It happened to me on M1 Max MBP today. I guess Apple still didn't fix it along with the memory leak.

Any hardware accessories connected when it happened? Might be multiple trigger points like the memory leak.

Anyone having recurring kernel panics - if you're comfortable with the privacy implications (I am, for what it's worth), make sure to turn on "Share Mac Analytics" in System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy tab -> Analytics & Improvements. The next time you have a panic, after the reboot you'll be prompted to send a kernel panic report to Apple. This both lets them know there's a problem, and gives their developers a bunch of debug info to try to piece together what happened on your computer to cause it.

@swealpha I bought M1 Macbook Air, Pro and iMac in July 2021 (Canada). Never had a random pink screen reboot on any of my machines. Haven’t heard of this issue until now, to be honest.

Our MacBook Air is almost a year old and the M1 mini is about six months old and we haven't seen this problem but those systems are both still running Big Sur.

This issue had been reported since M1 released. So far, it's related to HDMI port and external display. I dont know why people keep saying that it's not an issue.

Both pink screen and memory leak issue are the serious problem for Apple Silicon Mac so far. I already tested on both M1 and M1 Max so I really hate to say Apple didn't fix them yet.

It’s not an issue because it only happens to people with certain setups, and then only rarely.

The memory leak issue is fixed, and related to use of custom mouse pointers.

Not had any issues like this with my launch day M1 Air.

The M1 Air doesn't have an HDMI port.

I have an M1 mini and used to have it driving 2 4k monitors, one via USB-C and the other via HDMI and didn't see this problem. I am running my M1 mini via HDMI right now to 1 4k monitor and I don't see this problem. I am not using a port hub. I also used to run the M1 PRO MacBook Pro to two 4k monitors via 1 USB-C and the HDMI port and didn't have this problem.

I do believe that it exists but there seems to be certain conditions required.

Using an external monitor is NOT a certain setups and clearly not normal to have pink screen issue. I never had this issue in Intel Mac era.

The memory leak issue is not yet fixed and I can confirm it. I can't even use both Blender and FCPX as they keep crashing and using too much of memory.

If you can confirm, then please do. Proof, please.

And, yes, using an external monitor is absolutely a “certain setup.” That’s the very definition of “certain setup.” That’s not even an opinion.

I already made a thread about it. And the project size was only 600 MB on macOS 12.1.

Having issues on a normal setting is NOT normal. Do I even have to argue about that? It is not out fault that we are using an external monitor.

On Blender. The project size is 60 MB from Blender.

Congratulations. You’ve shown that Blender has a memory leak. What does that have to do with the operating system?
Are you trolling or what? Both Blender and FCPX had memory leak issue and you clearly dont know what you are saying. The memory leak issue appeared after macOS 12 and there are a lot of articles on Macrumors. What am I supposed to say then? You clearly dont know what you are saying.

I was using an external display with my MBP 2021 and I change my desktop setup and only use the MBP in mobile mode. Memory use grows far more slowly now but it still does grow. Fortunately I got 32 GB of RAM. I do not use custom pointers. I suspect that there was more than one memory leak and that there are still some around, even after 12.1.
