Just buy a wifi iPad to play with until "late April." Surely you know someone who will want it, when your 3G finally shows up, right? Or else you have a backup. That is always wise, right?

This has been thrown around a lot, and I don't understand the reasoning.

There are three parts to a month- early, mid, late. We are in mid-April right now... not late April. If the month has 30 days, "Late-April" would start on the 20th, would it not?

Late-April is not mid-to-late April. Doesn't make any sense...

All you sticklers really need to relax. Take a chill pill. Jeez. You take yourselves and all this a bit too seriously, dontcha think?

Besides, I could just as easily parse it as: there are two parts to a month - early and late. Hence, it's already late. Your parsing is no more logical or valid than this parsing.

Bottom line: they're not here yet, and will be shortly. Get over it.

Nope, my wifi version is doing just fine ;)

I'm not sure i understand the need for 3G. I already pay AT&T waaay too much for my iPhone, and wifi signals are almost anywhere. If it really becomes an issue, I'll just jailbreak and use miwi.

That all being said, ive only had the iPad for a few days. I may turn out to really want 3g and exchange, but so far I've been fine without it!

8 days at the in-laws every year with no WiFi. Need I say more!

Really? I hear people say that and I just haven't experienced it. I travel all over the world and while WiFi is available often, accessible WiFi is nowhere near "almost anywhere". Many of the places it can be found (airports, etc) are through paid subscriptions to some sort of boingo or t-mobile. I think the pricing that AT&T has offered makes the 3G iPad very compelling. In addition, I still find that many hotels (really nice and just nice ones) in various countries still only have wired internet or the WiFi has bad performance.

On the other hand, for lots of people they know that within their circles of movement they always have wifi available when they need it... perfect.

I love choices that meet the needs of disparate consumers.

3G may not fully satisfy...

I am getting highly variable 3G download speeds on my iPhone 3GS as I move around our high tech town. It varied yesterday, for example, from 174kbps to 1862kbps.

I've ordered a 3G iPad for our lab testing but meanwhile I'm quite happy using the WiFi iPad + the Sprint Overdrive which gives me download speeds ranging from 2620kbps to 4506kbps throughout our town.

Actually there are 31 days to a month except for Sept, Apr, June and november and then there is that weird month Febuary, thankful Steve didn't plan a February launch

LOL. Because of us Americans waiting for the iPads we already paid for from an American company whose primary market is America.

I think Apple should completely shut out the international world - I'd like to see their profits then!

Why would they do that? They sell a lot of stuff overseas. It's just not their primary market.

I am going out on a limb to assume ct2k7 was aiming for sarcasm.

Actually I decided not to go nuts over this. Of course, booze helps:D. I've already been through the gut wrenching, heart pounding and anxiety attacks that come before a new release. Went through h..., waiting for the 27" i7 iMac and I refuse to let it bother me again.:)

I totally agree. Even if people who claim "wifi is everwhere" mean in their home and at work, what about when commuting or travelling? However, I've decided to buy a wifi iPad and an external mifi type device to supply 3G goodness to both my iPhone and iPad.

Travel Schedules

It's not just the nerdiness issue. It's that I have a life…and a travel schedule. When I drop nearly $1k on a device, I expect a timely shipping notice so that I can ensure that I receive delivery when promised. If Apple is going to fulfill its end of April promise, then announce a date. If Apple isn't able to fulfill it's promise, admit it!
This isn't about greed…it's about good business etiquette. Be forthcoming with those who pre-ordered by giving us a chance to make adequate preparations.
I've been doing this Apple dance since 1984 - and this is the most lackluster performance I've experienced. If they could announce April 3 in January, why can't they announce an end of April date by April 17?

It's starting to get ridiculous that at this point we don't even have a date? What is the point of not at least giving us a date? Late April could be today or any other day in the next 2 weeks. Why not just say April 30th? (or whateveR)
Why don't you just assume April 30? Then you don't have to think about it again until a couple of days before the 30th. That's pretty much what I'm doing. I ordered with the knowledge and expectation of "late April", and that makes the 30th perfectly legitimate.

I realize people are excited about the new product. I am. But I don't get the obsessing and anxiety people are feeling over it. It's just a manufactured product, and there will be plenty more significant products in the future.

I'm gonna return my wifi to get the 3G, I just want to have an option...In the long run I know it will be worth it...

I just got done traveling over the weekend with my wifi and I'm selling it for a 3g. Wifi is not ubiquitous enough in the US to be wifi only for me.

If the point of Apple saying "late April" is to maintain maximum flexibility in shipping of this supply-constrained device, then I think it's very safe to assume that they mean anytime in the second half of the month - April 15 to April 30.
