That can go either way. They’ll ramp down production and clear inventory of the current models. Some people hate faceid. The ones who they lose (no IPP sales) get converted into the new arguably more expensive model.
The flip side is worse I think. Without an announcement potential buyers will compare the current 329 iPad with pencil to the current 10.5 and think they look the same. Sales will gravitate to the lower end model at lower margins.
Those who would buy a laptop to complement an IPP will still do the same. It’s a wash.
Those thinking of either IPP or a laptop will check the IPP idea (current model) and go to a laptop. Risky move. The laptop line is ***** right now, they might lose sales to win 10.
Many variables to balance but I think all in all it makes sense to announce in June and ship before back to school.
