Overall, I've noticed a speed boost in most everything on a 2019 16" MBPro (i9 processor, 32 GB RAM, 5500M 8GB video).

Unlike so many people, I LOVE the new UI changes, but then I enjoy change... it keeps things interesting. That being said, a few of the changes I don't care for - like the half-hidden folder names at the top of Finder windows. I see no point in that and it's highly inefficient.

I've only come across one tiny little utility that doesn't seem to work with BigSur - Loremify (a menubar Lorem Ipsum generator), but that app hasn't been updated in a really, really long time and I don't expect it ever will be (unfortunately). Every other app and utility seems to run just fine, for the most part. I say that because Adobe CC apps never run "just fine" on any OS, and the current versions on BigSur are no exception. Nothing earth-shattering, just annoying.

The hand-off feature that supposedly makes switching devices seamless when using AirPods doesn't work very well for me. I have an iPhone, iPad, and a Mac; wearing AirPods Pro and switching to a different device almost always requires me to manually select AirPods from the Bluetooth settings. The feature works great when it works... for me, that just isn't very often.

I have zero regrets updating. After I did the initial update, I did a clean install a few days after using Recovery Mode and everything is still working as it should. The only thing I really dislike is the hideous login screen.

Please list every last one of the "hundreds of bugs" that YOU SPECIFICALLY have. As far as having "no new features or improvements" - that's a joke, and you've lost any credibility whatsoever with that statement.
Features:

None. New icons and "wallpapers" or cosmetic changes don't count as "features". There are NO new apps. There is NO new functionality under the hood. There are NO new fonts. OS is NOT faster. OS is NOT more memory efficient, but even more memory hungry. OS did NOT fix outstanding bugs in Catalina (like infinite loops of com.apple.mdworker.shared.0E000000-0200-0000-0000-000000000000[78452]): Service exited due to SIGKILL).

Bugs:

I didn't say that I personally had hundreds of bugs, but I do have these, which should never have been bugs in the first place if Apple had done their job properly. Together with what other people report, there are easily hundreds of rather obvious bugs. This is poorly tested alpha software that belongs in the trashcan.

1. TextEdit: pasting takes you to top of page
2. TextEdit: erasing to beginning of line takes you to top of page
3. TextEdit: searching doesn't hilite properly
4. TextEdit: contextual menu in Dock resource intensive and slow
5. TextEdit: when writing text at bottom of a page, page will not scroll properly
6. Books: icon for switching between grid/list view is missing
7. Activity Monitor: text too small, line spacing too big, too much whitespace
8. Music: Genres don't show after modifying Album Artist or some other fields
9. Audio: sound cracks
10. Audio: coreaudiod makes video fast forward to end after first sleep on reboot
11. Safari: jumping UI elements on some Youtube videos
12. Finder: stuttering Quicklook when opening preview of document
13. Music: Doesn't select text when clicking on genre, have to do cmd-A
14. Music: No visible progress when importing music
15. Music: When converting to AAC, the Search window becomes active instead of whatever you had before

Well, there is one bug for those who use eGPUs:

WARNING - I just updated and this docking station doesn't work:

j5create - USB Type-C Triple Display Docking Station

Specifically, only one external display is working now. I have three in total - so two are now useless. Grrrr..

Looks like the manufacturer is working on driver updates for Big Sur. Found out too late.

I have one of their adapters and it said not to update. The only reason I looked is because I am thinking of getting the new Mac Mini. I had the same issue when I went from 10.11 to 10.13.6. After updating I found out they had issues with this OS version. The adapter became useless and I had to buy a different brand. Even when it becomes compatible, I still cannot use it because it is USB 3.0 to VGA.

I hate that message filling the logs.

As a "bonus", I also get this every 30 seconds:

Code:
Nov 21 22:07:34 MBP xpcproxy[3634]: libcoreservices: _dirhelper_userdir: 557: bootstrap_look_up returned (ipc/send) invalid destination port
Nov 21 22:07:45 MBP AMPDeviceDiscoveryAgent[2446]: Entered:_AMMuxedDeviceDisconnected, mux-device:98
Nov 21 22:07:45 MBP AMPDeviceDiscoveryAgent[2446]: Entered:__thr_AMMuxedDeviceDisconnected, mux-device:98
Nov 21 22:07:45 MBP AMPDeviceDiscoveryAgent[2446]: tid:7117 - Mux ID not found in mapping dictionary
Nov 21 22:07:45 MBP AMPDeviceDiscoveryAgent[2446]: tid:7117 - Can't handle disconnect with invalid ecid
Nov 21 22:08:03 MBP com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]

I can't believe Apple developers never look in the logs, so what's stopping them fixing them? It just adds to the growing lack of confidence in macOS and Apple in general.

I know this is uncool to say, ha ha, but I love Big Sur. My 2015 iMac with a fusion drive is significantly faster than it was with Catalina. Everything seems to work smoother. My other Macs with SSD's are working great with it as well. So far, Big Sur's my favorite version of the macOS yet.

Upgraded MBP and MP all happy and fine.
Not found a single reason to look back at Catalina so far.

The look of the icons will take some time to get used to, but them being more like the iPhone and iPad might make it easier in the long run.

Caught Google Chrome trying to use Bluetooth ... ==> bye-bye Chrome! [Actually working on a plan to move all we have at Google (includes payed for subscriptions) away from them. Enough is enough.

