So much #1. Add in what apps are in use (looking at some of the known hogs like Facebook, WhatsApp) and wifi vs cellular usage, the "I don't use the phone that much" is probably a bit of fib.

When I retired my 2020 SE, it was at 88%, 992 cycles, after three years. Replacement 13 Mini is still at 100% after five months and about 110 cycles. Even with "small" batteries, have had good life. 5W charging primarily and using them as iPods that can make phone calls and a few other things occasionally during the week. And averaging only about 1.4GB/mo of cellular.

Started to feel that way with the X. Felt I "overpaid" for the Mini but had no options for small, basic, and FaceID enabled phone.
Well I found the 11 Pro Max 256MB that I bought in the first month after launch about the limit for what I would pay for a phone. I have been very happy with it, but the battery life has degraded significantly. Other than that I can't fault the phone. Unfortunately Apple has subsequently raised the prices even further.

Edit: spelling.

My wife's iPhone 12 Pro according to coconut shows 87% health at 1099 cycles which is ridiculously wrong. Apple's diagnostic tools put this phone at 80%. We have Apple Care+ for it, so this is a very frustrating situation as the phone's battery has been shot for good half a year, but because the % keeps dropping very slowly, we are forced to deal with lousy battery performance as it ages. Apple should employee some wiggle room and common sense as clearly the battery is worn out after 1099 cycles. the day it drops to 79% we will be making a case to get this replaced under AC+.

Pffft!

I charge mine whenever I feel like it, up to 100% every time! In the meantime, I put a couple of quid away each month, then every 16 months or so, buy a new battery! Much easier then piss-balling about with 20%, 80%, heat, slow chargers etc etc.

I set my charging to 90% now on my iPhone 16 wonder if that’ll help long term.
Now that the iPhone 15 has both health and cycles and some time has elapsed (so as to allow heavy user to put in some cycled), I’ve been checking some online results and the results are all over the place.

Some people go 80-20, or 80-40, or 70-30, or whatever, and they have normal cycle count and health. Some it’s even not that amazing. I’ve seen partial-cycle users be at, say, 92% after 250 cycles. Some people don’t care and have better numbers.

It’s really all over the place. It’s partly luck. It probably helps somewhat, but results definitely aren’t guaranteed.

319/88% since may 2024 15 pro.

I’m planning to get a battery replacement for my iPhone 13 through Apple sometime in the next month. Once it’s done, I’ll share a comparison of the SoT before and after the service.

The battery is currently at 87% bh, but it no longer lasts a full day. While the phone is still perfectly usable, the battery is nearing the end of its life. I often have to rely on my Apple MagSafe battery pack, which, while manageable, is a bit inconvenient.

Cycle count?

An iPhone 8 I now have is at 2230 cycles and 79.9% health according to Coconut. 76% health according to settings. It runs iOS 14, has great battery life, and has been used as a main device from Feb 2019 up until April 2025.

No charge limits, no bottom limits. Used from 100% to whatever was needed (including 0%). Battery life is still good.

Even more convinced that you just need to use it, with the original battery, on a good iOS version, for years.

I’m using it for music now, it still works well.

Cycle count?
I sadly don’t have that information because I haven’t been using any 3rd party monitoring software. I don’t care about my BH and will replace the battery as and when it is required to do so. I will do a before/after comparison of a day of use from 100% to 5% with the old and new battery on iOS 18.
