The 6s feels like an entirely new phone, and I can't put my finger on why; especially with the 12.1 beta. My 5s also feels smoother going from one thing to another.

Props to apple for this good of an update. Oh and safari is snappier (I kid, I kid).

I normally don't start or post threads like this. I upgraded first thing this morning and all I can say is, "what's the difference?" Other than Siri shortcuts, which I can see becoming both useful and popular, I don't see anything useful, or amazing in the update, maybe it's just me. The only difference I notice is the grouped notifications, which I don't really think is better (two clicks to see everything you want instead of one). I would have preferred a button that just gets rid of them all at once, like on the watch.
I must be the 1 in a million to have stayed on iOS 11

Liking the DND feature that hides notifications. I like the grouped notifications too. I’m of the opinion that it’s bland but only because visually it’s the same old thing lol

Shame because I plan to have a go with android next year and it would have been good to have a redesign before I do! On the plus side I’ll be back to iOS on the next upgrade I bet so maybe I’ll have a redesigned and completely new iOS to come home to !

Overall though itchy feet aside I do think they have done a great job with iOS 12. Very slick, very smooth and breathes new life into older devices. There’s no way I could go out and buy the latest iPhone on day 1 so it means a lot to know Apple are thinking of ALL of their customers.

Better performance. Better performance. Oh. And CarPlay now has Google Maps and soon Waze. What’s not to love!

iOS 12 was originally planned with more features and a redesign of the homescreen. But after the ios 11 debacle and all those things like the battery disaster forced them to focus on fixing ios 11. and thats what you get with ios 12. ios 12 = ios 11 as it should be, next year we get something bigger I think.

But its disappointing that apple still doesnt use/redesign the installed stock apps for the new iphone x screen. A dark mode with no real redesign of the apps would be a good start. I hate what they have done with the extra space that the x provides. Its just a bigger iphone 8 which is a iphone 7 which is a 6s which is a 6. so yeah. I get my xs on friday and I‘m already disappointed that I cant do new things or see the stock apps better used by the display. I will just get a nicer display thats all.

There was a redesign planned for iOS 12?

And that’s why I see no point in getting a new iPhone. There is literally nothing new. At the end of the day you end up going back to the same apps anyway. I don’t care about them opening 0.002 seconds faster.

iPhone X doesn’t even have a dark UI for its OLED. Max has no pen support and everything is pretty much just zoomed out. Boring

People still buy new cars even though the new car doesn’t do anything new from the old car, like fly.

It was rumored. Doesn't mean it's true. I think 13 is more likely for a bigger redesign. There were 6 versions with more-or-less the original design, and now that 12 is out there have been 6 with the iOS 7-style design.

I don't really want them to make any drastic changes though. Everything works fine, is easy to use, and looks good (in my opinion of course). Don't fix what isn't broken. Sure, keep making small improvements each time. But why take a huge jump when things are going well as they are?

Nope, not the only one. Hype work off already.......

I would be concerned a redesign would cause issues that would basically cause similar issues with iOS 11. Like you said, if it isn’t broken, no need to change it. At this point, I’m finally satisfied with iOS. I just wish they’d take advantage of the damn OLED screen! Lol. I think the icons are too big and wouldn’t mind having the option to adjust them. Little changes like what I mentioned would be welcomed.

Well, it sounds more like some were perhaps hoping for something like a redesign, as some hope for this or that with pretty much any/every version, and in posting about those hopes it sounds like that sometimes starts being treated as rumor, even though it's not really even that.

Nah, there was a big article on 9to5mac about ios 12 was originally planned with a redesign of the homescreen and other long-asked features. Not a complete redesign of the entire os, just the homescreen.

Heres the article:
https://9to5mac.com/2018/01/30/ios-12-apple-features-performance-reliability/

Edit: look at the date of the article and how ios 12 turns out. Those „rumors“ in the article are 100% true if you look at ios 12 now
