Thank you for supplying numbers to facilitate discussion.

Could you let me know the source as I look through the Apple website and couldn't locate them myself, hence my initial response.

I'd like to know where I missed them, so that I could better look in the future and supply this data on my own.

Have a Monday.
It’s not in one place. I googled earlier models after checking they haven’t changed since the 2019 and early 2020 release.

“The Air’s 4.8 x 3.2-inch Trackpad”

“this touchpad is positively huge at 5.3 x 3.3 inches”

? I know, that’s was a bit hyperbolic, but I can’t get past how the 8/7 < 8/8. I mean, it’s got a disabled core because it’s not good enough. ??‍♂️ IMO, 8/7 is like ‘you were soooooo close!’
Going from 7 cores to 8 is a 14.2% increase. That is more than double the performance jump of recent Intel CPU generations. :p It’s plenty noticeable if you’re doing computation that can utilize the GPU as well as video editing can.

Interesting, that was the road I was heading down but gave up as it's 03.25 here.

MacOS is still MacOS. It's not iOS. Things are allowed to run in the background and use resources. The CPU architecture doesn't change the way RAM is utilized. You're not going to magically get the benefits of 16GB of RAM with 8GB just because it's not x86. There also seems to be some misunderstanding about what the unified memory architecture does and how it works which may be where some of these outrageous claims are coming from.
Everything you said is absolutely right! RAM is still utilized the same. It's used the same way in the mobile devices too. What I was trying to say is that 8GB of RAM in an Intel Mac uses more vs the M1. RAM will go further in the M1

This hasn't been brought up but I frequently use the speakers on my MBP 2020 i7 4port when editing videos. Sadly the 2020 MBA M1 still has the same anemic speakers as the Intel version. Before you say a win for the MBP M1, but the M1 MBP looks to have the same speakers as the 2 port 2020 Intel MBP 13 which barely sounded better than the 2020 MBA that I demoed earlier in the year. My 2020 MBP 4 port definitely has much better speakers with a fuller sound.

interesting video and results. Looks like I will need 16 after all. Was hoping to make do with 8, but I have a Red camera and the export difference was huge.
One thing I’m always missing in most reviews are how actual editing works. It’s always only on export. What interest me most is how the editing experience is

Just to update my own thread. I had no loss of concern with choosing the Air over the MBP. BUT, I did lose some major confidence about my 8GB RAM purchase after seeing the second wave of RAM videos go up yesterday. So I did cancel the AIR I was going to pick up today, and refreshed store stock for 24 hours and was lucky to find a 16GB / 1TB AIR that I snatched up quickly. I would have honestly rather saved the $200 and just gotten the 512 because I edit videos from external drives, but I didn’t want to wait and I am sure 1TB will come in handy eventually. Happy computing everyone!
