Anyone else have problems after switching from iPhone to android and getting texts?

I am always switching back and forth between iPhone and Samsung IMO those are the top dogs. Well I just bought the Galaxy s8 (monster by the way) and I am having a lot of trouble with texts not working. I signed out of iCloud and iMessage like everyone says to do when I google the issue and I even went as far as bringing my phone down to Sprint because the issue still wasn't resolved.

They reset the network settings and all that but I am still having issues with certain people I am not receiving texts from. In a few instances I've had to have some people download Whatsapp or other alternative messaging apps just so they could contact me. It's annoying having to go through this everytime I switch devices so I am wondering if there is perhaps an easy fix for this. Also is there any way to recover all the missed texts I may have gotten during the whole situation?

I've solved this issue by not activating iMessage anymore when swapping the SIM into my iPhone. Well, iMessage does nothing if your friends don't use it. Even though my wife also has an iPhone, we use mostly Facebook Messenger for communication. That's mostly due to the mess that was caused by iMessages arriving hours late at one point. Sure it was an isolated incident, but as the trust was gone, we just stuck to using an alternative app.

Back when I had a 4 (before iMessage) and my friend had a sprint android she would receive texts from me at random (some immediately sometimes the next day).When I switched from the 5 to the HTC One on Verizon I had issues with receiving texts late (sometimes an hour, sometimes a day, one time a week.) I always thought it might be related to Verizon and Apple, until I switched to t-mobile. I switched to t-mobile and got a Nexus 5. Same exact problems, would get texts sometimes immediately, sometimes an hour late, sometimes not even the same day, and sometimes they wouldn't come at all. After awhile I honestly just believe that Android does not manage texts well.

The best fix is just to use something other than imessage. The constant enabling and disabling of imessage is bound to have issues.

I've run into this before. If turning off iMessage doesn't do it nor going to this LINK and de-registering, then your number will likely be trapped in iMessage pergatory. It sucks but has happened to me before. Hopefully yours isn't stuck though and just need to be de-registered via the link above.

Android is really cool, but it seems to forget that at it's heart it's supposed to be a phone. I think Apple really does the balance of the simplicity of communication and the advanced capabilities of the smartphone perfectly. Yeah my home screen is kind of boring, but i'm not staring at it all day. I used to have time to sit down all day and customize my phone and change my keyboard font and banner color just because, but life gets busy and now I just want something that simplifies my life instead of complicating it.

As much as I enjoy iOS and iMessage, this has been a longstanding issue switchers have had to deal with and the blame falls entirely on Apple. I switch back and forth to Android periodically (re: one year or so) and the advice @co.ag.2005 gives below has always worked fine for me (turn off iMessage on ALL Apple devices and remove phone number, turn of iMessage on the iPhone, deregister at the link he provided) but you don't have search long to find tons of horror stories pertaining to this issue.

If you do plan to switch back and forth regularly, sadly, the advice to just keep iMessage off is probably the best advice.

I've run into this before. If turning off iMessage doesn't do it nor going to this LINK and de-registering, then your number will likely be trapped in iMessage pergatory. I've had an issue once. Did everything mentioned above and still nothing. It turned out getting fixed, by getting my friends and family to delete their iMessage conversations with me on their phones/devices. Then when they would text me, it would go right through my normal text service. So if you can, tell people to delete conversations on their end.

for me, it's the ability to send/receive high resolution videos and photos via text (iMessage) with my rather large, spread out family who all also own iPhones. No one in my family uses Whatsapp since iMessage does what we all need. Now, when I'm on android, that changes up how we have to do things. I have the S8+ now and am going to get my immediately family to install whatsapp to help with the video sharing bit (I use Google Photos links, but when they want to share, it's a different story). This is my use case on why iMessage is very useful. I know others don't see it that way. YMMV.

Naturally if more or less everyone you know has an iPhone, iMessage has a solid use case and edge. However, in my case friends who are still on iPhone are getting fewer and fewer, so iMessage isn't any kind of a factor in my purchase decision. You should buy whatever fits your intended use.

yep. Unfortunately for me, about 98% of the people I text/message the most have iPhones. I just wish Whatsapp was as popular in the states as it is in other parts of the world.

but yes, I buy what I want. I pre-ordered the 7+ and loved that phone (still do) but the GS8 tempted me away. I think I've owned about 3 dozen android devices and almost every iPhone... yes, I have a problem (as many on this forum do too )

not really, i mainly use whatsapp. Imessage is quite low down on my list in terms of important features.

Try sending a high resolution picture or a video via text message.... Or have someone send you one..... When I used an android for a short period of time I tried several text messaging apps and it was a horrific experience... from people not receiving my messages to having to resort to 3rd party apps for sending some pictures and any videos.

With imessage it's all seamless, i don't even have to think about it, I just send whatever I want and since 99% of the people I communicate with have iPhones it works out perfectly.

Ah, now it all makes sense. Strictly technically speaking you can't really send a picture or video as a text message as they are two completely different protocols. The original SMS was the actual text message protocol which delivered text only as it dates back to really primitive phone displays. As it's delivering text only, it's typically rock solid. However, when camera phones got popular, people wanted to send those pictures and a separate protocol - MMS - was created for that purpose. Unlike the ultra-reliable SMS, MMS is an epic bag of hurt which can fail in numerous ways and often does. And if you're lucky enough to get a picture through to the recipient, its resolution is typically butchered to more or less useless.

I was told to call Apple. They have to release the phone number from their system. I don't remember the exact order of events but it happened to me. Had something to do with th number being attached to iMessage.

I see. I can understand the benefit in that case. I usually send large images or videos via email or share them via the cloud. I have at least as many friends and family who use Android phones as iPhones.

I swap frequently too.. best solution is to disable iMessage altogether as posted by Roadstar.

Most of my friends/family now use WhatsApp so iMessage is irrelevant for my use case. WhatsApp is great IMO.

SMS feels ancient once you get used to imessage. Messages come in instantly, they are on my iPad/Mac, you can see when someone is typing and great group messages.

For whatever reason I always had issues. Especially group messages. And I have always had a flagship Samsung phone. iMessage has always been reliable for me.

I agree. Right now I am running an iPhone daily and have a few Samsung Android tablets.
