Well I guess I am in luck then in that case since my SSD inside my 5K iMac spins at 709.6 MB/s Write and 721.3 MB/3 Read. At least I hope so. But of Course I will back up in case I have to return to Yosemite.
I think you'll be fine.

From my personal experiences, El Capitan fixed a lot of weirdo bugs from Yosemite - I was getting kernel panics, top menu disappearing, safari being very unstable, wifi issues and a host of other things, and the update to 10.11.0 fixed those, can't promise everyone's experiences will be the same though.

However on a 2009 and 2011 iMac El Capitan is slow.

No regrets here running El Capitan on an Early 2008 iMac (see specs in sig). No problems, no crashes, nada. Actually, Yosemite and El Cap felt noticeably quicker on my machine than previous iterations. However, after recently upgrading to an SSD, things are much more zippier.

There are some features in 10.10 and 10.1 my machine is unable to support, but I don't feel like I'm missing out. That said, Handoff would be nice for the occasional situation when I want to pick up or switch over on something from iPad to iMac and back.

A solid state drive will do wonders.

I have a mid 2009 white non unibody macbook with 2 gb of ram. i have El Capitan 10.11.4 installed now for the last 3 days and I couldn't be happier with it. the machine is lightning fast, no annoying beach balls and no slowdowns. it is 100% better than my dell e6410 i5 2.67 ghz 4 gb ram with a sad in it. now i am only using my dell for live weather radar feeds when out chasing tornadoes. I got this macbook from someone i knew at my local starbucks after he was still running snow leopard on it and managed to get the obama virus on it. i told him i could fix it for him and he said no he just bought an iPad pro and don't need it. asked me if i wanted it and i obviously told him absolutely. did a fresh install of snow leopard with just the 10.6.8 combo update, planned on going to apple to install lion figuring that was the latest it could run being a white non unibody macbook.... went to the app store and found out it could install El Capitan so i let it do the download and install while i was in bed... loving every minute with this machine, even thinking about trying out radar scope for it and hopefully give up microsoft's crapathon of windows.

If they were owned by me, I'd be ok as I've taken apart and repaired a lot of computers. However that massive glass screen scares me away, when the computers are not owned by me.
I repair my own as well ... just for someone that has never done it before it is quite an undertaking. I remember taking apart my first iMac. It was a buddy of mine's and he wanted to upgrade the drive inside. That was quite a process. About to upgrade my folks' iMac to an SSD because the hard drive is on the way out.

When we added a Thunderbolt SSD to our 2011 iMac and put El Cap on it, it practically became a new computer. I haven't checked but I'd be willing to bet the current spinner iMacs feel slower.

i'd try the reboot first as it is less traumatic :)
That worked. Now my second Apple TV is sending commands every 10 min like the other one. LOL I'll reboot that one also and see if it stops sending so many request for no reason.

If the Apple TV is wirelessly connected to the Mac, go to Energy Saver and disable "Wake for Wi-Fi network access".
Yeah but I like to sleep when not I use. So that's not an option I would like to turn off. Thanks.

Well I finally upgraded to El Capitan. The only problem I have had so far is that my Total Finder program will not run under El Capitan out of the box. I am not sure I will go to the trouble of using the Terminal program just to run Total Finder. Other than that, I have found no problems as I have been testing it all weekend long and everything i try it runs. I will keep you posted if I notice something but it seems if your Mac is using a SSD drive then you are fairly safe to upgrade without any problems occurring later on. Fingers crossed.

Ok, just to update you, I can run all of my software that I have installed and that is alot. Anyway i did run into a problem that I will have to look into the next few days and if i Can't fix this problem I will have no choice but to revert back to Yosemite. MY Blu-ray dvd player by Asus, will not show up anymore no matter what i do. I did a PRAM Reset, and a SMC reset and still the problem. There are rumors that Apple did something to force people only to use Apple products instead of 3rd party external drives. If they did this, Apple may lose me forever.

My Pioneer Blu-ray drive does show up and works perfectly fine in El Capitan. Those rumors are ridiculous.

Did you check for any new driver with Asus? If they don't have one maybe it's not Apple's fault...after all it's been 7 months now...

I have not checked Asus's site. I would think it would not need a driver since its a Mac, but who knows. I did unplug my Asus Blu-ray DVD drive and let it sit for 1 min then plugged it back in and it found it. until i let my system go to sleep then waking it up after over night it will find it again. SO weird. I will call Asus today.

Update: I just got off the phone with Asus and they don't have any solution for me regarding this drive. Mac's don't use drivers which I was aware of but thought they may have a work around. This time when i unplug the dvd completely from power and USB sometimes it will show up and most of the time it won't. El Capitan has let me down once again. I will go back with Yosemite as with that O/S it was flawless. Should have known better than to upgrade. Lesson learned. My advice: Stay away from El Capitan unless you don't use your Mac for much except surfing and email and even then the email did not work that great. Sometimes when selecting the emails it would select the proper email and the email that I was expecting to delete did not get deleted but another one did. Frustrating. Still EL Capitan is NOT READY for Main Stream. Unbelievable. Stay Away From El Captian. It is STILL NOT READY. I am going back to Yosemite. 10.10.5

^^^^I have two optical drives in my cMP. Both LGs. One is a DVD the other BD drive. No issues with either drive. Both are OEM, not Apple supplied drives. In Fact I have none of the issues you are mentioning. Things are still working fine for me, on both my cMP and my MBA.

I wouldn't go so far to say it's not ready for main stream. Just because YOUR external DVD drive doesn't work 100% of the time, doesn't mean it's the same for everyone else. Granted I don't have an external bluray drive, as I replaced my internal DVD drive with a bluray drive in my late 2011 MBP, but I think you're over exaggerating your statement just a little.

Due to the Safari linked freezes on 10.11.4 and the subsequent freezes system wise i regret updating to El Cap.

Lucky for me, my Yosemite partition is available and using that.
