Anybody else here NOT like Apple?

It seems that I'm the only person who owns a mac who doesn't think Apple are great and simply rates them as an average company. I hate it when people insist on going on about how great they are and how great their customer service is, when it's not, it's just good PR. I could go on for as long about this as an Apple fanboy could go on about how much he loves Apple, but I won't because i simply can't be bothered.

But i was wondering, does anybody here have a mac and think apple is a totally over-hyped company? I don't know where else to ask this so, despite this being a place filled with apple fanboys, i thought i'd ask it here.
 
You've come to the wrong shop for anarchy..

I've explained my stance several times, but in a nutshell:

1. I've used Windows - every version extensively except 98SE and Vista - and had consistent problemos across the board.

2. I switched to a Macintosh - have used several OSs on several machines - and had not one glitch.

3. MS support for me was incredibly bad. The twice I've called Apple (once for an actual problem, which was my fault anyway) they were beside themselves trying to help and they spoke fluent English.
 
I think their quality control has gone to hell within the past few years, and it seems to me that they're focusing on the iPhone more then anything else these days. But I guess they're just out to make money like everyone else.:(
 
I sort of agree. I think that their OS is incredible, but the hardware is good but not great. The computers are mostly built to be asthetically pleasing, and thus are very expensive, underpowered, and difficult to take apart. For example, the iMac. I could build a dual core machine with 2.66 GHZ for about $300, and get a 24" monitor for $250 easily instead of paying the $1500 for an iMac. I also don't want to pay for a mac pro just to get quad core. That being said, I still think apples are good if you need a laptop, but they really don't have a good low-budget desktop. For $600, i think the new mini is a joke. My whole quad core rig cost under $600, and could run circles around the mini.

So basically, i like the OS, not the hardware.
 
I do not 'dislike' Apple. I like them very much, but I do think that Apple is a great company that is extremely overrated by some of its closer followers.
 
there are pros and cons of apple

I like:

1. some of its social stance are great
2. it has very elegant design for its products

I dislike

1. its marketing tricks, deceptive, over priced, patent troll
2. its RDF, I just can't stand a company with huge influence doing such a thing that misinform massive amount of people. I can't describe how annoyed I am by this.

Maybe this is a mac forum, and my dislike of apple is too out of tune, and my like of apple is not really necessary since there are overwhelming cheerleading already from people around.
 
Been a Macuser for two decades, but are typing this on an X200s, and the MBP is resigned next to it until I am sure I have everything I need. Then it's tossed out (the MBP)

I think that the fanboys (this includes most from the iPod and iPhone crowd) have taken over. Well, actually, they did a long time ago, and I have been less than satisfied with Apple's products for a very long time. It's finally close to be completely over.
 
I wouldn't say I 'like' any company, that would imply I feel some kind of emotion, which is definitely not the case with me, though I appreciate products it produces. I don't like apple's image, I don't like their commercials, but I respect Steve Jobs and I sure as hell like macs, so that would place me somewhere in the middle of the hater / fanboy spectrum.

Apple and its products are consistently at the top of customer satisfication ratings. It is my understanding that Apple's MacBook family of laptop computers currently top Consumer Reports ratings. Despite the rants of a few, the weight of the evidence is that the quality of Apple's products has never been better.
 
They're a global company. What's there to like?

Their products are ok but that's about it.
 
I have used Windows most of my computing life, tried OS8 when I was in school and thought it was fairly crap, so I stuck with Windows until OS X came about, I tried and loved it, bought a G5, and now own a Macbook.


Apple as a company isnt to bad, they have good customer support from what I have seen and they make some very nice products that seem to have a lot of thought gone into their design.

But just like any company they have there bad points, like stupid marketing and having some kind of cult following and making products that are great but leaving out simple, important features....:(

Totally, totally agree. Arrogant people think the iPod is what Apple is all about, they seem to be ignorant to the fact that it started primarily as a computer company over 20 years prior. Then you get people that totally talk crap about Apple whenever you bring up Macs, but they're the very same ones that think they're better then everyone else and flaunt the fact that they have an iPhone - what, do they think it's just coincidence that the logos on the back of it just happen to be identical to the ones on a Mac? :rolleyes:

For example, last night some of my friends on Facebook were complaining about Windows 7 and how they make too many OS's (what, do they think technology can't evolve?!), and they randomly brought up Macs and one guy goes "...I love Vista, and totally despise Apple". Is that so? Why, then, do you happen to constantly have your iPhone out, making sure people see it while trying to act as if you're only using it in a crowd because you absolutely have to? Bragger. And what, can't you remember when your iPod got stolen and you were saying how much you wanted it back for several weeks? :rolleyes:

For me, the iPhone is actually the epitome of Apple's current state. It has everything wrong with it that it could. Terrible quality control, pretty crappy pricing (that's subjective, of course, but it's my own opinion), software problems that have taken a long time to iron out...(the back case cracking, dead pixels everywhere, light leaks, dust, silent switch falling off, home button problems, terrible 3G reception that Apple has now attempted to fix many times with software updates to only limited success, saying the original iPhone is incapable of functions like video recording and MMS despite the fact it's definitely able to do it when it's jailbroken...). And the sad thing is, a lot of these flaws transitioned to the new iPod touch - dust under the screen and light leaks being the prominent example. Neither of my Macs have exhibited problems as serious as what my iPods have, or what iPhone users seem to experience.

The only thing I don't agree with is the pricing and the parts. I don't agree with spending $3200AUD on the low-end MacBook Pro when it has that stupid flaw where scrolling in Safari causes the text to appear 'wavy' on some parts of the screen (and it's not the graphics card issue; if you have the 15" MBP you should know what I mean). My best friend's PC from well over a year ago had the 9600M graphics card, so it's also a bit pathetic if Apple only starts adopting it in October 2008.

So yes, I totally agree with you. The iPhone crowd has started to ruin Apple for me. The iPhone is a totally buggy device and I would never own one in it's current state. Yet they're the exact same people that put down Macs for being "old, buggy and incompatible" - look at the device you're holding in your hand, I don't see you having it in a condition anywhere near as good as that in a year...but it'll be a different story for my sturdy Mac.
 
Actually I don't think fanboys focus on the iPod or iPhone- it's just the general misconception that Apple products will always be better than... anything else on the market that disturbs me. Just look at the external monitor threads- jesus, you'd think that monitors besides the ACD don't even exist.

until I see a monitor as well designed as the 23 inch cinema display come out of a 3rd party there may as well be no other monitors.

See that's exactly what I'm talking about. You are being superficial and paying a premium on equipment (panels) that are a) used throughout the industry b) the same panels sold to other monitor manufacturers. They are no better than a Dell that contains the same panel, no matter how much you love Apple.
 
I really dig the work of Apple's design team. They are truly best in their class and destroy the competition in terms of aesthetics and industrial design skills.

Apple the corporation though? They seem greedy like most other corporations and do some boneheaded things quite often, especially with iPhone app approvals and the like. Every so often they also do quite commendable things like removing DRM from iTunes audio. So it's a bit hit or miss with them.
 
i like a lot of things about apple. it's support, product quality, design, etc. i do not like everything about them, like limited hardware.

but i do like apple more than microsoft. that's how i got into apple in the first place
 
I've used Windows ever since Windows 98 and up through the current Windows 7 RC. I also use Ubuntu, and just recently moved to OS X as my main OS. I am completely indifferent to Microsoft and Apple. I couldn't care less about either of them. If they make products that I like and can use, I'll pay for them. Steve Jobs nor Bill Gates have ever put money directly in my hands, nor am I being consulted by them for advice, so the worship of them (especially Jobs) by many comes across as extremely pathetic to me. To me, Apple is a company that makes some great products, and some not so great products, but they're still a business like every other - they're out to make as much money off of you as possible.

Let me get this straight: You think it's a con because they can pay a team of R&D peeps to come up with good ideas and then, Lo! they actually have the nerve to go protect their discovery? :confused: :rolleyes:

...and overpriced is the subject of much debate. :)

Why don't you go to sturgis and yell motorcycles suck? Let us know how it turns out for you.
 
Come on folks .... get a life! The Mac is a computer, a tool to do a job, not a mistress! The company is just a corporation who answers to its stockholders. It has good design and good support for its products. It is not a Capitalist versus the poor masses thing. I use their products because they have been dependable. If people like their iPods, so what? This is a Mac forum and you are trolling for all the negative comments you can generate. Why, I ask !
 
I've had a fan break on me, a CD drive that wasn't working replaced, a screen with dirt behind the LCD replaced, a CD drive replaced because the replacement wouldn't accept CD's, I've had my power cable replaced because the light didn't light up. I've had my battery replaced out of warranty to fix the power cable that wasn't working. In about a week (when finals are over), I'm headed back to the Apple store to get a new power cable as the light on it still doesn't work.

Oh yeah, and I was in a shouting match for about 1/2 an hour with an Applecare supervisor.

This is the worst support I've ever had on a product that's broken more often than it should.

Why am I supposed to like Apple again?