Any of you regret updating from Catalina?
I'm running it on a non-critical Macbook Pro and so far, I like it pretty well. I've not yet had any significant issues. I don't necessarily think there are "must have" features. Still running Catalina on my iMac on which I have some software that has to run and won't upgrade that till I know all of my critical software will run smoothly.

Smart move about not moving to Big Sur yet. I have yet to download it for testing, but my plan is to do it "some time" after the next version, V11.1, arrives. I might even wait until V11.2 arrives. Still have 5 critical applications, however, that are not yet compatible. I hope 2 or 3 of them are fairly soon.

A bit of both. On the plus side my 2017 iMac's "snap" is back - Catalina never worked well on it. The new Widgets are good.
On the minus side it's not working well with my Synology NAS. I think some of the "new" icons look old-fashioned and it looks like different teams with different ideas designed them - there's no cohesion, which I expect from Apple.
Otherwise don't really see much difference. Certainly nothing like the jump from OS9 to OSX! That was traumatic :)

They "solved" it by adding a "start streaming" button in Console. "Streaming log messages will impact system performance". That's how bad it is…

I don't regret it but I would have if I updated given some of the software I use did not work correctly with it, I HATE the UI changes, and the issue with clones is something I consider to be a big problem (which may have since been resolved). The privacy concerns are also something else I would want to read about more before updating as I am a Little Snitch user. I don't update an OS until I've used it as first a VM and then installed on an external, and I try to avoid installing an OS early on if I can avoid it. Catalina works reasonably well and most of the bugs I am experiencing are more annoyances than major functionality/productivity impairments.

While I'm not enamored of the look of the UI (and haven't been since the introduction of OS X Crayon), I have noticed that unlike the past 4 or 5 iterations of OS X, BS doesn't beachball on my Air, and it is noticeably faster on my 2013 MBA than OS X was). So far the only issue I've had is that Maps freezes and requires a "kill". A (somewhat) minor annoyance is that the text contrast is so washed out in Safari that I've had to move to Chrome to read websites.

Thanks for confirming your complete lack of knowledge about the OS, and your pedestrian idea of what "new functionality under the hood" is — also the assumptions you've made that are completely incorrect.

As for the numbers you listed as bugs. I tried the first five you listed and didn't experience any of the problems you mentioned, so I stopped there. More than a few of the things you listed are not bugs, but changes in functionality or in the case of one of them is nothing more than your opinion.

I'm not saying there aren't issues with Big Sur, there are issues with every OS. But as is most often the case, the vast majority of the "bugs" listed in web forums like this are the fault of the person with the problem (software conflict, lack of understanding, "messy housekeeping," lack of driver support by 3rd-party, etc.)

The bugs have been confirmed by others, and I really don't know what "driver" TextEdit needs…

Yeah, I was thinking of rolling back to Catalina but managed to get a second screen working with a separate adapter. So, I think I’ll just wait for j5create to release new drivers.

I didn't upgrade, as such.
I fresh installed on a new partition as a trial on my mid 2012 rMBP.
I'm now on 20C5048 and very happy with how it runs. Snappier than Catalina for me. Nothing unwieldy at all so far.

Well, @MacGizmo , think it's just fair to use your own words here: thanks for confirming your complete lack of knowledge about how any OS works. 👿
I tried the first five you listed and didn't experience any of the problems you mentioned, so I stopped there.
From my point of view, that's a severe error in reasoning and thinking. One person not having problems with an OS other persons in fact have does not indicate anything at all - especially it is never, never ever an indication that there is no bug. That's just how operating systems work, basic knowledge - the occurence of bugs almost never hits all users, normally it is highly dependent on the specific system, configuration etc., and there is a high variance in how many users are affected.
And, also important: if someone has a valid configuration which causes problems because of an OS bug, while other configurations don't cause any of that trouble, it is of course not his/her fault, but the fault of the OS!
More than a few of the things you listed are not bugs, but changes in functionality or in the case of one of them is nothing more than your opinion.

Well, from what I can say the vast majority of the 15 items the original writer mentions do not make any sense as changes in functionality, but to me look much more like plain old bugs. There seem to be many people around who are not capable of differentiating between a misbehaviour of the OS and other problems, but in this case that problem seems to be more on your side than on the side of the original writer.
(..)also the assumptions you've made that are completely incorrect.
Well - from my perspective such absolute statements indicate that there is in fact some uncertainty and should always be taken with a grain of salt. 🤨
Maybe it's your opinion that the assumptions you refer to are "completely incorrect", but from my standpoint that surely should not be stated as an objective fact.

I'd like to upgrade, but that involves getting a new Mac or go into the realm of "unsupported".

Any of you regret updating from Catalina?
Yes. New UI takes getting used to. Touch ID is only available some of the time. I can't use it to log into the machine anymore. Three apps use a lot require expensive upgrades to work properly, VMWare Fusion, Camtasia, and SnagIt. Chrome seems to forget who I am and asks for 2fA a few times a day. A very small number of VSTs (audio plugins) lost their presets. And an ancient Eclipse app that I knew would die some day finally did. All in all I cannot complain, the vast majority of stuff didn't break, and it gave me a good reason to finally do a full backup.

No. The default font size is a little small for my eyes and I have increased that e.g. I have increased the minimum front size in Safari from 9 to 14 and now find the screen more readable and less cluttered. So far , so good. I like it.
