If I was only/mostly used an iPad on a desk, I'd get the 12.9" no question. But it's really weighty at the extra half pound when holding it in your hands like a magazine, also way too big and unwieldily to use it in a relaxing manner on a couch or chair. The point of the iPad for me is to be something that is ultra portable with long battery, so that means it can't be too heavy or big like a MacBook Pro can be

I would be surprised if there is any slimming down of the size or weight of the 12.9. I would NOT be surprised if the 2nd gen 12.9 Pro will be the last one of that form factor.

Having seen the footprint overlays, the 10.5 is every so slightly larger than the 9.7 and far smaller than the 12.9. I think that there will be a comparable REDUCTION from the 12.9 form factor. Somewhere around 11.7.

Obviously these are nothing more than ramblings of one who is on their 5th cup of coffee of the morning. :)
I've always felt that if Apple had released a just-under 12" iPad Pro rather than a just-under 13", it would've sold in greater numbers because it was easier to handle. Look at the superior portability of the 12" MacBook vs. the 13" MacBook Air. I briefly owned the MacBook (but returned it because I could not tolerate that tiny screen resolution), and holding it in one hand, and the 12.9" iPad Pro in the other, it was clear that the MacBook goes right up to the edge of handling and portability, while the iPad Pro goes over it.

I cancelled my 10.5 order and switched to the 12.9, but I'm one of the few people here who is getting this mainly to be used as a digital sketchbook (I'm a freelance illustrator) and I realized that 10.5 is just too cramped for that. I wish there was an 11.5.
[doublepost=1496976397][/doublepost]By the way. This is what I used to help me decide if the size worked for me. This site shows the actual size (on a monitor that is big enough to fit). You need to know the size of your monitor and set it to that so it's accurate.

I have other large tablets 12+ inches and I'm always propping them up on something or laying them flat. I love the screens, but I'm going for the 10.5 for the sake comfort while reading. I will use it to take notes from time to time during meetings at work, but I wont really be multi tasking.

I ordered the 12.9" to upgrade from my 9.7" IPP. You will be surprised to know tho, that as a small female, the 9.7" was awkward for me to hold as I handheld it in bed to read. For that reason, several months ago, I had hubby make me a very lightweight hinged at top, holder for my 9.7". Works liie a charm and it will hold the 12.9" fine too. Any other use that I have will be flat on a table. The very rare occassions I have for use when travelling, I use my iphone 7+.

If I were going bigger, I’d actually prefer the Surface Pro 12.3in size over the iPad Pro 12.9. That’s really the only other device in mind other than the 10.5 iPad Pro for me right now. Alas, it won’t get an LTE chip until fall.

I'd be interested in a pic of the holder.

Tell me an easy way to attach a photo on this forum and I will, never dont that here before. Want an easy way like other forums i.e. Attach file from camera roll option rather than using something like photobucket.

Very easy. Hit “Upload a File” and on iOS you have multiple options, including choosing a photo from the camera roll.

My bad, did not even see Upload a File, so thanks for you polite response.
Anyway, here is the photo. Looks very crude in tye photo so maybe I need to paint it. It measures 10" high x 12" wide, but because it has no edge, will hold the 12.9" fine. I loooove it. Hinged top, just a small metal hinge on both sides at top allows you to angle it any way you need. Very thin wood so very lightweight.

Thanks! So you basically lay down or sit leaned back on the bed and can set that on your lap to hold it? I ordered the 12.9 so it will be interesting to see if the size/weight will cause me to adjust how I hold it. The only use case so far I know wont work is to lay down on my back and hold the iPad up like I do with my Mini.

I was initially going for the 10.5 as I've sold my MBP to fund it. But as I'm hoping to edit photos and also try infinity photo and along with using the Apple Pencil I thought the larger size would be just right

Yep, you can lay or sit at any angle you want, and adjust the little frame on the back of the stand.

I already use Affinity Photo on my mbp and couldnt wait for it to come to the iPad. And that is my reason for upgrading to the 12.9" from my 9.7" IPP. I also have 2 close family members that I pass my ipads to that greatly appreciate it, helps me justify a new one. And fyi, I have already tried Affinity Photo with my current 9.7" and an Apple Pencil. It is awesome!
