I can't stand that it has a glossy screen! My iMac has a window right behind it, the sunlight would kill me! Not to mention the odd black border around the screen. A little too weird if you ask me. Also the keyboard sucks! Especially the wireless one! I love the simplicity of the "old" white iMacs.

While I too liked the white ones a lot, you know the Apple community would have been in even more of an uproar had they left the color scheme the same and only made it thinner. So at least they did something to it.

Long time reader, first time poster.

I've been looking forward to the new iMacs, but I'm deeply disappointed. They look old already. Looks like Apple grabbed the old iMac and said make it look like its from the 80's. Shocking. But design is not the deal breaker.

See I'm currently studying Graphic Design in Multimedia and they recommend a Mac. I currently have a PC (1900XT, 2 Gig Ram, Dell 24" LCD, Athlon 3700+). I was actually planning on getting an iMac, cause they are so easy to use and reliable. But What breaks the deal is the low performance dodgy ATI DX10 cards, but especially the GLOSSY SCREEN. I've got massive window next to me! And I ain't moving.

So it looks like I'm gonna stick with my PC and upgrade. Its cheaper and it will do the job.

If the iMac had matte LCD and Nvidia 8800 GTS, I'm all in.

By the way the keyboard is nice, but it looks like they didn't finish it.

Overall design doesn't match to me.

It looks like it will blend in quite nicely in a manufacturing plant, where there are no windows.

wow.....
where to start?!
I sold my 17" C2D in anticipation of the new believing that I would love the new one more than any of my last 6 macs.... I am on the fence.... I will have to check one out at the Apple store before I buy but I don't think I will like the glossy screen very much.... why no Matte option on at least the high end 24".
Now the question is can I wait again for October or November and see if they release a revision?????
Matte screen and I am sold!
will still probably get one anywayz.....
)

Where its way too hot.
Good combo between two of earlier mockups

All i've seen the last several days were the mockups of the cinama displays and the iphone clones. Alot of the people on here liked the plain silver cinama displays being the new imac. Some liked the enlarged iphone.:( Well, its seems they have married the two images. I personally like it better than the plain silver look. If you ask me though the white looked different than anything out there and still ahead of its time. I just purchaced one a month ago (former PC user for many, many years and have now drank the kool aid  and very happy that I did). I will be purchasing a new one in a few days and giving my wife my white one.

As far as the specs, I'm very pleased. They upgraded everything and lowered the price. Having come from the PC side, even though we could tinker with everything and max out with the lastest, greatest, video cards, ..even the best (and i've owned some of the best) configurations had lots of kinks to iron out and the systems slowed down with time (adding software drags performance over time). I've added many programs to my white 20'' imac and so far not any drag on the system and performance is better than my pc systems (even running final cut vs a high end vegas program on my pc). Some of you guys just need to chill and understand that apple is a good computer and as a whole runs better than you think. (don't use PC's to compare by. Like comparing a BMW m5 to a corvette with a 454 (8cylinidar engine) ...sure the corvette has more raw power, but the bmw will smoke it because of the better design)

hate it.

the aluminum chin stands out too much when you're trying to look at the screen.

pick one, either aluminum or black glossy plastic

NOT BOTH!

the pics on apple's site make it look ok though, still not great
but the original pics from the announcement made me cringe.

I'm all about form, not function. If a computer does what I need it to do, and is an enjoyable experience, I really don't care what it looks like. Gimme a big beige box, and I'm a happy guy if it runs like like a dream. Obviously I'm still new to the Mac family.

On the function side of things, a few things I noticed at the Apple store tonight...

I do like the black border and slightly darker color of the box. Then again, I've tried to watch a movie on a bright white iMac in the dark, and didn't like being distracted by the glowing case.

The black Apple logo is very high contrast, and could be distracting.

The glossy screen rocks in the right light conditions. It would work great in my office, but I have no lights or windows behind (or above/behind) my monitor. Movies on this screen looked incredible.

I have a glossy Gateway notebook, and absolutely hate it. I can't sit outside to work, even on an overcast day.

The downside of the glossy screen is that it could mislead designers and photo finishers... Bigtime!

After having the white iMac for so long, I kind of got tired of it. When I see the white iMac and the white MacBook, it doesn't usually catch my attention.
When the black MacBook came out and the fact that it wasn't a glossy black but a dull black body, I didn't like it at first but I do kind of like it now (not like the MacBook Pro of course).

Anyways, I love the fact that the new iMac looks just like the iPhone, specially the back of the iPhone.

Just bought one from Amazon and can't wait to get it in the mail.

I am sure Apple did a research before they created the new design. I am sure people were in between the black and the beautiful aluminum Apple uses, so they used both (my opinion).
All in all I wish they would have done a drastic change to the iMac. It looks like the previous version but different colors (and thinner of course).

I thought it was going to look totally different like when the G4 and G5 iMacs were redesigned.

I think Apple (in the near future) will come out with a white version of the iMac, keep the aluminum but instead of the black, they will use white, who knows?!?!

It is unlikely Apple would have a matte version. The glaze is really from a sheet of glass that is placed over the border and the screen, and I just cannot see how Apple is going to offer such a design in a matte configuration.

Apple, you've done it again :)

i think the black back is a big mistake , partic when it's gonna be used near a window

black absorbs heat , and with the sun beating down on it there's a chance the thing will warp or crack over time

and the front looks like a cheap 70's decimo calculator

awful

Each to there own, but I guarantee you if you showed it to the worlds top product designers, they would all agree it is a stunning piece of design.
