Anybody switch from the 6S+ to S7 Edge?

Was a long term Android guy, but switched over to a 64GB 6 Plus. I'm now since on T-Mobile and have jump on Demand. Was thinking about trying out the S7 Edge, then jump back to the iPhone 7. Some points:

- The screen and camera seem like a definite step ahead of the 6s+
- I like stock Android, but a theme+launcher could go a long way
- I like the water-resistance
- The smaller device size for the same size screen
- I'm equally invested in both the iOS and Android ecosystems
- My 6s+ is only 16GB
- I don't really use 3D Touch

However:
- I like iMessage.
- I regularly FaceTime, and love night shift and content blockers
-I don't game on my phone. When I last checked, most iOS apps were better than their Android equivalents.
- I don't have a MacBook, but will within the next 4 months or so

And honestly, it's just something different to try out for a short period. The battery life being comparable to the 6s+ per reviews is what has me tempted too. I love my 6s+ though. Anybody make the switch or own both devices?

I went from an iPhone 5s to a Moto X 2015 to a Galaxy S7 Edge now, so not exactly what you asked. But if you're worried about TouchWiz, don't be. You can disable most of the stuff Samsung adds, though a lot of it is useful and nice to have.

As far as looks go, you can download the majority of Google's apps, including the Google Now Launcher, to get the look of stock Android for the majority of the phone. That pretty much leaves the lockscreen, notification shade, task switcher, and settings looking like Samsung's version.

The lockscreen and task switcher already look almost exactly like stock Android, though the task switcher has a nice "CLOSE ALL" button. I'm not sure about other carrier or international versions, but the Verizon Galaxy S7 Edge has the settings all on one page (as opposed to AT&T's that has a tabbed menu view). Samsung has a theme store built in that lets you change the look of your phone (not just the launcher) so you can choose a Material Design theme and make it look very close to stock Android. That's what I did.

TouchWiz used to be really ugly, and I can still tell it's not a Nexus since there are some minor differences, but this actually looks nice with a Material theme and Google apps replacing most of Samsung's built in apps. And Samsung actually offers nicer clock, calendar, and camera apps than Google does.

Nope would never buy a Samsung phone if I would switch back Android. I tried to switch back over the last few months by getting the 6P (3 times LOL) but each time I just couldn't do it mainly because of the reasons you mentioned.

Also all my banks now support Apple Pay where as on Android Pay none of my banks are supported and my main bank has expressed they have no plans to support Android Pay. The service has been out 7 months already.

And what bank do you have? I don't know about other banks, but Capital One lets you pay with its app, so you don't even need Android Pay. I really wish they would open up to Samsung Pay, though. That's the only phone payment service I would ever use.

If your bank has support for Samsung Pay, it's far superior to Apple Pay. I had a 6s for a week, but have an S7 Edge now and I admit that from time to time it does lag, but the display is better than the 6s+ display, better camera, especially with the display to body ratio and edge display, plus it looks a lot better. The only plus for the iPhone is iMessage, but why not just text them instead? Especially if you don't have a Mac.

I'm in the same position. Love the Edge design and features. Longtime iPhone lover too. Can't have both!

I've switched to the edge 3 times but after a while when my partner starts getting group text messages and I'm not included I feel left out and realise that I cannot live without iMessage. It's native and built in thus people don't need to go out, download an app and register. It just works.

However, I'm bored of my iPhone and iOS. I want more and the hardware on the Edge is simply better than the iPhone 6s Plus. Apple really need to step up their game and stop riding the people will buy it wave. That will only go so far.

I'm so glad I'm not tied to iMessage like other people. Any group chat I'm part of is a regular group text, so I don't have to miss out by switching platforms.

Samsung is having issues with their camera as posted on the AndroidCentral forum, and its a darn bear to find a curved screen protector. Over all, its one of their best phones yet. Hope they get better.

What made you go with the 6s in the end? Funny, I've thought about doing the same since having the edge. The 6s plus is big and ugly but the battery is fantastic.

The reason I would do it would be for the superior screen and camera. The battery would be comparable. Water resistance, larger internal storage would be nice. Otherwise, the lack of iMessage, Facetiming and content blockers would be the biggest bane.

Yes. I'm not going to root the GS7, and I'm not going to use a janky third party browser either.

You can use Firefox, it's anything but janky. It's fast and has a ton of add-ons. I use it with uBlock Orgin add-on.

I'll give it a try - but I'm definitely wary, as everytime I've attempted to switch from stock or chrome on an Android device, it was definitely a worse experience. Granted, it's been 1.5 years ago at this point.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised this time around. I've quit using FF for about 2 years, cause it was too buggy and lagged. But now it's a complete differ story. I still favor the Chrome UI though.

I have both, your reasons for switching make sense, the camera and screen are better in my opinion. While the battery is good and the best I have tried on android, its not as good as 6S+ for my usage.

The Galaxy Nexus was a Nexus. And that was like 5 years ago. So much has changed since then.

I switched from 6 to S7 Edge. I even got rid of my Apple Watch Sport and got a Gear 2. Loving everything. So much customization with Android and it's just an awesome phone. Oh and got the Gear VR which is amazing. I still have my iPad Air 2 and the new Apple TV which suits me fine. I just wanted something new and exciting for a phone. The iPhone was the same old - same old. Not really much more can be done with it. This is just a whole new world for me and I still have my "old world" with my iPad. Gave the wife the iPhone 6.

FYI the stock browser allows for ad blockers on the S7E. Makes internet browsing much smoother.

I really enjoyed my Galaxy Nexus. You got the benefit of Nexus with lots of custom roms available at these times. I like Samsung phones (apart from S6) but I hate Samsung customer service.

I did like my GNex LOL cause it was the most fun I had being on Android. I was a flash addict switching between Liquid, CM and one other one I can't remember right now almost weekly. The battery life was just awful though haha.

When the SE was announced, I was thinking of it as a perfect phone for me because of the style and size, but after some consideration, and holding the 6s and 5s together, I made the switch to the 6s for its slightly bigger size, which can still be slipped into ones pocket, the screen, f/2.2 rear facing camera and TouchID. I do some stair climbing and like the Barometer, but no a game changer. Played with my speakers on the old 5s and have noticed the 6s is slightly better.

Battery life on the SE is very good, but so is my 6s, for the limited time I use it.
