Because Android doesn't have native support for IR hardware..?

Third-party developers can make anything happen. I honestly bet that HTC will put out apk's for people with HTC One's to use certain things like the TV app.

HTC said they're working on allowing early adopters to swap to stock if they prefer it.

Would be nice if Google included the on screen button especially on the HTC one as that button placement is very awkward.

That sounds like a terrible idea. Having on screen buttons as well as physical buttons would be a waste of screen real estate.

Surely its not that 'difficult' to get used to the button layout. I got used to it in about 30 minutes.

Well it's the reason i didn't buy the phone those buttons would drove me crazy OCD!

I've owned a droid maxx with on screen buttons and it didn't make the screen feel any smaller as you can hide the buttons if you want, listen pure android was built with on screen buttons in mind.
