Never used Nexus nor stock android, so can't comment on that. I've used Galaxy s2 and Samsung Galaxy s4.

If I wanted an iPhone, I feel my Ipod Touch 5 is "close enough". All I really do is games on there.

I've owned a Galaxy Tab10.1V which was basically a Galaxy Tab10.1 stripped of TouchWiz by Vodafone and running stock Android3.0.1 Honeycomb. The experience was 'meh'. Also played with Nexus S, Galaxy Nexurt and Nexus 5, again, wasn't impressed.

I am one of few enthusiasts who appreciates OEM skins as they add a lot of missing things in Android from top video players, and cool features like multi window, SPen suit, Call Blocking etc etc...some features are now available in Nexus, but some still aren't.

If you want to experience stock Android, just throw a Custom ROM with stock Android and GApps. I used to love tinkering with my Xperia X10, Galaxy S2 and S3, throwing stock ROMs and each time I had to hunt for apps that brought the functionality the Xperia UI and TouchWiz UI brought, to a point that I stopped.

My Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 4 have never had Custom ROMs as I got sick of stock Android and having to forever hunt for featurert the OEM had out-the-box in their UI.

I wouldn't consider an iPhone due to personal preference.

Right now, I don't know if I'd consider any other Android phone as the Nexus 6P is just so good. My previous phone was the Galaxy S3 which was one of the best phones in its time. The Nexus 6P impressed me more so than my GS3 did over its predecessor.

When it comes to my next phone in a few years, the landscape is likely going to change. That's a long ways away.

I tend to stick with Samsung because I know they'll just stuff all the latest tech into their phones.

I recently bought a pair of expensive of bluetooth headphones. Something about Samsung made me know that every bluetooth standard would be supported and I was right - They sound great. I recently bought a wireless charger - didn't even check what standard it was. Put my S6 on top of it and it just worked like I knew it would. Whenever I download movies I don't need to think about converting them as I know the Samsung media player will have all the correct codecs.

It is stuff like that that makes me appreciate Samsung handsets.

If i had an iPhone I'm stuck with trashy bluetooth audio quality. No wireless charging, slow charging times and hours spent converting files to Mp4. Other android handsets might not support the right wireless charging types, might not support Aptx, might not have the same codec support as my S6.

So when it comes to "it just works", i think Samsungs fall into that category.

Definitely not...
SD slot and removable battery are must have for me, Nexus and iPhone are both useless to that extend

Switched from iPhone 4 to Note II in late 2012. I never liked other Android skins as much as TouchWiz for some reason. I don't like the LG one, the HTC one, Motorola, etc. I don't care for pure Android either, partially because I don't like the software buttons on the bottom of the screen. Currently using the S6 edge+ and it still amazes me as far as a smartphone goes.

I was curious if anyone out there has the same mindset as I do that from now on I will only ever buy:
  • iPhone
  • Nexus
I recently came from an AT&T branded Note 4 and must say while I liked the hardware... the bloatware / locked bootloader / software update, or lack there of, were all pretty much crap. Waaaaay too much motivation by both OEM and the carriers to do a planned obsolesence type thing of letting phone support die off quickly in order to A) save money by not having to pay engineers to test the latest android updates and B) push customers towards upgrading to the newest hardware. The only two phone types that get real updates directly from the source (Windows Phones and Blackberries don't count :p) are Nexus and iPhones.

Anyone else feel the same way? That the only phone options are Nexus or iPhones? Why do you (or don't you) feel this way?

The unlocked Galaxy s6 (best buy 599) has no carrier bloatware. Only samsung pre-installed apps.

No not really. For me it would be iPhone or Samsung and nothing else. I've used the first and second gen nexus 7 tablets. They were ok but very bland. I'm not a fan of stock android. I'm exclusively on iOS now but if I was going to use an android device it would be a Samsung Galaxy.

Because if you buy **** you get no or almost no software support.

If you buy iPhone you get at least 2 or 3 major updates and multiple minor updates and Apple integration you cant beat with anything.
True, I loved installing a 3 yr old device with a new OS, to say it killed it was an understatement....

Again, that is not really android. That is a touchwiz skin. Go for the Oneplus X or the Nexus 5X.
What a load of bananas, if it's not android, what is it. A few more options in the menus , some themes. Have I missed anything...

many more always running system services and frameworks in the background that eat up more ram and processing power than stock android. then whatever preloaded bloat that ends up running in the background if you dont stop it, both from samsung and third parties.

