Because DED is little more than a super-biased Apple shill. Anything written by him is nothing more than propaganda and usually skews or hides the truth if it doesn't fit his agenda.
And AppleInsider and its forums fit well for DED. They compliment one another's fanaticism. I would never use either when trying to validate a point.

IOS has bloatware as well with that logic

Some people simply refuse to call apps what Apple forces upon you (and you can't delete or even put inside of a folder to hide it) bloatware. They believe that since it doesn't come from a carrier that it is okay. I would counter that the pre-installed apps from Apple are actually worse, since iOS prevents you from deleting or even disabling those apps. No matter what, those apps like Newstand will always and forever take up not only storage space, but also precious screen real-estate in the form of an ugly icon.
I hate this about iOS. For f#$ks sake Apple, at least let me hide or disable these apps. I don't need a mandatory calculator app!

That's ludicrous. Daniel is one of the most respected tech writers in the business today. To call him biased and a shill is revolting.

While I hate the crapware that AT&T put on my HTC One (M7), it isn't enough to make me want to switch back to iOS. I love the customization of Android.

Cool, that you believe that, but got news for you. DED is loved by AppleInsider and Apple enthusiast websites, but outside of those circles his articles are viewed for what they are; Propogandized editorials with manipulated content to pander to the iFaithful.

If this offends you, then please move on. If you can't even see that the article posted in this very thread is a completely and obvious bad editorial, then I suggest you reread it with an open mind and eyes open. I'll give you just a few quotes that show how biased the article is:
After Android Honeycomb tablets (led by Motorola) dramatically flopped in 2011, Google shifted to the cheaper, smaller strategy of Samsung's original Tab. Google failed to find success in a problematic partnership with Asus, then jumped to partner with Samsung while still finding tablet success elusive.

Samsung has also struggled to sell tablets on its own, although it has boosted its phone sales by appealing to customers with handsets paired with a nearly-tablet sized screen. With Apple widely believed to be designing larger iPhone models, Samsung has scrambled to identify the "next big thing" to maintain its sales volumes, most recently arriving at smartwatches.
We call this writing opinions as though they are fact. Damn the truth. Truth don't sell.

Google demands Samsung fall in line
Samsung's Tizen threatens to cut Android in half
We call this sensationalist writing. Apparently the Nexus 7 wasn't a success? Maybe DED believes that, but he lives in his own little world.

Google's bullying hostility to outside partners has not worked in the company's favor. After seeking to appropriate TV networks' content and add its own advertising in Google TV, broadcasters blocked their content from the device, helping to condemn the flawed product to failure.

Banks, carriers and other firms similarly balked at supporting the company's self-serving plans for NFC and Google Wallet, helping to turn the ambitious project into a total fiasco.
Google's 'bullying'? A bully implies 'my way or the hiway'. More sensationalist writing.
And NFC and Google Wallet a 'total failure'? Really? Maybe DED should go to his local Best Buy, CVS, Walgreens, McDonalds, Burger King, 7-11 or maybe take a look at SE Asia and Europe to see the 'failure' that is NFC. As for Google Wallet? To call it a failure is to not comprehend what Google Wallet is and how much it has added in it's short 2 years.

I agree with a prev poster that Google is also ruining Android with all their unnecessary bloatware themselves. It is becoming Google service app-centric. I find it ironic that Google is trying to unify and act more like Apple as of late with certain restrictions and superior design language like Material while Apple is starting to open up iOS with app extensions and third party keyboards.

I think this Mi 3 I have is ruined by a buggy MIUI 5 but also KitKat 4.4 app incompatibility or strange app force closes or bugs. There are entire threads dealing with people upgrading to KK which ruined their phone. My M7 is still on 4.1.2 JB & Sense 5 and is far more rock solid stable and smoother with a faster and more fluid touch response. I'm not sold on KitKat being that much better than Jelly Bean. At least my Mi 3 has nearly double screen time battery at 9-10 hrs. Been surfing on 3G and watching videos for over 2 hrs, and batt still says 80%.

Hello Team,

Is anybody else switching to iOS until manufactures and carriers(Verizon), stop utterly ruining phones by installing bloatware and copies of google services that aren't as good(samsung). As much as I like android its getting frustrating that all the devices must at least be rooted before you can even make your phone usable. I think that google should do something because its really ruining the android experience.

thanks for reading

I don't understand why you don't just buy a Nexus handset? I agree, the rubbish on top of Android is frustrating, as is the delayed firmware releases, but since going to Nexus it's all tickedy-boo.

----------

Yes but Nexus 5 is a pure garbage though. Yes i have one.

How funny, I think it's an absolutely fantastic phone.

Interesting I guess the folder I have called "Stuff" that I have placed all of the apps that I don't use, like Game Center, clock, weather, etc must be my imagination. Never do they scrape my eyeballs
Do you even own an IPhone??

That could still be considered bloat, and is unremovable.. I believe that is his point. System apps on android can be removed without breaking the OS.

Don't use the apps you don't want. All they do (unless you set them up) is use some extra space. Same as unused IOS apps except on Android you call them bloatware.

Unless your handset is running out of space then what's the problem?

He posted "even put inside of a folder to hide it)" which is just wrong. Unless you root, many Samsung apps can't be removed and if disabled will reinstall/update on their own.

Yes that is true, but it is possible, where it is not if you want functioning ios.

IMO I wouldn't call ios or stock android products with bloat, just saying

Please read my post more carefully. Matter what you do, you are forced to keep Apple bloat as an eyesore on your screen. Be it the app icon or a folder of those app icons. And then there is New stand that Apple won't even let you put in a folder. It must remain as an eyesore forever.

Incorrect. Disable apps and change settings in play store to not auto-update.

And now we have carriers 'allowing' people to delete the bloat. Verizon is allowing new buyers of the LG G3 to delete all the carrier crap-apps.

No, they cannot auto-update if being disabled. In fact, none of apps can't auto-update themselves (even Google apps) unless you specifically grant them in Play store settings.

To each his own.

I left iOS for Android because (to me) it's become boring. I'm really hoping to see something groundbreaking out of Apple in future releases.

In the meantime, I'm really happy with my N5.

I do agree with Shanghaichica even though I love my Nexus 5, but it's too "vanilla". I miss some features from my old Galaxy S4.

You guys are saying Android is being ruined, then you've never seen iOS 7-8. Never used Android but the new iOS's design is terrible sadly. Function wise it's an improvement however.

Sorry but you are wrong. On my S5 I would delete updates and disable chaton, allshareplay, and a couple of other Samsung apps. Within 2 or three days updates for the apps would show Chaton and allshareplay would install on their own.

Yes. I remembered ChatOn and Allshareplay. I disabled them and they wouldn't show up but kept asking for update in Play store. However, I ignored them and they're still being disabled not update themselves. Check your Play store settings. If you set 'auto update' then they would update themselves.
