Anyone else out there have the same mindset? Either iPhone or Nexus... nothing else.

I was curious if anyone out there has the same mindset as I do that from now on I will only ever buy:

• iPhone
• Nexus

I recently came from an AT&T branded Note 4 and must say while I liked the hardware... the bloatware / locked bootloader / software update, or lack there of, were all pretty much crap. Waaaaay too much motivation by both OEM and the carriers to do a planned obsolesence type thing of letting phone support die off quickly in order to A) save money by not having to pay engineers to test the latest android updates and B) push customers towards upgrading to the newest hardware. The only two phone types that get real updates directly from the source (Windows Phones and Blackberries don't count ) are Nexus and iPhones.

Anyone else feel the same way? That the only phone options are Nexus or iPhones? Why do you (or don't you) feel this way?

Stock Android on an unlocked, carrier free phone or iOS for me. Sadly, until the newest Nexus phones, I couldn't rely on the Nexus hardware to offer a top level experience and is probably one of the primary reason why I continually steer back to iOS. The 6P seems to have finally changed this trend and it would absolutely be the Android phone I'd purchase.

I understand why OEMs include their own software features/skins as it's the easiest way to differentiate but I want a consistent experience when I change devices, i.e. I upgrade and set up a new device, I'm getting basically the same experience using Nexus devices.

Agree regarding Siri, and considering I believe they're opening it up to third party devs on the Apple TV, I'm optimistic we may see some changes next year. Fingers crossed.

At some point for the Androids OEMs, something has to give. Security is going to be an ongoing discussion regarding Android devices. For the time being, it seems like we can only trust the Nexus line to update their devices.

Because if you buy **** you get no or almost no software support.

If you buy iPhone you get at least 2 or 3 major updates and multiple minor updates and Apple integration you cant beat with anything.

Not my feelings at all. I have a iphone 6s plus and love the phone. But I also have had a plethora of Android phones.
Every Nexus and or stock android phone I have had are pretty much featureless. The Nexus 6 for example did not even have a battery meter. What is so great about stock? It's lack of features? You have to unlock the BL and root and flash a rom to get features that come on most other phones.

Then what OEM in their right mind puts all of their flagship phone features and efforts into another company's branded phone? That is why all Nexus phones seems to have something missing from them. Something missing that would have make them great. Whether it was camera, battery life, build quality, something is always missing.

Not all companies that make stock android phones update them regularly.....look at Motorola and Sony.

I enjoy my Note 5 and the features it has to be honest. Could it be better? Hell yeah........I wish Samsung would optimise TW more....it's a resource hog. But because of the features it does have that fit my needs......i don't miss the updates a phone like say the Nexus 6 might get.

The one and only Nexus phone that I bought and still have was the Nexus 4. I could never get more than an hours of screen time on the thing and always had a bad experience with the phone. I got tired of the bad battery life on Lollipop and went back to KitKat this week and rooted it just so I could install adaway. First time I ever rooted it, was just as easy as jailbreaking an iPhone.

Because of the crappy experience on the Nexus 4, I've been reluctant to buy another Nexus ever since. My next Android phone after the Nexus 4 was a Note 4 and Note Edge. I still use those two phones today, they aren't even a year old yet.I went back to KitKat and those and my battery life has doubled. Amazing phones on Kitkat.

I do have a iPhone 5S and a 6+ that I use daily too. Both the Samsungs and iPhone are activated on T-Mobile today.

No, I don't feel that way.

Nexus phones tend to be treated as Beta devices, they will get updates early, yes, but those updates are not always great and sometimes ruin the phone.

iPhones... Too limited for me, I'll use iOS on my tablets, not phone.

My Note 4 is on 5.1.1 and got a maintenance update the other day, its still running well and faster than ever before.

If the Note 6 brings MicroSD back or has either a 128GB or 256GB variant then I'll get it, otherwise Sony or LG will get my money.

I agree, they are featureless. Its annoying how much you have to do on your own. However, the difference is that 1. I actually own my phone and the OS running so I always have the option to change ROMs, 2. The resource management is so much better on stock and some ROMs can measure in at 1GB or less total storage space while using 300mb system RAM, 3. Stock stays true to google's design language.

The battery has been much improved from the Nexus 4. That phone was more of a test to prove to OEMs that Android was now optimized enough to run on really low quality hardware, but Google has since switched to premium hardware and high end specs, including a massive 3400mah mattery.

You can unlock the BL and root and rom a Note 5. I have to my TMO Note 5. It is running great with a custom rom and it manages memory better. But not as good as a Nexus device does.
But there is not as much development for it because it has the Exynos processor. Most devs just program for one chipset.
I don't care about staying true to Google's design language. I just want the features i need and want on my phones.

But I would very very intrigued with a Note 5 with stock Android on it. i am thinking it will be very soon that there will be Android 6 roms available for my TMO Note 5.
