I'm betting on a 3rd party solution - anti-glare screen cover, 30 - 50 bucks.

And why didn't they make the entire front black?

BTW, I'm getting one glare or not. I NEED a new computer; see my sig.

Perhaps I am in the minority here, but I find it very clean and it will fit in very well in our family room.

I have been waiting for nearly a year to upgrade from our old G3, and this new iMac will fill the bill very nicely. I was more interested in the hardware than the "style" anyway.

Ya know, for all the griping about the "chin" and how "fat" the previous iMac was, there sure is a lot of complaining going on here. It still beats the hell out of the Dell's and Gateway's we have at work. If you want art, go buy art. If you want a computer, buy a Mac.

I'm just sayin'.

I don't. I don't like the black border. At all. Not a fan of 2-tone.
I like my White one better. So happy, bright, different.

Edit: Love the keyboard.

same here but it it is okay, would be better if they did skip the black border and made it in aluminum only.

love they keyboard too :D.

I think the look is growing on me, but its nothing earth shattering or a huge step-up from the old model. It seems to be another step towards a truly revolutionary design which mimics the iPhone when the technology lets them produce something like the futuristic mock-ups we've seen on here.

I was all ready to put my existing 24" on eBay and upgrade this morning, but I'm a bit underwhelmed now so will hold off for a while yet.

I'm surprisingly disappointed. I was expecting a totally new case design. Instead we get a couple new colors here and there and a thinner design. While yes, it is VERY thin, it looks so much like the old iMac. That black in the middle just isn't working. If the black wasn't there, I think I would like it much more.

Here's to a Mac Pro redesign!

Never noticed the pics of the glossy screens. Ouch!? How can they be a good thing then?

not for me

I have to say, I was JUST about to buy one for me, and one for my DAD, but the GLOSSY screens are probably going to keep me from it.

It just doesn't work for me, and might not work for him. I really HATE the glossy of the macbook, if this is like that at all, I'm out and not happy.

What was the uptake like for glossy screens on the laptops then? Most people I know specifically went for the matte screen having seen how poor the glossy ones were under certain lighting conditions?

with enough complaints.. and their timing anyway.. i'm going to hope and pray we see some tweaks (matte screen option back etc) come october or at the very lease January...

I also agree from an above post, that this is probably just a step towards later when they have the means/time/tech to produce something more of a complete redesign closer to some of the mockups we've seen. I think this is more of a "tide us over because the imac is long over due" update before a major redesign occurs.

I think it looks OK, frankly I loved the "monitor on a stick" iMac design but what matters most to me is what's under the hood. I'll be using it in a basement so glare isn't an issue. Why would Apple go with only that style though? Is there some advantage to a glossy screen?

I am not feeling the Black Apple, a little too Snow Whitey  but I do have to see it in person. The keyboard seems a little pricey at $49, but I guess I have to see it in person too. But when these hit the refurb store, I will probably bite.

Not Sure

I'm gonna have to see one in person before I can decide. The first shots on the blogs this morning didn't look so hot. The ones on Apple's site, however, look pretty good.

I'm not sure. Think I'll have to see one in person.

I love the look of the keyboard, but I'm not sure whether I'd like the feel.

I don't like the continuing inaccessibility of the internal components. It sounds like the MBP is more easily accessible than the iMac.

And glossy screens must die!!!

Makes the Mac Mini a more attractive option

I had mentally prepared myself to go ahead and pull the trigger on a new iMac if the redesign and new specs were irresistible. IMO, it's nice but not irresistible. Instead, I find myself seriously considering the 2ghz C2D Mini. I already have a nice display and a wireless keyboard I love. They ain't sexy, but the refreshed Minis could represent a much better value now with C2Ds and 1gb standard. Hmmmmmm.....

I can understand why they added the Black Borders, HDTV's use this too.

My plan was always to sell my 17" 2.0GHz iMac to my brother and upgrade to a 24"...

Now I'm not sure, if I should just keep my iMac and pick up 17" HD DVD or BD Notebook. I expected more from Apple.

I really like the new design. Although it wasn't what we were all building it up to be and I was hoping (although not likely) for a Blu-Ray drive, I'm gonna make the switch once Leopard is released. I'm hoping for the slight chance of a graphics card boost when they release the OS, although I'm fairly certain they won't.
