I'm just going to pick up a used Note (first version) now prices have plummeted. I used one when my iphone was being repaired, it was fantastic and will easily replace both my iphone and ipad. Considering less than a year ago it was the highest spec phone on the market, it still has plenty of life left.

If you do any art or design work the stylus is a fantastic tool. I'd advise anybody to try the note, it's slim and light and much more pocketable than you'd think. It's probably the most exciting gadget I've tried in many a year.

I've heard the note 2 is rgb and not pen tile. That alone makes up for the lost pixels.

I don't see what disadvantage 16:10 would have if they had kept the same size, which was perfect.

I know about the different technology.

I mean the previous one was better if the resolution was properly advertised.

You don't need full color resolution for full detail.

You don't, perhaps, but others may need it.

Personally, I'm glad that they switched to a 1280x720 resolution. And the fact that they are returning to 3 subpixels per pixel (though not in the usual RGB arrangement -- the B is perpendicular to R and G) makes up for the loss of pixels, IMO.

My father has the original Note, and I remember loading up a PDF of a Calculus textbook. The colors were way off -- there was a purplish tint. I'm guessing that this is because of pentile screen.

For me, my primary uses of a smartphone is actually not using the phone, but listening to music and watching videos. A vast majority of the videos I have are Korean dramas in 16:9, and with the Galaxy Note II, I can now watch them without the black bars. :D

The Galaxy Note II is now on the top of my list of the next phone to get. (I just sold my iPhone 4S.) A 1280x720 screen, a removable battery, up to 64GB internal storage, a microSD slot that accepts 64GB cards, and a non-pentile screen. These are the features I've been wanting in my next phone. The only negative is the screen size (I think it's too big), but I'll try to live with it.

I had the original note but got rid of it very quickly because of the size. I may try out the note 2 because I love the new s pen features. This time I'll give it a longer testing period.