I am liking samsung more than stock androids current offerings though regardless!

google play edition samsung is still the dream for me :)

I would say Nexus or nothing else. Why put iPhone in there ? Unless you want an outdated OS and Fischer Price toy phone.

You could put the granddaddy of Phablets on there, the Note series. Especially rooted and ROM'd a Note phone then becomes one of the best smartphones for that year.

My interest in nexus phones have risen given the latest batch. I'll look forward to 2016 android n and the nexus phones with great interest. Android n needs to add the extra goody features that skins like touchwiz have. And Google needs to make a premium nexus 5.

All those things come together this year and I'll be a nexus user.

I would hope a Nexus 5P is in the works as well. Maybe I can finally get my wife off iDevices.

Somehow I doubt it.

In answer to the thread question - absolutely not.

The Nexus has never / will never be on my radar.
I have never really enjoyed stock Android and think that the Nexus 6P is one of the most boring handsets available. It certainly doesn't excite me and is way too big for me personally.

I also do not like the rubber piece on the bottom of the device.

I love Samsung's S6 and think that the S7 is one to watch even if it's only a minor upgrade to the device.

I'd take an iPhone over a Nexus any day. :)

A mate at work has an HTC A9 which I think is a great looking phone. iPhone rip off, sure, but still a very nice looking phone.

I think there's a lot of decent Android alternatives out there now that do a fantastic job - OnePlus, Motorola's handsets etc.

This was my main reason going Samsung back in 2011, although other Android OEMs have caught up in many of these areas recently, Samsung had it all down in early 2011 with the Galaxy S2 and just got better by the year.

The one and only Nexus phone that I bought and still have was the Nexus 4. I could never get more than an hours of screen time on the thing and always had a bad experience with the phone. I got tired of the bad battery life on Lollipop and went back to KitKat this week and rooted it just so I could install adaway. First time I ever rooted it, was just as easy as jailbreaking an iPhone.

Because of the crappy experience on the Nexus 4, I've been reluctant to buy another Nexus ever since. My next Android phone after the Nexus 4 was a Note 4 and Note Edge. I still use those two phones today, they aren't even a year old yet.I went back to KitKat and those and my battery life has doubled. Amazing phones on Kitkat.

I do have a iPhone 5S and a 6+ that I use daily too. Both the Samsungs and iPhone are activated on T-Mobile today.

You use 4 phones?

Yes. I have no need to do so, just when T-Mobile offered 4 lines for the price of three with 10GB data each line, it was a great deal so I called and am using four phones on that deal. for one line of unlimited it's $95 and I am paying $120 for four lines with more data than I will ever use. I had two lines unlimited for $100 before this.

Since I replied above, I bought a 6S and a 6S+ that I use plus the Note 4 and Note Edge.

In response to OP: kind of.

Because I like things clean and reliable. Whenever I've bought or extensively used other phones (Samsung & Sony), I always ended up eventually becoming too frustrated with things not working, or the OS just being too ill designed.

With that said though, to me the N5 was the last really solid Nexus in terms of design and hardware. N6 felt too cheap in my hand and those that have come after are just...weird. The Motos still look great though, and I guess they could be included in the 'Nexus' category.

For now I'm allowing myself to become fully submerged in an all-Apple set up, AW, iPhone, new Mac etc, and at the moment I'm very happy with these. But, I'm never the one to say 'never', so who knows... And if something would lure me away, it would probably be a really nice new Nexus or Moto.

I know I'll start drooling next fall when the new Note comes out, that can't be helped, and my fingers will end up fondling the credit card while walking around the Samsung mini-stores... But sadly my bad experiences with Samsung are so extensive that I'll probably end up listening to the voice of reason.

So I do have a feeling that if really cool things start happening over in the Android camp, and my urge for change fires up again, and whomever designs the next Nexus really runs a tight ship - a Nexus is the only thing I'd leave my iPhone for.

I can understand keeping two unlimited lines for $100 when one line is only $5 less, but why would you pay $20 more for four lines with 10GB each on the same network? That's just weird. :p

Well, I had unlimited data on two lines for $100, more data then I could ever use. For $20 more, I get four lines and can barely use more then 4-5GB per month and with data stash, I still have more data then I could ever use. I see no difference between the two plans except now, I get two more lines for $20 more. I feel it's a much better deal.

They gave me the data bucket per line that was 10GB extra per line and could never even use it so it was thrown away as of the 1st of the year.

My point being...why the heck do you need 4 lines? Lol

I don't. I just like being able to use a lot of different phones and having the ability to just grab whatever one I want use and leave the house with it without swapping sims. This week, I've been using my Note 4/Note Edge more then the iPhones.
