Some Apple stores have the 4GB models in stock. The best thing to do would be to stop by and ask. Spec-wise, there isn't much difference between the 13" Air and 13" Pro, apart from the lack of expandability of the Air and the 2.4GHz processor in the Pro, so I think you'd be OK with it.
Correct. I got my maxed out 13 inch MBA from a nearby Apple Store that had it in stock. It is my understanding that most, if not all, Apple Stores carry the top of the line versions of both the 11 inch and 13 inch MBA.

I have both the 13 and 11 and the 13 likely will barely fit in tray I am sure.

Not true. I've already traveled in coach with my 13 MBA and it fits just fine. I love, now that the 11" is out, how people consider the 13" big and less portable.

That's my understanding as well. In the Apple store in my town they advertise the maxed out specs for both the 11" and 13" MBA.

Bought the 11 MBA. No regrets. Had a 13" MB before and prefer the smaller one for being on the road. I fly over 100k miles/year. That .6 lb makes a difference for me. I have found no issues. At home, I connect to a 27" cinema monitor, which it drives perfectly. The whole thing works great for me. YMMV based on your needs, of course.

One note about battery life - the battery life on the 11 is fine - 5 hours at full usage. But when you take breaks, do other stuff, or whatever else needs to happen - the standby time advantage of the MBAs really stretches the functional battery life much longer than 5 hours. I have had it last for over 10hours in a meeting, with battery left over.

Cheers

I understand that. This comment wasn't addressed to the OP but to the person who says the 13 is the same width and height as the 11. It's not. People who don't mind the 0.6 inch weight or the 1-2 inches wider and deeper, then thats cool as well. I'm just stating they size different between the two are noticeable. oh..just realized ...you wrote the comment. LOL.

I didn't say the 13" was the same width and height as the 11". I said it was the same width and height as the 13" MBP...

it's all relative. tell me of a viable substitute to the mba line-up in the market today. none of them will give you as complete of a package as the mba series.

The "complete package" is all relative too, though. I can buy a 11.6" machine with a Core i5 processor for hundreds less than a 11.6" MBA, but might have to sacrifice the SSD (or upgrade it myself).

My point was that there are perfectly capable machines in this size class for less money. Every 11" machine (MBA included) involves sacrifices. Just a matter of WHICH sacrifices you are willing to live with. I am not willing to live with a slower proc and 33% price increase for the MBA.

Actually I always thought the 13" was too big and not portable enough for me - so much so that I relunctantly bought an eeePC netbook 2 years ago because I needed something smaller than 13".

The 11" is the computer I have been waiting for for years. And now it is out, I still think the 13" is too big, for me.

...Also, I was concerned that my aging eyes might have trouble with the 11 inch MBA's small size.
It's that aging eyes thing that's getting to me as well. I've become completely spoiled with my 17" MBP - both in terms of screen size and the backlit keys. I'm considering a MBA for my writing work, which doesn't require as large of a screen as the video work I do, but the non-backlit keys seems like a dealbreaker right now. I've been using a Dell Mini 9 hackintosh for almost two years now, and the absence of lit keys sometimes really kills me on dark airplanes, and of course, the screen size is murder for writing as well. I mainly use the Mini 9 for mobile Web tethered to my Nexus, movies on the plane, and sysadmin utilities for my job.

Ah, so we should factor in how we look using a computer before getting one! We'll all be sure to get your looks approval before buying anything.

Yep!

You don't have to get my approval, but just know that persons of the opposite sex, i.e. me, find it laughable. Beware single guys!

I keep wanting to buy the 11" MBA because I enjoy giving apple my money, but its slower and lower resolution than my MBP and its not as portable as my iPad. I keep trying to place myself in imaginary situations where an 11" MBA would be great..but sadly these situations don't exist in reality. also the newly released Traktor S4 minimum system requirements is 1.66Ghz which puts another dent in my already terrible plan.

For the past 3 years I have been using a macbook pro and I love it, recently I have been on the move alot more and in terms of practicality it just doesnt cut it.

I was debating over the 13 and 11 inch MBA in the end i went with the 11inch my thinking was 13 is only a bit smaller and aside from the weight there isnt that much difference in looking at it.
I got the 11 its taken me a few days to get used to it but I love it, I could use this everyday, and for people saying the battery is too short I have been getting around 6 hours comfortably and there has never been a situation I have not had a power source for that long.
Its quick, light and looks great I love it.

Pixel density is pretty much the same between the 11" and 13" MBA. If the text is too small on the 11", it will likely be too small on the 13".

If serious, this is one of the sillier posts I've read in a while.

Women won't like it that a guy is walking around with the most innovative, most portable, best looking laptop around. Based on that logic, they'd really get excited about some guy lugging a 17" Windows behemoth. Apparently size matters.

To make a car analogy, a small sharp looking sports car would be "laughable", but driving a giant Bentley limo would be attractive.

Good one.

So what you are saying is that a big guy with a 17" looks better than one trying to make do with an 11"?

Thats hawt.

Agreed.

My potential issue is deciding if I can really comfortably live with the smaller display. But battery life, compared to my 2009 13" MBP is at least as good if not better. I'm getting 5 hours in typical usage, but up to 7 in light usage. If I really ragged it, it would probably be less than 2hrs, but same can be said for the MBP.

Well I got the 11.6, and it is the perfect size, in my opinion. Weight wise, you'd see an improvement with whichever mba you went with, over the other macbooks, so not really an issue. I simply like the form factor. I'll still be keeping my others macs for the intensive tasks like transcoding, etc, but it's been the mba in my lap, and not the others.

Easy, by spending over a grand for a laptop that doesn't fit your needs or not use.

The OP spent a lot money on the MBA and it turns out it was not money well spent since he's not using it very much.

Has anyone seen a reason why the bezel is so Big -- it would have been ideal with a edge to edge screen.

I just bought an Ultimate 11.6 earlier today and I am regretting it a bit too. The screen is just smaller than I thought (even though my old computer had a 12.1 inch screen). I think the problem is the huge bezel around the screen. It makes the screen look even smaller and they probably could have fit a 13 inch screen on the 11. The 16:9 ratio doesn't help either. I kind of wish I went with the 13 inch. Maybe I'll get used to it.
