Well here are some quotes that were written by "him" when he was selling cars. They have spelling/grammar errors so it's likely he wrote it. I've only been skimming the thread so you guys can compare it to how he wrote in emails and figure out if it's the same guy or not.

When he's in a rush he uses ".." instead of the usual "..." that other people use. So that's a dead giveaway of his writing style. Also puts extra spaces before and between commas and exclamation marks.

"with only 9,900 miles!! this car is in excellent conditions.. Save gas with the 2.4 liter ecotec.. onstar ,cruise control ,all power..awesome !! gas is still expensive..get a car that gives you more 30mpg !!"

Loves to abuse capital letters and then fails to use them in the correct places, hah.

"Online Bidders are entering into a legal and binding contract to purchase the vehicle described above. If you do not intend to purchase this item, DO NOT BID! otherwise will be reported"

"Unqualified Bidding, Deadbeat Bidders, Auction Interference, Shill Bidding, or any form of harassment can be subject to legal prosecution. "

Knows what "lawyer speak" should sound like, so he does understand some nuances of the english language and isn't completely new to the language, but frequently uses the wrong words when trying to sound professional:

"IF YOU HAVE ONLY NEGATIVE FEEDBACK OR BID RETRACTIONS, DO NOT BID ON OUR ITEMS UNLESS YOU EMAIL US WITH A CREDITABLE RESPONSE"

I've been watching too much CSI I think.

I'd bet anything there's a freeze on his account right now awaiting feedback.. My paypal account is 7 years old and they froze me for 4k worth of macbook pros.

Yup, I sold my BlackBook via eBay and it turned out to be a local sale. I drove the total distance of about 9 miles and placed the box in his hands, after he gave feedback and the money cleared PayPal, and that was a total of 5 business days after the he made payment via PayPal or 8 days after the close of the auction, that I set as a 3-day auction. Total of $1350 held by PayPal for 8 days...

I alerted the SCAM feedback at eBay of a potential problem, my guess is they will impound ALL the payments, pending receipt of product, and verification they are not either stolen, or illegally obtained.

Dude u don't need to do that yet, give this guy some time. So far nothing he has said has been false, his listing does state 3 business days before item is shipped. He's also very very traceable as many have seen. If this guy ever searches his own name he'll see a board full of people analyzing his english, email address, locations etc.. If he were selling these macbook air's at a higher price none of this would be an issue. Just give it some time before ebay blocks his account and cancels all our bids when they could in fact be legitimate. Everyone will get their money back if this guy is a scammer.

BTW scammers don't usually use an email address that contains their last name, is linked to his previous place of employment and is obviously the same address he uses on selling all types of stuff.

you're being premature. seller is innocent until proven guilty.

trust me, if he is a scam artist all kinds of bad karma will rain down on him. 50 angry buyers will know his name, phone number, and address.

did you even buy one of them?

Does it take only ONE complaint to put a stop to the process? Or will it take about TEN complaints to initiate eBay's fraud squad?

eBay won't do anything until the terms of the contract (listing) is broken. He stated 3 days until shipment so they will do nothing until then. However they may freeze his account and/or suspend the bids to investigate if the property is stolen, which will delay shipments for everyone. I say have patience, no not until tmr, but at least thursday...

My last sale of my classic MBP 2.5GHz 250GB, was via CL and the payment was cash and the buyer was able to meet at the UC Berkeley campus next to the police station. I've sworn "no more eBay after my BlackBook incident, b/c eBay/PayPal held my money for over a week," and the buyer was the nicest guy I'd ever met on eBay. :(

In this day and age of "I paid for it and I want it NOW!" it's probably really hard to sit on your hands, and put on the facade that everything is OK. I can only wish all of you the best at this point.

i am very impressed that in about 5 days, this thread is now among the 50 most-viewed macbook air topics ever.

Well it's either this or arguing about horizontal lines, adobe flash, and core shutdowns.

At least this has suspense and ironically less drama than our usual threads.

I wish there was somebody that lived nearby, who can call him and say i'll stop by to pick one up tomorrow. that would put an end to this right away. My cousin lives down there but he is currently away on business in L.A. or I would have told him to do it. and if its true ship it to me :p

I can't help but follow this thread now that several people have purchased from this guy on Ebay. I do hope you all just got a great deal but nothing about the ad on Ebay said "legit" to me. The fact it's 30 or 40 units and selling for what they were isn't just some ex employee that decided to sell them at some crazy cheap price.

I look forward to seeing some happy posts about the shiney new and legit MB's or the tears and screams of people that just got scam'd and are now trying to get their money back lol... either way should be good fun!

The problem is that since the word has gotten out that you can get your money back from auctions what's to prevent buyers from getting refunds from legit auctions?

I've been hearing more and more of sellers getting ripped off now (it's like it has reversed). Before it was the buyers now it's the sellers.

I sell a lot of big ticket items so this type of thread is very worry-some.

Berfore if you had half a brain you could use Ebay safely both buying and selling and it was a great, great marketplace. But this is all new.

I hear ya, and I stopped using Ebay and Paypal several years ago when they decided to be judge and jury without even reading 15+ emails to prove the buyer did in fact recieve the item I sold them, and refunded him his 500 bucks and put my paypal acct at a -500. I told Paypal to go F#@$ themselves and have never used since.

They called for 5 or 6 months and I had some great phone conversations with various collection agencies. In then end they were stupid enough to believe I changed my phone number and I gave them some bogus number and moved on. I won't deal with a company that won't even listen to it's sellers and this thread just goes to prove it's all about scammers anymore. There isn't any true protection from online fraud, it's all a roll of the dice with Ebay/Paypal.

People think it's so safe and just like this guy, saying he has legit address, and phone number etc.. ya like a scammer would be to stupid to set this all up so you feel "safe" ?? Oh ya, of course you can buy a 1800 MBA for 1k, he must have just gotten a good deal to buy in bulk *wink, wink*. If it was legit there would be more resellers offering them at this price. My guess is these will turn out stolen, refurbs, older MBAs or a complete scam where he ships you a box of rocks.

The scammers are and will always be one step ahead of "security" measures, just they way it is.

eBay and PayPal make money off the sale of your MBAir; they get you coming and going. eBay takes money for listing fees, and final sale fees; while PayPal gets the 3% transaction fees as well. I sold a Porsche 911, and the fees were $1,610 to eBay & PayPal, so I can only imagine the pain on a smaller scale for a MBAir. eBay/PayPal and Security is the new poster child for "oxymoron"...

We need more detective work and new links to stuff this Ruben has sold before so we can come up with a complete psychological profile of the man before this thread ends.

Do you all realize how much information is being given out in this thread for future or current scammers? It's a 'how to scam MAC buyers' at this point and a guide for shady buyers to renege on legit deals.
