Getting very fed up with being misinformed about the new ATT Unlimited plan and not being able to use my FAN Discount. Going to switch but want to see if anyone knows if any good promotions are out there.
Seems like many ATT customers were duped like myself. Told me my monthly bill would be around $165/month with taxes using my Fan Discount back in March. Got the bill today and its almost $197. Called their customer loyalty department last night and the guy just blew me off with no resolutions.

Been with AT&T for almost 10 years now.

There was 1-2 months ago with Verizon and the unlimited data and free iphones by switching. Not sure if that is still going on. I switched from ATT then.

So you can't use your FAN discount at all? I recall people saying they were all happy they could and stayed with ATT at that time. But I left even losing my 15% discount with ATT. They pissed me off enough and lied.

You can use the Fan discount with all their other plans.

Thank you for your reply, i'm just bummed out because i had 3 separate conversations with 3 separate representatives on 3 separate dates from ATT back in March that told be the FAN Discount would be applied to the new Unlimited Plans. They were misinformed and therefore misguided me as well. Should have had them email me the logistics of the deal.

Agreed. That is why I never trust AT&T any longer. Not even my work trusts them and we are trying to move away from them. They have a tendency to lie about a lot of stuff.

I had the grandfathered UDP w/ 550 anytime minutes + FAN discount and I switched to the unlimited choice plus.

Even though I lost my discount, it's still a couple of dollars cheaper than when I had FAN and I have unlimited everything now.

As far as any other alternatives, you can shop around to see what's out there that's cheaper for you, however, not many carriers are honoring a FAN discount on these types of plans.

How did ATT lie by not allowing you to use your fan discount?

They told everyone they could use it. That is how they lied.

True, not many are. But AT&T was the most expensive and the FAN discount helped make it a good deal for those that decided to stay. That is why many stayed and now they got screwed, they missed out on the deals when unlimited was brought back.

Nothing remains the same. New plans come with new restrictions. All of the carriers are clamping down on discounts.

I think the big confusion, especially with the AT&T reps, stemmed from the release of the first unlimited plan that AT&T released that didnt include tethering. With that plan which I am currently on, you ARE able to use the FAN discount. So my unlimited plan with 4 lines after 19% FAN discount is $168.60 before device pmts, fees and taxes.

Less than a week after they released the above plan, AT&T discontinued it and released the 2 Unlimited plans that are now available which you CANT use the Fan discount with. So, it was most likely the quick turn around in the plans along with lack of communicating to sales reps. Certainly not an excuse as AT&T should have made sure their reps knew this.

Was that the Direct TV promo they had going? If so then yes, FAN discounts were applicable in that case.

With the release of these two new unlimited plans, there was some confusion regarding the FAN discount, we even had several threads that went pages long with CSR's giving conflicting info. Prior to switching, and without having a concrete answer, I did the calculations myself to see what would be best for me and went with that.

No, it was actually the first Unlimited Plan that they released that did not require DirectTV. It only lasted a week or 10 days before the current Unlimited Plans were released.

I can see how you and ATT could have a misunderstanding for sure.

So what's the issue? You are sharing unlimited? Isn't that still basically unlimited for everyone who is "sharing" it?

They told everyone they could use it. That is how they lied.

Well, they didn't tell 'everyone' that the FAN discount would be applicable to the new unlimited plans. The day the "new new" unlimited plans were released, there were several threads on MR where people were saying that they were told that the FAN would apply and then several other people chimed in to say that they were told that the FAN wouldn't apply.

That being said, anyone with a FAN who tried to switch to the new unlimited plans via the AT&T website could see the cost breakdown and it was quite clear that the FAN would not apply to the new unlimited plans. Several people said they were going to try to fight it and get the FAN reinstated based on what a CSR told them. I think most people who tried that tactic probably ended up in the same boat the OP is in.

You don't read Howardforums as well as other sites. They told MANY people on those sites that it would work. People who were leaving AT&T which decided not too because of it.

If U are unhappy with att. Switch to Verizon.

They got promo all the time. Up to $650 trade in credit. But works best if u got an older phone to trade in and not ur new phone.

Trade in phone has to be worth more than $10. Usually u can find some cheap post paid android phone on Craigslist that can qualify for the $650 trade in credit for dirt cheap like less than $100.

Plus combine this with target $300 att next offer (or similar) offers they run from time to time. U are golden Target offer expired last week. But sams club Costco etc usually run similiar deals.

My English is not perfect like yours but maybe i am wrong so if 4 iPhone sharing data it mean for me that all of us sharing a bank of data that tomorrow can be limit to 22GB and if i am not string it mean that every one has unlimited that one day can limit to 22GB total of 88GB verses 22gb, am I right or wrong?

Doesn't really seem like it's about English or anything like that, but just understanding of the details. If you are talking about the dereprioritization limit of 22 GB, that is per line, not per account. Perhaps the account might list data as being "shared" but you still have unlimited data, so shared or not, its still unlimited (with the 22 GB number applying to each line on its own).

It is 22gb per line and the 22gb is not a cap. They MAY throttle your speeds if the cell tower you are connected too is overcrowded. Most of the time, you should be getting unlimited high speed data on each line.

I just wanted to pile on. I hate AT&T and Comcast more than any other companies I have ever hated. They act the way they do because they have/had monopolies in many of their products. It's not that they just intentionally lie, they are sometimes so ignorant of their own policies and plans that they are just confused. I call or chat with AT&T about 3 times per issue. This is on top of them making the mistake in the first place. Their departments are all over the place and apparently don't know what everyone else does. I can't begin to try to analyze how their org is set up.

I clicked into this thread because I after about 2 months on a new plan, I'm not really seeing the pricing they promised. They quote a price, then they do the standard add on of "taxes and govt charges" which really are arbitrary fees AT&T determines and doesn't directly pay the government. I get that, but they are getting bold on what % they are claiming are these fees disguised as taxes. On top of that, they routinely overcharge "in error". I have to watch my bills like a hawk. I'm sick of shady business tactics. This is like 1970's New York real estate shady. That's fine for the last few decades they've had us by the sack, but in this day and age they need to do better. Transparency is what the internet age is all about. Seriously exploring tmobile now. Argh. End rant.

not sure about good deals anywhere, but I left ATT in October 2016 after 7 years. I will most likely never go back. I was sick and tired of their ways.

I am already with Verizon. Like I originally said.

Agreed. And I can promise that 22gb, AT&T will just put a full throttle on it for everyone. And just say all the towers are congested. That is how they are. I left them after 20 years.

I think the whole unlimited data CAP thing is crap anyway. If it was really about congestion, then there should be no reason why those on unlimited W/ Direct TV never get capped. Besides, everywhere you go you're bound to run into WiFi somewhere, if you're not set up for WiFi at home/work already. With the rollout for mobile 4K video within the next few years, data usage is only going to increase.

A bit of FYI for those in the N.E.Tri-State area, but if you're already under Spectrum or Verizon Fios, you're connection is able to handle up to 1 Gig/ps if not more of download. Not that you'd ever need speeds this fast, this is more geared towards the transition into 4K content across different platforms.
