I'm on my second yellowed MBP and i just helped my dad set up his 24 incher at work. i was so happy to see OS X in white rather than yellow. man that screen is huge. i've never used anything bigger than a 19" CRT.... wow.

the colors looked pretty good too, but i will probably do a quick calibration.

My screen is flawless. There is a slight fading from side to side, but if I move my head, it goes away, so it's more of a viewing angle. I only notice it when I read posts about bad screens!!

BEST screen and BEST 'puter I've ever owned. Period.

Well, I was kinda thinkin' this might be a good place to find a photo of a non-afflicted screen. But apparently, no one in the Happy Campers Battalion owns a camera.

No, I think you want the "Any 24" owners who can provide photographic evidence of a good screen?" thread. If it doesn't exist you can start it.

I don't think this thread was about proving anything to anyone. It's just a place for those who have had positive experiences with their 24" iMac displays to shout out.

Somewhere along the way the detractors took over.

So, you obviously know -- even better than the original poster -- what this thread is all about? ...how special!

I'm looking to buy my first Apple computer but I'm worried about these recent reports of back lighting problems/yellow tint/uneven colors on the 24" model. I don't mind a slight backlight bleed, since these are LCDs, but I don't want to experiance anything more then that. How are your 24" screens?
Sorry, my mistake, dude -- I must have a bit of a reading comprehension problem, 'cause I somehow failed to interpret: "How are your 24" screens?" as a desperate plea for unanimous touchy-feely re-affirmation of Mother Apple's absolute infallibility.

...BTW, got a camera?

OK, lest this become another inane flamefest I will only point out that my reading comprehension level was sufficient to understand that the title of this thread is "Any 24" owners w/ a good screen?".

There are other threads where those with negative experiences are posting about them. I won't make the ridiculous assumption that they are only doing so to point out "Mother Apple's absolute fallibility".

I find it ironic that you're ridiculing MY reading comprehension skills.

Incidentally I never said my display was "perfect". I said I had no dead pixels and most importantly most definitely do NOT have the "yellowing" defect that others are reporting. I love the glossy screen and it has a very good viewing angle. It is the best display I've ever owned and definitely qualifies in my opinion as a "good display". It is not perfect though. There is slight backlight bleed at the edges when viewing a solid background and I definitely saw improvements when running my own calibration on it. The factory one was terrible for me.

I saw the title of the thread and put in my 2 cents because I do have a 24" iMac with a good screen.

I do alot with photography and Im on my third Imac 24 inch screen as well...My pics on final print look horrible...Im really thinking about taking it back and returning to PC for editing my prints....I have a mac book pro with same coloring issues though...i dont use that for editing pics either...Love the mac platform though and hate to return to windows....

innocent question...

Could it just be the printer?

Could it just be the printer?

I dont think its the printer...Im using Cosco labs for many years now....
Im going to try to calibrate the monitor tonight but heard it doesnt work well...I would like for it to work but dont think it will....Its just my PC never needed any calibration and the colors were a match on...

New iMac, received today. Brilliant screen, no issues with it. I do some photography but mostly work with music.

I come from a MBP and 23" ACD and this iMac 24" screen is much better than my ACD was.

Everything is fine with my 24" iMac screen too
If your 24" iMacs don't have a brightness gradient problem (as shown below), could you please post a screen photo or two?

...thanks,

LK

Minimum brightness, "Solid Gray Medium" & "Solid Aqua Blue" backgrounds.

You did not have time to post some pics from yours since last Sunday? It would be nice if you could just to compare. Thanks.

I suppose I can get one tonight, if I have time. there really is no point though, just imagine a screen without the problems the people with problems have, thats my screen.

Dang I love this computer.

How is this a defect? Maybe it's just normal? I really don't know.

The left side of my screen, at minimum brightness, is brighter than
the right side at maximum brightness.

The left side of my screen is 2.5x brighter than the right side --
as measured with a light meter.

That's three times worse than would be acceptable under any
modern, widely-accepted, international ergonomic standard --
(e.g., ISO 13406-2 or TCO'03).

That's five to ten times worse than typical measurements published
in tests/reviews of many "economy model" stand-alone LCD monitors.

That's a HUGE step backwards from the previous 24" iMac (MA456LL/A).

...OTOH, it does appear to be perfectly 'normal' for 24" ALU iMAcs,

8.0 Ergonomics

Visual ergonomics is an important concern to computer users.
It affects user comfort and performance. Apple designs, tests
and certifies our displays to meet stringent visual ergonomics
(front of screen) criteria.

...or NOT!

Well then

""That's three times worse than would be acceptable under any

That is a horse of a different color. I had no idea there were ISO standards for LCD monitors, outside of safety issues. Perhaps LCD is not ready for prime time professional use; at least not the monitors Apple is using for their iMacs.

But understand, I remain very happy with my ALiMac. But I do understand better now your pain.

Thanks for taking the time to explain... Van

Your screen is jacked, Leon.

It IS not. The backlight is uneven. There's no gradient anything. People are making up words to describe a normal LCD backlight design. I haven't seen or owned an LCD display where the backlight wasn't uneven. My 23" Cinema display was patchy from corner to corner to the center. My 30" Cinema display was lighter on the bottom half and darker on the top half. The larger screens generally have worse backlighting.
Let it go or return the iMac but why post pics to point out the so-called anomaly? Posting pics doesn't help anyone especially if people are already accepting of what they have.
BTW, my iMac's backlight is exactly the same and it's all good for me. I'm not going to call Apple, my machine works great.

I got some unevenness in the corners on the bottom, but I really only notice it when I'm doing stuff like the black screen when loading XP, or loading a game when I see a black screen. But as for the patchyness in the middle mine seems to be fine.

My Samsung 17" LCD I had a year ago was HORRIBLE for uneven backlight. All the laptops I've had in the past and have now have been also. So comparing every display I've ever owned, including pretty expensive (at the time) CRT's, I'll say flat out the iMac 24" is the best screen I've ever owned.

But as for Leon, he either needs to return the iMac, obviously he isn't satisfied, get a replacement, or deal with it cause like Dan said, there is no perfect display, maybe unless you pay insane money for it, but still there is no guarantee.

I do believe Leon's problem is a little worse than I'd imagine the average for this display is though.
