Displaymate's findings...not so much. Not among other people in the field, or on the street with one's own eyes.

we'll have to agree to disagree as Displaymate is one of the leading and reputable sources in the world of photography and display testing. they've been around for nearly as long as I've been involved in photography and the credibility of their president goes deep into broadcasting from before that. they are not a fly-by-night company that simply publishes opinions.

Geez, the amount of 'my c$%& is bigger than yours' going on in this thread is absurd. Why the hell does anyone care what another blogger/expert/etc says about one display vs. another? Here's a thought, thinking about a device, then go look at the display in various conditions and settings and if you like it, buy it.

You don't have to be a display expert to tell that the Note 4's display is fantastic. And you know what, the iPhone 6/6+ is pretty damn good as well. But if you like what you have, you gives a flying **** if someone else said another phone's display is better. Does it make your device function any worse? Of course not. Some here apparently need their egos stroked is all.

If you like the most accurate color representation set it to basic mode. If you like any other color mode set it to one of the other four. That's call CHOICE. You dont need to "constantly micro-manage" since you only need to choose once which mode is best for you -- unless maybe you are one of those wishy washy person. :p

On iphone you are stuck with one mode - no choice - take it or leave it - and from displaymate test color is pretty inaccurate.

Stop being so damn dramatic already. The Note 4 display is really good, we all get it. But guess who Displaymate said has the very next best display? ;) I guess everybody who hasn't been using a phone that's been out for a month just has utter crap.

Between the Samsung banner and the club to bash anything Apple that you carry, your arms and shoulders must be exhausted.

I'm going to calibrate my iMac and Macbook Pro displays with a color calibration device for color accuracy. Is there a way to do this with a Note4 or any mobile device?

The facts are hard for some people to grasp in this thread. Displaymate's findings have not been disputed by the industry......

You have to calibrate them because they're inaccurate out of the box. With Surface Pro 3 and Note 4 you don't have to.

We've already been through that. Apparently he thinks Displaymate fabricated their test results, yet offers no proof that a company of the highest caliber would fake a test result, or even why. Also apparently he knows "other people in the field" although who this might be is not readily apparent. I'm just rolling with it as I kinda feel bad for the guy, defending his point so vehemently with such incredibly flimsy evidence just to be right on an internet forum with a bunch of strangers.

Apparently "one's own eyes" trumps an elite display calibration company with an incredibly well resumed owner.

Everybody should just be happy and content with what they have and there is no need to fight over it. Geez in that csse why are you in here? Close down the forum because everyone is super duper happy and be quiet about it. If you don't want to see then dont see. You don't response to my post but use personal attack. That's pretty low.

No the gs4 was not that great. DisplayMate gave the gs5 best screen it tested before the note 4

Your logic is incongruent. The S5 was the best screen before newer screens were tested which are better. The Note 4 is the best AMOLED screen and the iPhone 6+ is the best LCD screen you can't then obfuscate and still claim the S5 is the second best screen.

It doesn't work like that. Even if you want it to.

I think you guys are considerably more concerned about the Note 4 having the best display than the average consumer. Having a good display is important, but I think most people are satisfied with the display on the Note 4, GS5, M8 or iPhone regardless of where they are ranked by DisplayMate.

^^ I think we're all splitting hairs when it comes to screen quality of any phone made within the last 1-2 years. Given my passion for photography, I'm vary sensitive and aware of accuracy, etc. but in the end, this is a phone and no on is going to look at a selfish or a family photo and comment on a slightly over saturated red or a washed out black.

I definitely agree that we are splitting hairs. A good screen is important, but there's more to picking a phone than the screen quality.

The Note 4 having the best screen was Displaymate's designation. Then it was reported here. The iphone fans are the ones that have made the biggest deal out of it. I have both an IP6 + and Note 4. I like both phones for different reasons. But the screen on the Note is better INMHO.

It's definitely splitting hairs, but if people didn't argue incessantly about these minute tiny details these forums would literally not exist.

My eyes are bad, so I doubt I could tell a difference. Both are great phones though.

True. It does make for good entertainment.

Yeah so true. Even the s4, s5, Note 2 and 3 screens are at the same level as the 6+. You need very detail analysis to differentiate phone screens since 1 year ago. All of them are so good that we don't need to really look at screen as a factor.

I think one thing stands out from the opinions shared on this thread and that is you wouldn't really be able to tell whether a screen is better than the other unless you have devices side by side. How often is that going to happen? Are people really going to be using their device and dwelling on the fact there is another out there that has been voted better? I don't think so.

Whether you use a Note, S5, LG, iPhone etc, you will likely be happy with the quality of the screen. I can't think of any flagship devices currently on the market that have poor screens or are unfit for purpose.

No they aren't. I've used all of rather those devices except the note 2 and the 6 plus is the best. The note 2 is only 720 p. The only device that I've seen that has a better screen than the 6 plus is the note 4. However all of the flagship devices from 2014 have good displays.
