I'm Actually on Verizon and I've been waiting since my contract was up since the 3GS was announced.

If I decided to leave the iPhone for an Android phone...you would never know because I would feel no need to make attention-whoring posts about it on an iPhone forum.

I was, but i stopped counting today, they finally turn 3g on in my city. Unless Verizon can beat their prices.

Quite simply put, if AT&T put the effort into NY & SF that they did at SXSW they would not have nearly as many complaints as they do now. These two places are the highest percentages of iPhone buyers in the country if not of any worldwide city.

The problem is clearly AT&T management because they have the funds and the ability. Thosetwo places should be there highest priority.

So they improved it everywhere else, but forgot to address NYC and SF? It is more likley there are unique challenges in those to cities.

There was an article about these two cities and how each on of them presents a very difficult challenge. AT&T has to comply with certain limits the city, county and state has with respect to wireless RF exposure to the general population. As well, as AT&T has to accommodate to geological (in SF's case) and man made (NY case) advantages and disadvantages. Also, factor in the small amount of spectrum left, and pretty much they are tied down.

FCC is running like crazy to get more spectrum towards carriers (AT&T) right now to sorta fix up the mess.

with the ipad coming out I am thinking of going full time with verizon. I already have their mifi so I might get an ipad and a verizon phone. not sure yet though.

Have had my cell number since 1986/87?. The original service was called Cellular One . . . Then Cingular . . . Now, AT&T. Switch? . . . Ummm . . . I'll need to think about it for a second ot two.

Okay . . . . No!

AT&T is the best company I've used. Never have they made any mistakes with my bills. Always have a good 3G connection wherever I am at. Just pretty expensive compared to other companies. Since they carry the iPhone, of course I'm always going to stay with them.

I use my iPhone 3Gs around 4,000 minutes a month. I travel all over the US photographing weddings and actually envy someone that lives in a good AT&T coverage area. Living in California's Napa Valley AT&T is clearly the worst carrier of the bunch. The coverage 'holes' in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Seattle, Portland, and Washington, D.C., are all still there after 12 years of AT&T saying they are constantly expanding their network. Even in the small towns of Wisconsin, the coverage remains poor and in my area it has actually degraded. If the iPhone comes out on another carrier AT&T will be happy to have you as they will be loosing millions of subscribers that do not have your experience. I read that 1/3 of iPhone owners came from other carriers and I personally know people that won't buy an iPhone because it's AT&T. Even before the iPhone came out we knew AT&T was going to be the weak link in the chain. Go to youtube and listen to the iPhone song, you'll see what I mean.

As for the billing, there have been no problems for cellular but the land lines are another matter entirely.

Actually, if you read well, you will find that AT&T's network problems started with the iPhone 3G and not the 1st Gen iPhone.

1st Gen iPhone users barely complained about service. We mostly complained about the lack of apps, GPS and other gimmicks. Once people got 3G (which was in baby stages), there was a bigger target. However, those with 3G coverage got it good since their experience was flawless and for the vast majority it still is.

Please, 3G is terrible on AT&T. jeffreydavila stated it perfectly.

late last year AT&T got pretty bad in NYC, but with 3.1.3 and the upgrades it's now almost twice as fast as my SDSL and in some cases twice as fast. for a while my speedtests were in the dial up range and now it's 2000 - 3000 depending on location, time and day of the week. and manhattan is faster than the outer boroughs a lot of times as well

Verizon't data network is a lot slower so there is no reason to switch

2000-3000??? I'd love to know where. Internet connection has always been more reliable in Brooklyn (I probably couldn't have lived with the iPhone in Manhattan) and the most I still get is in the 700-800 range.

That said, things have slowly gotten better in the last year - biggest difference so far is Union Square. I spent all last Tuesday afternoon there and kept connection which was definitely not the case before.

I have a cheap Verizon dumbphone as well and am finally eligible to renew, but I expect I'll ride out my jailbroken 3GS and see what the situation is this time next year.

I've had issues with inconsistent 3G coverage, but I've been making sure to use the Mark the Spot app as much as possible.

The thing that really concerns me is the future of AT&T and next gen LTE. Apparently, Verizon's already starting work on building up their 4G technology for roll out within the next year or so, while AT&T is dragging their knuckles on improving their 3G network. By the time LTE becomes the standard, AT&T will need to play catch up again.
