I don't think there are any online megastores that compare to Amazon but I also don't believe limiting my shopping to a single store. As far as pricing, I believe you can get better deals than Amazon in most cases if you shop around (don't limit yourself to a single source).

As an example, I just got a Roku Express Plus for streaming to an older TV.
Amazon wanted $38.88 with free shipping (Note: Even if you don't have Amazon Prime, it ships free standard shipping).
The best deal was BrandsMart USA ($24.88 + $4.99 (7 day shipping)).
I ended up getting it at Walmart for $35.00 and free 2 day shipping. Since I live near a Walmart, I just stopped there while passing by and picked it up (i.e. no waiting on shipping at all).

Even though I'll pay more, I generally do my Christmas shopping at Amazon (local stores / traffic is crazy around Christmas). The rest of the year, I generally shop elsewhere.

If most of your Amazon shipping is limited to a couple months a year, a monthly Amazon Prim subscription just for those months might make more sense.

If only prime went down to 60/70 dollars it would be a deal.

Amazon has one store called Amazon Go. There are no cashiers, no cash registers, and they do not accept any form of payment. Your Amazon account is charged.

Right, the first step toward a cashless society! You have to know that Walmart is close to instituting this soon. Except forget the smartphone. We'll be RFID chipped in our hands...the mark of the beast!

Walmart, Target, Home Depot, McDonalds, Kroger, and many other places now have self service kiosks for check out. We have ATM's to get money or deposit money. Using McDonald's kiosk for the first few times was a bit of an adjustment but I love it. Subway, my favorite fast food restaurant has an app. I can order my lunch just as I want it. Then I swoop in, get handed my bag and out without ever stopping.

I also like the McDonald's kiosk and like the apps where I preorder my food.

What I don't like and refuse to use are the self service registers in stores.

I didn't like them, at first. After all, I am not being paid to be my own cashier but over time, I've grown to love them. Quick and easy, and I'm on my way.

Yeah, no buying/no selling without the “mark of the beast” system...coming soon to a planet near you.

Amazon has physical stores!??

Yes, I was planning on paying a homeless person (in Cash and Vodka) to go in an buy a self help book for cash, then cry foul when they won't accept cash - then watch the PC police action... But then I realized Amazon has probably trained retail employees to just give the book to people in this situation.

So.... everything in an Amazon Brick and Mortar store is probably free if you dress up as a homeless person. Trick or Treat?

I'm not getting paid to run my purchases through self checkout and I believe it's taking jobs away from people.
That ship has sailed. I worked for a major global consumer products company and RFID tags are being embedded in all packaging to allow for automatic checkout when you drive your cart through a scanner doorway, and automatically charges your credit card. Checkout Cashiers are a thing of the past, like horse drawn buggies vs. cars. Face it, physical retail stores will only compete with online purchases if they can control cost to match that online purchase experience. The job now is maintenance for these retail systems.

The homeless person could only get in, if they have a smartphone with the Amazon Go app, and are an Amazon member in good standing with a credit card on file.

There is no checkout. After you leave the store it charges your Amazon account.

The Amazon Go store has managed to pull this off without the use of RFID tags. The shelves have weight sensors and there are a bazillion cameras. The system tracks you from the time you enter until you leave. People have tried to trick it.

You’re right, you’re not getting paid, but since they’re not paying a checker, it allows them to keep their prices low.

Also the person attending them is getting paid. In most cases, it’s just one checker from a regular lane moved to the self checkout ones. Same amount of checkers, but able to process the customers 3-4 times faster.

Yes, they have. But soon any store will have RFID tagged items. Tags that can be sensed by roving marketing Vans traveling through neighborhoods to survey what you have in your house. And even how much you have. Got too many boxes of ammo and they might call the police! The technical lease is shoved far up our butts already!!

Then I guess you could not use this for gift purchasing?

I don't review many items on Amazon. I do look at the reviews, however, many are complete crap.
Was this post supposed to be humorous? One of my big gripes about Amazon Answers is that people respond to the question even though they don't have the answer. Q: "What are the measurements?" A:"I don't know, I'll let you know when I get home." "I think it's about 6x8x2. "I'm not sure. I didn't like it so I sent it back." Argh!!! It's like people think they are the only one Amazon sent the email to.

The guy didn't ask if you review items. He didn't ask if you looked at reviews. He asked for responses specific to being a banned reviewer.

Sorry to pick on you, but I am seriously concerned with American education.

Adrian- How many likes am I alotted? I give them all to your post. I now put "Please only answer if you actually know the answer" at the end of any question, and I will respond to any answer (to my question, although I am tempted to go rogue like I did here) that doesn't answer the question asked, asking why they wasted both theirs and my time and let them know they are not the only person Amazon sent the email to...

It does seem Amazon are taking more care over the reviews.

I live in Switzerland and usually use Amazon.de to have stuff shipped here. Reviews I submitted up until about a year ago have all been published, but since then they've all been rejected. I write the reviews in English on the .de site which is in German. I guess they are now using some local language scaninng software which rejects all mine, or they simply reject ones not in the "correct" language. I can understand that. I certainly wasn't the only person writing English (or occasionally French or Italian) reviews on the German site but they've all now stopped.

Sure, I could go to the .co.uk site, find the item and review it there but (a) I can't be bothered, (b) not all products are the same or priced the same and (c) it would also not show as a "verified purchase". But it's mainly (a).

:)While I'm here, don't you just love the way some people think that the product questions are emailed only to them? :D

Q: Does the clock come with batteries?
A: I don't know, I've not opened it yet
