Get whatever you like and makes you happy! I’ve gone from the plus to the x to the note 8 to the plus and now to the product red 8 plus (I have jump on demand, not a vault full of gold). When I dumped the note I thought about getting the X but decided the changes weren’t deep enough in the user interface and I liked Touch ID much better than Face ID.

I know it sounds absolutely crazy, but hear me out.

Initially, I bought the iPhone 8 (non-plus) when it first came out. I used it for several months and then jumped ship to the X. I’ve been using the X for months now and I do like it a lot. Or do I?

I recently went to an Apple store and just for the hell of it, completely out of the blue, lifted the 8 again. Low and behold, I fell in love with it again.

It feels soooo much lighter than the X and much more ergonomically friendly. It’s just as responsive and something about that super sleek and small form factor just makes me want to make the switch.

Now, I realize that it’s a downgrade in many ways. However, there are some X features that I absolutely could do without. First is Face ID. It’s great when it works. I’d say that I find myself having to unlock the phone manually about 40% of the time, either because I’m unlocking the phone at an odd angle or due to lighting interference. I never had problems unlocking the 8, unless my hands were wet, which rarely happened. Second thing is the camera. Sure, it’s great, but too gimmicky for my taste. Don’t care for portrait mode and the zoom as I almost never use them. Additionally, I never once notice a difference in pic quality between my 8 and the X. Lastly, I could never personally tell the difference between the LED and LCD screens. I’m not saying it’s not noticeable. I’m saying that I never truly noticed. And although the screen on the X is bigger, it isn’t overwhelming so.

All in all, I do like the X. I had no problems with it, other than unlocking annoyances or inconveniences, whichever way you want to spin it.

Not sure what to do. My X is in immaculate shape and I know that I can still recoup most of the cost for it. The 8 just made an impression on me, again. I realize some people hate the bezels and the fact that it bears a design that dates back several years, but I find the build quality of the 8 is superb to prior models. And I personally don’t mind the bezels.

Am I the only person who considered going from the X to the 8? - The 8 Plus is completely out of the question as I generally prefer smaller phones. The X is significantly heavier than the 8. You truly don’t notice it, unless you use it on a daily basis and then suddenly pick up the 8.

I like phone that fit in my pocket with ease and don’t make it bulky. The X, despite not being that much bigger, does carry significantly bigger, if that makes sense. When I put the 8 in my front jeans pocket, you really can’t see it at all. Not the case with the X. It’s definitely more noticeable.

I like the more nimble 8. Maybe I’m just crazy. Can’t quite put a finger on it lol

Why did you dump the Note?

I caved and ordered an X

I caved and am picking up an X today and will give my son my 8+. I hope I don’t have problems with FaceID.

Im thinking about switching to a regular 8 for many of the same reasons others did, sometimes face ID hesitates when Im in a hurry and prefer touch IDs instant on. The size, yeah the display is slightly bigger and nicer than the 8 but for me I think the regular size 8 is easier for me to do things one handed than with the x. The price, I just do not feel the jump in price is worth it, actually Im still on the fence about it.

I only really use my phone to make calls, text, cruise the net some, tether to my laptop, listen to music and take lots of pics...I do not play games anymore on the phone because the screen size is too small

I tried an 8 this past weekend and the screen was just not good enough for me compared to the X. It was nice having Touch ID again, though. It works so well. I just decided to disable Face ID for unlocking purposes and so far so good.

Obviously you know the consequences for having your security disabled, but I think Face ID works so well for me, that I don’t even think about it when using it.

I was using an 8 and recently switched back again to the screen. So hard to ignore the screen quality on the X. So crisp and bright!

I have run with it off for unlock for months now, much better phone without it. Actually stopped me from selling it for a 8/8 plus.
The important apps i use have their own FID security, the rest i couldn't care less about.

I dont have the X but played with one for about 20 minutes in store few months back and i appreciate the beautiful display, superior camera and smooth like butter performance, The form factor of the X/8 is excellent and much easier to handle and deal with.

I genuinely don't notice any difference between the 2 screen technologies on the 8 and X. They both look great to me.

Yeah, but they're not though, are they. Not "very".

I didn't notice any difference. Not enough to pay another £300 for something that's also heavier and has a clunky logging in system.

That member was referring to the X resolution. If You specifically compare the LCD display and OLED display from the X side by side, there are certain differences with color, saturation, and everything has more Vibrancy to it with the OLED display.

Well, I never got the X. I just went ahead and upgraded to the 8+ from my 7+ so I’d have the latest I could in case I don’t like what comes out this fall.

I just didn’t love the look of the X, was used to the size of the 8+ and I like it, and wasn’t really fond of the Face ID idea.

I’m gonna see what the fall holds, but if I’m not a fan, it’ll be the first year I’ll skip upgrading since the 3G.

So funny I stumbled on this post. I have both the X and 8. I was using the X as my daily driver and 8 as a spare. I downloaded IOS 12 beta on all of my devices (yes, I know that is risky, but I’m willing to take that risk). Normally most betas are fine but in this case, 12 has wrecked havoc with my keyboard on my X. Slow, glitchy, the cursor doesn’t work when you press the keyboard, and when you backspace it doesnt’ do it continuously. It was driving me to distraction. No one else seemed to have this issue, but I took the risk and I’ll take the consequences.

Strange part is that it works perfectly fine on on my 8. Keyboard, apps, etc. Don’t know how the battery will hold up, but I’m usually near a charger anyway. Switched sims and am now using my as my daily driver. Forgotten how light it is and how much I really did like the Touch ID. The only thing I will miss are the new animoji’s but that is really a first world problem. I may go back to the X when my issues with the keyboard are sorted, but I don’t think it will be particularly hard to use my 8 on a daily basis.
