MBP 16 is not coming out anytime soon. If it was in the offing, both 2 and 4 port M1 MBP 13's would've been released. The iGPU of the M1, while good, is still not full mid-tier dGPU that the 5500M currently is at.

Given that the current M1 machines blow away their Intel replacements, I would expect the same of the MBP 16 replacement which should have a CPU/GPU that kills both the i9 (which is still more powerful in multithread than current M1) and 5500M or even the 5600M GPU's.

More then likely these articles are getting the news they are hearing and combining them instead of realizing that they are separate products.

The next few weeks could very well see an updated 16" MBP via press release but with intel processors. The M1x 16" likely isn't coming until WWDC 2021 along with a 14" MBP with a redesign and mini led displays.

OP: the announcement could be via a press release that happens sooner, but the actual ship date is still rumored to be 2021.

For the December surprise, the mysterious tweet mentions winter, so it could be earmuffs, ie AirPod Studio.

Any truth to MB PRO 16 M1 having a soft release next week?

Some say not till 2021, others say within the next few days.

Not sure if anyone has any info. I want to buy the 16 Pro but don't want to if the new one will be released any day now.
Whoever said that is soft in the head

MacBook Pro 16" with Apple Silicon will be out between January-April 2021.

well that what apple is looki for for sure... to get back 50% of what they sold already :) not going to happen :)

If they will release, the 13” buyers will bitch a lot. That cant show apple in good way
To be honest, anybody who has bought an M1 Mac this early is doing-so in full awareness that this will be the slowest Apple Silicon Mac ever and that the higher-end, soon-to-be-released ones will blow them away. But it's all relative. And this is what happens in technology.

Based on the many people talking about the M1 they dont think there will be any refreshed Macs coming out anymore in 2021.

Insisting that the Intel Mac Pro will be refreshed by December 2022. o_O

If anything MacBook Pro 16" is getting soft-released, it's models with 10th Gen Intel and Radeon Pro 6000 series, and despite the Boot Camp leak, I'm not too sure we'll see that at this point. Otherwise, we're not seeing anything in terms of an Apple Silicon 16" MacBook Pro until 2H 2021.

My thoughts exactly!

- Releasing an updated intel 16" is a clear sign the AS 16" is way waaaay into 2021.
- No way Apple would release a Macbook Pro with world-shattering performance through a simple press-release. CPU stuff aside, they'd need to showcase-hype their iGPU
- They didn't release a 16" along side the 13" for the simple reason that clearly, given significant lower prices, would likely cause a sales gap between the Air and 16" Pro at launch. Plus, gives more time (and pressure) for developers to update their software.

The Mini Developer Kit had no Thunderbolt, so 100% of hardware producers were stuck waiting for public release to get on with porting their drivers/software suits. This is the core of the 16" market. Power users without support for their interfaces, cameras, screens, docks and other gadgets would be stuck without being able to work

So I guess we'll know by xmas when to expect the 16"

Also, makes sense for the AS 16" to introduce a redesign, as their flagship model for laptops

Osborne Effect will impact all Intel Macs.

To be able to meet sales targets for 2021 Apple must transition all their Intel Macs to Apple Silicon Mac by WWDC 2021.

All arguments to sell Intel Macs beyond June 2021 does not hold water unless it's a token unit for backward compatibility like the last Mac with SuperDrive that was introduced in June 2012 and discontinued in October 2016.

Why would anyone buy an Intel Mac now or even 2021 much less 2022?

M1's faster than any Mac at a fraction of the cost.

Apple Silicon Macbook Pro 16" will be out between January-April 2021 when higher-end chips becomes available designed for all remaining Macs excluding iMac Pro and Mac Pro.

Intel Macbook Pro 16" is the most out of date notebook Apple sells. It was launched November 13, 2019.

If they want to make a quick sale is to refresh directly Apple Silicon for an early 2021 Mac release.

WWDC 2021 will be the ideal time to launch the Apple Silicon iMac Pro and Mac Pro.

This is possible through the Tim Cook doctrine where Apple increases R&D spending and buys and owns primary technology up front.

think it may be out Q1 in 2021....but who knows might release one this time next year instead.

IMHO the M1x is primed and ready to go... It is the rumored Apple dGPU that still needs some time in development for the upper spec 16 inch. I guess they could release a base spec 16 inch with just the M1x iGPU (12-16 core gpu with performance between the 5500m and 5600m most likely) but then that upper end intel model would be out of place considering the M1x will likely destroy it in terms of performance. (unlike the upper end 13" that offers more IO then the base m1 variant).

Thinking Q1, but who knows...

Interesting that the Black Friday coupons give the most money for the 16" MBP and the 21.5" iMac. That does make you wonder...

They could really rub salt into the rest of the industry by making an M1X along with lowering the price of the 16.

Any chance there will be a 16 inch without discrete GPU ?

All I would need is 2x the GPU of the M1. But I realize that most MBP 16 users need a lot more than that. Apple could seriously do whatever they want to on the GPU side. It's like they have too many good options right now. I'd love a MacBook Air with 4 performance cores and 12 efficiency cores with 30 hour battery life.

The #1 reason I don't see this happening is because there would be a SLEW of returns from previous 15-16" owners who settled for 13" M1 machines to get on the ground floor. I would be one of those returns.
