If you set your phones region to United States & reboot you’ll get live voicemail. I’ve had my phone like this since the beta and haven’t noticed any issues so far, you can set your metric and date preferences to UK etc

You can set your keyboard language to English UK, the only difference I’ve really noticed is that some of the items in settings are American for example “Cellular” menu instead of “Mobile data”

If you set Siri to Language English (US) you get voicemail transcriptions too, you can set the voice to British so again no real difference as far as I can tell.

What phone are you using, I've tried changing region and Siri to US and am still not even getting Live voicemail, let alone the transcribe feature. With an iPhone 14 Pro.

If this works on phone - I’ll be happy. I’m on Three who never added Visual voicemail, and this sounds like it bypasses networks?
I’m on smarty which uses three. Doesn’t work for me. Should there be an option when the call comes in to send to voicemail? I don’t have that. Cheers

14 Pro Max

Send a screenshot of your settings. Did you reboot? It only applies the region after a reboot. You can confirm by seeing £ replaced with a $ on your keyboard.

Yes, to reboot, yes to $ on keyboard where £ usually is.

So in the UK on smarty, this wasn’t working with setting US region and Siri to US. However this afternoon I turned off live voicemail restarted, turned it back on and restarted again. It’s now working. I had an incoming call which had the option to send to voicemail. I selected yes and it said it would transcribe the voicemail if I unlocked my screen. Shame you have to unlock for this to work though!

Didn't work for me :(

I'll have to keep trying.

It's US only at the moment IIRC. Whether we will get it in the UK is anyone's guess. Don't forget, we never got the transcribe function from voicemail which the States have had for years and years and years.
Everyone is petrified of GDPR and doesn’t feel like taking the risk. The fine is up to 4% of yearly turnover or £17.5m, whichever is higher.

I believe there’s room for it to go to 25% based on number of infractions, but I could be wrong.

That’s interesting, I always thought Live Voicemail required some server-side work by the provider. I find their default system of calling a phone number and going through a bunch of menu options terrible. Would love to have Live Voicemail And voicemail management through the menu’s on my iPhone.

GDPR no longer applies in the UK thanks to certain political decisions.... so they should be more of a chance of it coming to the UK than the rest of the EU.

That’s not accurate, The uk gdpr rules are a more severe offshoot if the eu ones, but very much still exist.

You can find more info here

Info on uk business compliance here

And read about some differences here (this is prior to adoption / eu acceptance so may not be entirely accurate )
