Will definitely not buy this.
Samsung hasn’t learned after Note 7. CNET just showed the Fold screen failing after 120k opens vs the claimed 200k Samsung put out.

kind of ridiculous Samsung wants to charge $150 for a new screen after your first break too. As if they are doing you a favor after spending $2k.

120k folds @ 150 folds per minute.
Considering the heat involved in a test that rapid, I'd say the 200k under normal circumstances is valid if not understated.

Good point. It does seem to test usage that will never occur in normal use.

Is that not the same as Apple ?

ie $199 for AC+ and $29 = $228/$1000 approx but you do get 2 goes for another $29 :)

So you think Apple doing you a favour LOL

Add in a AC+, pair of pods, a case and your not far off the price of a Fold for essentially a 3 year old format

Except an iPhone screen isn’t going to be damaged if I press harder than the force of a feather or scratch it with my fingernail.

The better question is how much will the second screen repair cost?

Equally the better question is why is not AC included with your Iphone if it's constructed of quality materials and components

Apple do not stand by their products any longer than any other OEM for durability

I agree the FOLD may well be more vulnerable to damage by the user but that's why it's 1st replacement subsidy is included in the box, it's not with Apple

Apple does not need to do this to sell the phone. The subsidy is there because they know it's not selling. It's the same logic with Korean cars and their warranties vs Japanese vehicles.

I'm sorry I disagree with the analogy as the FOLD is "relatively" in high demand and hard to get hold of :)

The bundle is part of the concierge package of a complete device opposed to Apples non bundle

It's part of the Apple grab who sell you a premium device that's you may feel, due to clever marketing, is not quite premium or complete if you do not buy all the extra addon's etc that in turn entrap you further via your wallet because of lack of cross platform use amongst others.

Unfortunately Apple do need to sell AC as it's part of the extra $B they turnover that investors expect etc

According to Samsung! lol. I want some of what you’re smoking.

All of those incentives are no more than desperate attempts to save face and put glitter on a terd. Sammy HAS to give them to bribe anyone to try this ridiculously priced beta project for gullible guinea pigs.

LOL indeed

No one is under any illusion that Samsung expects to sell 10's of millions of these devices further more it's typical of Samsung to offer bundles to earlier adopters on new releases

But if it makes you feel better carry on

I honestly hope Sammy DOES sell millions and drives Apple towards further innovation with better values--I have no dog in this fight.

I'm simply laughing at your stipulation that the fold is in "'relatively' high demand" and is therefore hard to get a hold of.

Relatively in if they have only run off a few 100,000s and available in a few countries demand and scarcity will be there :D

By Apple sales a spit in the ocean of course :)

I think is some release press it was mentioned a run of 1M but who knows

Finally the Fold pre-order has arrived for the Fold in KL so I popped down to the mall for a closer look :)

I have got to say the reviews generally gave a slight or lack of true feeling of the Fold

I was expecting a half house brick when folded and a disappointing real estate size unfolded

They did get the front screen right it does seem small by today's standards yet it has an appealing clarity a bit like the old 14" CRT tubes vs the 28" of the day :)

When folded the thickness is not as noticeable as one may think due to the narrowness, it seems appealingly grippy and not as heavy as one may think. In the front trouser pocket other than weight it is less noticeable due to the narrow aspect ratio than say a Note 10+ or Iphone 11 Max would be and jeans pockets is likely to be even better

Personally the front screen is the best AO/Notification screen available being separate customisation to main screen, sure trying to use it in anger as a main screen would be tiresome and best left to short interaction tasks and I think has been overly criticised

Flip it open and you are presented with a screen not dissimilar in size say to a Google Home Hub. The experience is wonderful and makes you want to consume content and read all those things you have put aside to your laptop or catch up on some videos

I was surprised how quickly the seam vanished, the home and back button was right biased on the demo unit but customisation is there as too the edge interaction is different to the normal Galaxy's

I hope they will allow a fixed custom set default 3 multi screen options ie 1 for messaging email/Line/Whatsapp or your chosen poison :) and then say another option of 3 etc so you can flip through your presets

Sure it's an arm and a leg to buy but if it can eliminate say a small tablet and the buds come bundled it becomes more palatable other than endurance of the screen and OS preference

I would much rather use an iPad Pro and a nice keyboard case. The fold is such a gimmick, IMO.

Yeah but if you're able to drop the need for buying a tablet in the process the plus also dropping the need to be buying any wireless (and wireless charging) headphones in the one swoop the $2K doesn't look so much. $2K - price of a tablet - price of wireless headphones < price of an iPhone.

there’s no need to buy wireless headphones for an iPhone. They give you a set of non wireless in the box and you can get an adaptor to use any headphones you like. this is some mental gymnastics you’re doing to justify the purchase.

I can’t disagree more on the point Apple doesn’t stand by there products more than any other OEM. I’ve had a few out of warranty repairs compeleted by Apple free of charge and I’ve yet to find a company that does customer service anywhere near to the standard they do.

It's nice to hear a good luck repair but for everyone one like yours the opposite can easily be found

I'm not knocking Apple customer service which can be very good in some countries and just a mail in service in others

The bottom line is Apple warranty is no better than any other OEM you get 1 year. The premium you pay for an Apple product with quality parts etc gives you no more entitlement to repair than anyone else and for many no better support or service

Live in US/UK/AUS and a few other counties and you may have the added convenience of multiple Apple stores to assist etc. However many don't and forget about 14 days or more return polices etc yet many pay the same or more for their Iphones as the few lucky counties
