Now we need to see if Bristol Ridge has improved significantly with the latest drivers.

Avoid the new driver completely. It's incompatible with Afterburner and cuts mining performance by almost half on some systems.

Even worse it took 5 hours to install. What a joke.

That little RX 580 looks great, but being from Sonnet it's probably going to be too expensive.

Also, does it provide mobile-level performance?

I read them already. I consider the first link to be a PR stunt by an AIB partner to get lots of pre-orders. Mining is so difficult now and almost impossible to make money from if you are starting or upgrading now.

To put it into context, from next month 200 MHs will only make about 1 Ether a month. By October that much megahashing will make about a quarter Ether. By December, its vapour.

So it's impossible for anyone to profit after the hardware and electric costs.

The people who mined for the last two years had a good ride. The future is in Proof of Stake. Vitalik Buterin says the Ethereum network should realistically see 5% interest a year for people who hold Ether, otherwise it's just volatile and the public will never use crypto.

It would seem that the default power limit allows the RX 460 to pull at least 100W from the PCIe slot if it is overclocked.

I would say it is not taking into account when the card has no auxiliary power.

At what level above 75W does a low end motherboard usually burn?

It seems that high PCIe slot power peaks above 75W are quite usual:

Is this an issue in a 5.1 macpro, I have a gigabyte rx480 8gb on order, with 6 pin.
(Who knows when it will arrive, seriously getting p....d off with every card being on pre-order).

No overclocking, straight out the box, no high end gaming.

Alternatively are there any rx cards which definitely don't draw too much power.

This is by far the best and most compatible card for the cMP right now as it is the exact same model used in Apple's eGPU dev kit. And it's totally safe power wise.

I did have an rx580 on pre-order and got fed up waiting, so cancelled it.
Also I struggled to find a dual 6 pin to 8 pin cable from a reputable company, all where cheapos from china.
I didn't like the thought of a £5 cable powering the card, so I pre-ordered an rx480 6 pin instead.

There is nothing wrong with these cheap cables from China. Most of us here use them without issue.
In fact, the one linked below is of very high quality. I use it in both my cMPs.
