I have been an iPhone user since they came out on Verizon in 2011. I'm strongly considering switching over to the samsung galaxy fold. I wonder how decently it would pair with a MacBook Pro?

Anyone else considering switching to Galaxy Fold?

If your phone’s got more RAM than your MacBook Pro, yet can’t run VMs, DAWs and video editing in isolation (let alone simultaneously), that rings alarm bells for me — both of the OS it runs and its usefulness at its price tag.
Honestly if you’re looking to get an Android device, that’s fine. But the Fold really looks clumsy in its infancy.
At the very least, it would be prudent to wait for real-world reviews of the product before making an early commitment to purchase it.

You can run all those things just fine on a galaxy fold. Samsung phones can run a full version of Linux in their Dex mode. And allow you to plug a full keyboard, mouse, and monitor into them.
They also just announced that they have partnered with Adobe to bring a version of Premier to their phones.
Pretty sci fi stuff.
To OP I really want to get the fold, but my concerns about the durability, and the price are overwhelming my desire to be the first guy on the block with a folding phone. My main issue above all is the small screen on the front though. I assume that is going to look a little janky, and be limiting to work with.
That being said today is a inflection point. It is pretty hard to deny that we are living in the future with products like this going to market.
I will get the Fold 2 5G next year.
Never buy an Alpha product. Doesn't matter who the manufacturer is. Wait until we see reviews. This thing could be really bad.

I concur with @AustinIllini. It's a product priced well above the unit construction and R&D cost through extrapolation. It's not meant to sell in record numbers. In the same manner I don't believe Apple sells many iPad Pro 12" models that are maxed out in options.
Even Samsung teaming up with Adobe to develop their app suite for the Fold isn't enticing enough. For me, it's a cool idea. Very cool, but the form factor when folded up is a major hangup for me. I'm more inclined to drop $1,300 on a Samsung S10+ or 5G model with a 1 TB drive space than this.

Well, in a literal sense, it doesn't pair with the MBP. You can basically install Smart Switch to backup and restore, and Android File Transfer to drag n drop file back n forth. But there are no continuity services like iPhone has with MacOS.
Yeah, don’t switch to Android if you want MacBook integration. The Google apps run in the cloud, but a Mac and an android device don’t really play friendly
I think it's really cool, but most likely just frustrating to use until generation 3 or so. So tough price to pay, and have concern on slow software updates just to update the thing.
It's a luxury device. If you've got money laying around go for it. And, don't listen to people comparing it to a children's iPad 2018.
Maybe the third iteration of it. It’s very cool and I want one, but I don’t want to pay $2000 for something that probably has a lot of growing pains to go through. But between this and the S10 series I am very tempted to finally dump my iPhone 7+ for a new Samsung model.
I'd have to see what the reviews are. I'm at least going to creepy stalk it at Best Buy.

My husband said he’s actually going to get this phone. I was suprised. However he said that he wants to wait until his note 8 contract elapses first in August.

Yep, I do. If it can match the Battery Life of my Mate 20 Pro, I'll be looking into either getting the Galaxy Fold or Galaxy Note10.
With this being the first proper Foldable device, I think I will wait for the 2nd or 3rd Generation when the technology is more mature though. I get the feeling this 1st Gen will probably have some issues both in Software and Hardware.
I'm definitely considering it, although I'm extremely weary of switching back to Android. Very cool looking device.

I'd wait for the reviews to come out to be honest. I usually wouldn't buy a gen1 device, I usually wait till gen2/3. I mean in Canada this would be priced at $2600 with the current rate of our dollar . To much for a gen1 device, not to mention who knows how apps are going to be optimized for it when it comes out.

I don't know why, but I am tempted. I understand all of the drawbacks of the device, and there are a lot. But still tempted, probably because it is something different.
