So I got my pros today and I have normal AirPods. While the sound is obviously better on the pros I do prefer the simplicity of normal
AirPods such as a simple tap to skip songs and no faff with fitting in ear like the pros. I will probs send the pros back.

There will be plenty who prefer the OG style, especially in certain usage contexts.

Makes total sense..

I suspect a lot of opinion will come down to fit. If the original AirPods didn't fit your ears well (or at all), I suspect there will be no contest and the Pros will be the new Best Thing Ever. But if the original AirPods fit your ears well and give a good seal, there's no compelling reason to upgrade.

AirPods just don't fit me very well, even with silicon covers, so I can't wait to get a pair of Pros. I find AirPods pretty useless out on the street, on the train etc as there's just too much background noise coming in so I often end up turning the volume up way too high. It will be interesting to see if I need to use the noice cancelling much or if the improved fit does all I need.

One thing I will say is the ANC is amazing. You will really benefit from them.

I don't prefer the OG AirPods, but I'm not going to the Pros. They look really nice but I don't have a use case for noise cancelling AirPods. I wear bigger headphones on planes.

So far, at least for my ears, the orginial Airpods feel better in my ears, but going to try the Pro's a few days and see if I get used to them.

not a chance... the Originals had a tendency to fall out or feel like they were falling. This usually resulted in bad sound to because i had to fiddle with them to go back in to the right place.

These Pro's don't budge, they sound great, and the ANC works really well.

My solution with the Original Airpods was to get the the Comply SoftConnect's for them. They made them great ear buds, but they are inconvenient to drop right back in to the case. I only used them when i was working out or going to leave them in my ears for hours at a time.

If you listen to airpods in a very quiet environment, version 1 or 2 do just fine. If however you have even minimal noise, I have to echo earlier comments and say that the noise cancellation is very high quality on the new pros. For my use in the office and the gym there is no contest.

So far I can't get the Pro's to hold a seal long. No matter what size, the seal eventually breaks. Wondering if I should just keep my Gen 2's and invest in good over ears for noise cancelling situations.

Wonder no longer - the answer is likely "yes".

For serious NC situations, good over-ears will win , particular if one of the situations is flights (where battery life quickly can become a concern)

Yeah, I seem to have a problem with in-ears and seals. I hoped maybe something was different. I love my gen2 Airpods for everything but the office, where I work under a loud air conditioner.

I have fibromyalgia, and it's more nerve related than muscular. I have severe sensitivity all around my head/face/neck. It's really painful to keep these in my ear longer than 15-20 minutes. My Gen 1's I wouldn't even notice unless I laid down. I'd actually forget after I got off long calls with my boyfriend that I'd have them in my ears. They sit and are loose sure, but they didn't hurt me in the slightest.

I have to use the biggest eartips because the others don't have a great seal.. however the mediums are the most comfortable. Wish they made a tip between medium and large. Would be perfect.

After extensive testing past 24 hours, I'm going to be returning the pros. I'm pretty bummed because for the past 10+ years I've wanted apple to bring back the in-ear headphones like they used to make in the iPod days. Unfortunately for me, my ears are just a tad too small (not the inner portion, the seal is fine with medium tips) and it puts a ton of pain into the sides of my head after 20 minutes or so. I thought I was going to miss out on lots of bass going back to my gen 2 airpods (which I LOVE), but it turns out, after testing them together at the same time, the mid bass is actually louder on the gen 2's... Really surprised me. What you do lose is clarity in the tones though, and the ANC. The ANC is nice but as someone who uses them primarily for cycling, it felt a little dangerous to be honest.

TL;DR, the bud portion of the APP's are too large for my ears and cause pain. Turns out the bass really isn't that much better, if at all, than the gen 2's that fit my ear perfectly. ANC is great for any time you don't need to be aware of your surroundings.. Returning today!

Interesting. I keep hearing people say they don’t notice a difference in bass between the 2 and APP, but is there a difference between the Gen 1 and 2 in bass ? A lot of people keep comparing the 2s with them, so curious for your reply!

In my use, I will say that I do think the bass is better, but like most in ear's, it's entirely dependent on the seal you get. It's not THAT much better though.

I haven't tried the pro's yet but based on my experience of all other in-ear headphones I expect they won't work for me. I have very shallow ear canals (the type that ear plugs won't stay in) and so this type of earphone never stays in for me. i can use the type that have an additional claw or something to hold onto another part of the ear but for those that rely purely on the seal then its normally no-go. i will try them at some point however just to make sure.

for me the fit of the normal airpods is not perfect but it is ok and for sitting at my desk at work I really like them - I actually appreciate the fact that they don't fully seal and cancel out the background so I can still hear whats going on around me to some extent. Its only when travelling that I wish they sealed better

AirPod Pro disappointing in that they only come in WHITE for $249 I want my choice of color
Tried these in Apple store and fit is better than original AirPods but still not tight as the Bose or Sony buds
Sound was good
I’ll wait for the next version as it seems these were rushed to market and lack finesse

The OG AirPods never really fit my ears well enough to even take on walks, mostly being used in the office and on road trips. The new AirPods Pro are hands down better fit and just expand the use cases for me. Night and day difference for me.

Sadly I’ve had to book mine in for return which is a shame as I consider myself a bit of an AirPods superfan. None of the ear tips fit well, they all seemed to be too big and it was very fiddly and quite uncomfortable working them into my ear to get a good seal. The ANC didn’t work very well for me either, I could always hear outside noise even when the tester app said I had good seals (I did check I had ANC activated!)

I’m also not a big fan of the squeezing gestures, it requires a lot more precision than tapping. I noticed when I was on some exercise equipment that it took a lot longer to find the stem and squeeze it than quickly slapping either side of my head to go forward/back a track.

What I love about regular AirPods is how quickly I can get them out of the case and into my ears. With these new ones it seems that immediacy is lost and the noise cancelling and better sound quality don’t really do enough to to override the drawbacks for me.

Hopefully we’ll get some red and black AirPods soon, my wallet is ready Apple!

I really wanted to like the Pro’s. The sound quality is maybe a little bit better than the AirPods (2 gen), but the ANC makes me feel dizzy after a while due to the pressure in the ears. On top of that the AirPods (2 gen) fit my ears perfectly. So the Pro’s are going back.

I am leaning towards returning. I don’t like the silicone tips, calls sound weird even with ANC off or transparency on. Also hearing my footsteps when I walk.

OG AirPods for me, but the pros are nice.
