My only complaint is no back protection... I slip the entire thing into my incase sleeve when its in the backpack.
Leading up to today, I was totally on the fence about the smart cover. After using it now, I have to say that this is one high quality little cover. Ya it doesn't offer much in terms of protection on the back of the iPad, but seeing how the hinge/magnets work so well really just remind me of another high quality apple product. Everyone was whining about the hinge potentially scratching the side of the iPad, but of course apple thought of that by putting a couple rubber-y strips in there. also I saw someone mention that when you fold it up, the inside microfiber is actually on the outside of the stand, with the potential to get dirty and maybe even scratch the screen. Not only can you fold it the other way to have the top of the cover on the outside, but the magnets in the cover actually keep the stand pretty solid. This in combination with some type of back cover/protection and you're good to go. Just my $.02.

Obviously I've only had the cover for a few hours (and haven't been able to use my actual iPad2 bc I learned the hard way that I need to upgrade to Snow Leopard and iTunes10 from Tiger, d'oh!)... but I'm honestly in love with my lime-green smartcover! I'm a huge fan of naked products and this is about as non-bulky as one will get for screen protection. The fact it works as a stand too is great, and the magnetic hinge really does "just know where to go". I understand the case offers no back protection, but I don't plan on dropping the iPad2 since it's not a phone and I've never once dropped my MacBook. As far as protection for the back from scratches, I'll probably get an InvisibleShield. So, in short, after a few hours, I'm loving this smartcover! Depending on your needs/concerns, YMMV.

Question - when you open the Smart Cover does it swing back, and cover the back side of the iPad (offering protection when using?) - if so - does it connect on the back and stick with magnets on the back to protect it?
Have you confirmed its thirty days.... apple gal told me fourteen on all ipad number two accessories.

I like the smart cover a lot (bought black leather), now I need something to protect the back either film or an airjacket.
Smells horrible...I have a headache from it. Plus I don't think it's all that great in terms of protection. I am going to couple it with a sleeve until a good case comes out...hopefully within 30 days, so I can return the smart cover. Waste of money!
Finally an honest review. I agree they look like a gimick. No back protection. Wow, it turns on when you open it BFD.
Bonus points for the half fold is not getting the microfiber side all gross.Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)
It will swing back to protect the back, but magnets don't hold it back, you have to hold the iPad with two hands if you want the full back covered while holding. However, it does this cool "half-fold" thing that I feel is more comfortable to hold -- so it covers half of the back, and feels like a more organic grip in portrait mode.
Buying protection that needs to be used with more protection is a fail.
