Anyone have any idea how to wash it once the microfiber gets loaded with oils and such? I threw the box away so if it explains in a manual there, I don't have it :\

Sorry, but I still feel the smart cover is like a "look what we can make isn't it cool" designer item, rather than an actual practical in REAL use item.

I can see someone grabbing the smart-cover without full having hold of the iPad, the iPad then slips, the magnets are not strong enough and you are left holding the smart cover and the iPad is on the floor.

By all means, Apple, make this, but also make a version of your original case also.

Hopefully, Someone CAN copy the original Apple design for a iPad2 case, if Apple has not make one then they can't say someone else has copied it, can they?

The magnets certainly are strong enough to hold the iPad. Granted when I tried it I was sort of gentle in picking it up but you would have to have a decent amount of shake for it to break loose.

A for the original case I honestly hated it, it felt flimsy and cheap and got dirty really easily. To me the smart cover seems much more high quality than the last apple case. How much did that one cost? 29? If so the 10 extra dollars are well worth it. Also it seems to work much better than the original case as far as standing in both orientations.

Edit: this is the best way I have found to manage the back flap

It magnatizes too itself so it feels more solid than the original case did also

While I was waiting in line one of the Apple employees dangled an iPad from a smart cover. He shook it pretty vigorously four or five times to demonstrate how hard the magnets grip, which was impressive... until it did actually let go and the iPad dropped to the mall floor. It didn't break, and his ill-advised demonstration actually did show that the magnets grip well.

I got a red leather one. I want it red but I wish it was available in non-leather, because the leather ones are really expensive. But I like leather case in general, so I thought if this was a high quality leather case then that'd be fine for me.

Big mistake. I know that all leather has grains and spots here and there, which is the nature of leather. But mine has a big spot in the middle and some very visible grains along the one of the edges. Overall they makes my cover looks like it had been used for a few years. I'm bringing it back to Apple store tomorrow to see if I can get it replaced. I hope they don't bs me and say their warranty/return policies do not cover cosmetic defect. We buy covers like this that offer minimal protection purely for cosmetic reason.

Ok, went to Apple store today and got a replacement within a minute, which is pretty cool. Have to give credit to Apple customer service. All they told me was "Sure, we can replace the cover for you if your are jot happy with it."

So they let me go an pick another one. The problem is, the front of the Smart Cover box is a piece of semi-transparent film. You can see the cover, but not exactly clearly. I picked one that I thought would have no scratches or spot in the middle like the one I had originally. But once I opened it, I saw two noticeably scratches. At this point I had to accept that sooner or later scratches would develop as I use it, as long as it doesn't have a grain spot in the middle I'm ok with it.

Any reviews yet on the new covers? Are they worth getting or should I go with a sleeve for better protection?
The purpose of a smart cover is to pump up Apples profit. It's a typical Apple overpriced gimmick.

A sleeve is a much better choice since it covers the entire device and is not prone to fail. Plus there are many different choices and prices. Sleeves are the only thing I use for my iPads & MBA's.

I loved everything about the smart cover until I just slightly chipped my iPad screen because the cover magnets didn't hold. That happened just a few minutes ago and I am not happy. iPad fell face down about two inches and there is a teeny tiny chip a the edge of the glass now. Baa!!

I wasn't carrying the iPad by the cover, just lifted it slightly with it while also holding the iPad and the magnets slipped off the iPad.

Apart from that !!!! The covers rock. They look great, they go on and off really easily, the angle for typing is wonderful and rock solid. I think the video view angle is a tad steep but that could be me. The color range is fantastic and they add zero weight and bulk to the device, making it now something you can more easily carry around with you. I think they are ingenius, really.

Until I chipped my screen! Not returning it though -- it has character now and honestly you have to be staring at it and running your fingers along the edge of the glass to notice it. Unless the whole thing shatters later today!

Black leather here. GENIUS!!! A amazing addition to a fantastic tablet. Perfect for "around the house" protection. I will by a sleeve to slide it in when I take it on the go.

What happened to you is exactly what I'm afraid of.

Yes and I was holding it in both hands! One on the cover, one on the iPad. The magnets didn't hold and there was the slip, slamming the screen onto the table. Unbelievable, really. The cover at first would appear to be a reasonably secure thing but it isn't. Lesson learned!

I'm thinking I may take mine back just to save me the worry. . Just because I have a history of these kinds of things happening to me:). I dropped my car keys on the top of my MacBook Pro. Car keys can do some real damage:)
