 more than my 8 Plus? Sub-par battery life (for me), FaceID that isn't as good as TouchID (for me) and a camera that is basically the same as my camera minus portrait mode on the front facing camera. I also prefer having a full 16:9 screen format. All these things for me add up to the 8 Plus being a better value for me so I don't think its crazy for anyone to come up with similar thoughts and switch from an X to an 8(plus).

Thread is about X to 8 not 8 plus.

There is no point in buying any iPhone X/8/8 plus now at full retail, heaps of bargains around, i picked up a 1 week old 8 256gb for $600AUD on weekend, Apple sell for $1329, for my daughter, after playing around with it i couldn't go back to smaller screen from my X even though the phone is a nice size.

There is nothing understandable what you posted and not a valid argument at all. Cases are not ‘dumb’ regardless if somebody has AppleCare or not. They are a means of protection to the device if one chooses to use it and and likely have saved hundreds of dollars in repairs for those who have dropped their phones that may have resulted in damage if they were not using a case.

One drop of an X and it will have some sort of visual damage. Unless it is on some really plush lavish carpet.

I'm guessing you're one of those people who would own a Ferrari yet never actually take it out of your garage.

get an ipod touch for your daughter. that's what we did for my son around 2 yrs old and still has it. keeps them off our phones.

I agree there my little one watches Peppa Pig and sometimes she is a bit clumsy without a case it wouldn’t be a good idea.

They have an iPad 3 each loaded with films and apps but in the go if we’re out the iPhone comes in handy to pacify them in emergencies. The case protects it and to be fair I do my share of dropping it more often than not. I’m lucky the screen isn’t smashed by now.

No, you are not crazy. I think the X is a fine phone, but I have the 8 (regular sized) for the exact reasons you mentioned.
I love the size, fit, feel, look, weight, etc. of the iPhone 8.
I could almost go back to the SE, but the 8 is perfect for me.
[doublepost=1523901113][/doublepost]Could not have said it better, myself. I love my white IPhone 8.
