To tell you the truth, I beginning to believe Android is the future. If, if Apple doesn't pull there hand out of their butt. What do guys think? Agree or disagree? Do you think you will jump ship if the iPhone 5 isn't 'good' enough for you?

It is certainly getting better - JellyBean rocks, but the same problem of fragmentation. I'm not ready to jump ship just yet unless it gets a lot better than iOS - not just a marginal improvement.
Apple has more of a challenge now and must continue to innovate. Competition is a good thing!

I think competition is what drives future products. If this were not so, there would not be so many different auto manufacturers.
Interesting, I'm sure I will probably jump ship. Rather then having a 7" tablet and a classic Apple 3.5", just have a 4.65". Saves money and works for me.

Well overall the ship is a nice one to jump over to.
I was a pretty avid iPhone fangurl, and I was wondering if an Android phone would prove to be what the other rampant fanboys claim to hate and guess what?
It isn't.
Fragmentation? Not applicable to my useage. Not all apps are the same or are created equal sure.
Smoothness/touchwiz: VERY smooth, no obvious lags. No more so than my new iPad. Fluid, fast, responsive. Has some really nice features like staying on using sensors, etc.
Handset design. Either you like it or you don't. Since I put a Barely There case by CaseMate, I am loving the design. Doesn't offer much protection but it looks really slick and makes me happy.
I am learning daily (due to being a forum addict) things that can be done with this device.
Nothing to make me regret the change or instilling a desire to go running to the new upcoming iP5.

I don't think it's all doom and gloom so to say.
I'm quite happy to have made the switch on my phone but still prefer my iPad over anything else out there and believe me I have been looking.
Apple and iOS will be just fine and there will be switchers in both camps and when win8 comes out it will be divided into 3 before too long.
iOS will be okay and is a very viable option for many people, especially for the ones that don't like to tinker with their phones much.

Apple has a very recognisable brand name. I do not see it changing any time soon. The smartphone market is still growing with a large number of new customers every day. I still see iOS appealing to these new customers because iOS provides simplicity as well as a recognisable brand in Apple. My wife and her parents wanted an iPhone mostly because of brand name. They knew nothing about smartphones before buying and they are happy with its simplicity.
Android offers a lot more flexibility and variety in handsets, and I mean a lot. I think that as people get more familiar with smartphones and its capabilities. Some people will be wanting something more than the singular offering that Apple has or wants more capability than iOS provides. For what my wife uses her phone for, the capabilities of Android are not of great value to her, but the variety of handsets is. I got her an Android phone because she only needed a low end phone.
My wife did ended up getting an iPhone for free which is why she uses one now. If she had to shell out money to buy one, she would not have bothered paying such a premium for a device that she pretty much just uses for phone calls and texting and Facebook as of late.

not only auto manufacturers....everything in life. It is all based upon something prior and improved. Phones itself, computers, air-planes and I see from your sig you like music, that too! how many remakes have we come across?....that is life.
I have an iPad and a Droid phone. I like each os for different reasons (the pricetag for the phone and service of the droid phone are the biggest bonuses to me). Mail sucks a little in droid, and games (as if I need that on my phone) aren't very good, but beyond that it's really just fine for a smartphone os...
Yeah games aren't quite on par with iOS yet but I believe that bridge is closing. Gameloft is in the process of releasing their first unreal engine game for Android and with the addition of emulators and onlive gaming, there's quite the assortment to choose from
What's so bad about repetitious threads? There is only so much you can talk about in the tech world, hell any topic. Subjects are discussed over and over anywhere, not just here.
Sorry, if i came as tongue sharp here but it is just so irritating to read these complaints. Yes, yes i know "You don't have to read my gripes so scram" but i see this so often. Some repetition is good but not all, this is not the good kind in my humble opinion.

And yet you continually troll in this part of the forum, providing nothing but constant negative posts. Have you provided one single helpful post since you decided to start posting in here?
If you want to post "yea Apple. Ra ra pom pom shake for Apple" posts, you have every other part of the forum to do so. Instead, you do nothing but try and start arguments or ridicule people. One can only hope you get banned or move on.
I have said positive things about Android, Windows phone, and Windows 8, you're just looking at me cockeyed. If another "Do you like the iPhone 5 design" thread emerged, I would complain of the repetition there as well. Carry on, sir.
Not joining in to defend or attack anyone here, but I do want to make one point.
It seems like every time somebody mentions Android in a positive light, they have to also mention iOS or Apple as a whole in a negative light. Can't Android be good without iOS being bad? It's always something like, "Jelly Bean is so great! iOS 6 is so stale and boring..." or "I love everything my Android phone can do! I don't know why people still like iToys". There's just a general bad attitude around here towards Apple, and it's mind boggling to me that people would spend so much time on a website dedicated to Apple when they clearly aren't happy with the company's ideology, actions, direction, and fanbase. It's almost like going camping and complaining about all the bugs. Of course people are going to be defending Apple here! MacRumors is a popular place for Apple fans, and this forum is a small part of the MacRumors community. That is NO excuse for a lack of civility, which I know takes place on both sides.
I just want to talk about technology here- and on this specific forum, all brands are fair game for discussion. I love that. But I feel like this forum can be more of an Apple-protest zone than a technology forum at times.
Nicely said, but unfortunately with people being on the edgy, sensitive, defensive, argumentative side (this includes me btw) it's impossible to have a discussion without it getting overly biased, insulting and uncivilized.
So the only thing we can do to try and neutralize it is to be being open, sociable and of course anit-expletive which of course you can't do anyway.
There is no singular platform that is the "future" of phones.
There is always room to look at how to compute in a different way. It has absolutely nothing to do with open or closed (for if it did we'd all be using Linux or Unix open source OS)

Really, this is a place of debate. Some people don't like iPhone and some don't like Android. Let them argue. It makes for good competition since we can't have either company slack off.
