Mine is the same.

Why all of the obessive compulsive behavior about this stuff. Just get AppleCare and make it Apple's problem for the next 3 years. Keep your backup running and enjoy your iMac.
Many of you should unload your 3rd party fan software right now. It's taking minutes off your life every time you look at it.![]()
Please, read the white paper...
On a side there are some of the most skilled engineers of the planet, on the other some forum users that hardly are capable to read a post, a white paper or a 2 axis graph.
Very hard dilemma isn't it ?
Don't take this personal but was already spent too much time on this thing, I have Apple care and I the machine is perfectly working, i truly don't give a.... about the temps, you should do the same.
You said it yourself, 105C is too hot. A large number of people are hitting this temperature, or even higher. White paper or no white paper, the problem is very real for said units.
BECAUSE:
1) Some of us would like to have the features we pay extra for (for example extra 250 euros/dollars/pounds for better Graphics card m295X that supposed to give better performance than the default m290X, which is now questionable with this Throttling-gate.)
2) Also some of us would like to keep this computer longer than 3 years (which is the maximum coverage Apple care takes). Also paying 2500-3500 euros/dollars/pounds for the machine should be sufficient even withouth paying extra for Apple care that sake that "this will propably burn out within less than 3 years" doesn't seem very reasonable - from the point of the ordinary consumer, withouth any Apple-fan glasses on.
On another note, according to iStat Menus, the 295X is using a LOT of memory. Is this normal?
Wow, that was an interesting read ! However, since I'm a photographer that doesn't game, I'll simply get the maxed out rImac minus the furnace R295X.![]()
I don't think that is a good idea. The 290X will drive any sane person crazy. Believe me, I'm not a gamer either. For photography, unless lots of video processing is part of the equation, never mind the i7. It's the 295X that you will need for a display of this caliber.
Incidentally, my machine doesn't heat up at all and the fan is constant at 1200rpm. Completely silent most of the time.
I consider myself sane - and my 290 hasn't driven me crazy. It works just fine. I do no video editing or photo editing and I play no games. Mostly browsing, word processing, and audio production. It's perfect for what I want and need.
The M290X should be able 4K video playback hands down, even the old M6770 512MB was able to do it ! With real time video editing @4K the things are different but I think the M290X could do the job as well...
I don't do any video editing. For my purposes, I'll never use the 295X at it's full potential. I would have gone with it but the fact it's hotter than it should at idle is a big turn off for me. The 290X is more than adequate...
----------
Do you watch 4K video ? If so, how did it perform ? Thanks.
Not as a habit - but I just downloaded a clip and put it on repeat. It played just fine. No fans or heated GPU.
Just a quick 2 cents, but one thing I am getting which I'm surprised more people aren't getting annoyed about is the attitude of
"With Applecare you are guaranteed for 3 years if anything will ever happen to the iMac, If there will be an issue with the GPU failing, Apple will adjust to fix the issue."
--Applecare is an additional £139.Does no one else think that there's something wrong with paying them MORE money to cover yourself against something They miscalculated to start with? This stuff shouldn't be even up for debate, it should be a unanimous call to Apple with a gigantic 'how dare you' to anyone who suggests you should pay more to cover for their screw ups- the computer was already thousands.
Also, there shouldn't be a debate about what we're using it for. Apple happily claim is a beautiful screen for gaming etc. So all you shut up with your 'if you want to game get a PC' nonsense. We already know that, it's a tired, dull and unhelpful thing to say. The point is, we should be able to play with our £2200+ toys in any way we want without worrying about stupid sh#t like this that Apple is too sneaky to do anything about.
It depends what country you're from. You would probably be covered in most European countries due to what I understand is much stronger consumer law than the US.

Faith in Apple can be bad for the wallet. Apple only protect people outside of Applecare if they've had to make an official statement. Other than that, even getting them to admit they've HEARD of the issue is difficult.
This is the first GPU me and quite a few others have seen that goes to 106degrees within minutes of a game being open and then stays there. With the fan at maximum. It's a throttling, maximum temperature and maximum fan... Seems odd.
As for me being paranoid about it failing before the fact- let's say Audi bring out a new shiny car, you love it and are going to buy it. 3 friends who have worked as e engineers for years each tell you the brakes will fail much quicker than normal because Auto took a shortcut to get the car on Tue market quicker. Would you tell them that 'it hasn't happened yet so stop being paranoid'?
Extreme example but you get my drift. Yes, it's a new model, but there are people here who have seen hundreds of new models and can easily extrapolate to' know' what to expect...
