It was fun for the original iPhone because it was truly something game changing.

They've not released anything since that I would even remotely consider waiting in line for.

Nope. Never made sense to me even if I couldn't buy online right away.

I'm an old millennial so I remember standing in line for concert tickets in the 90s but that made sense since you couldn't get them online and there was only 1 show so you had to wait in line for it. Concert or any live event is a 1 time only thing that is never repeated exactly.

I wouldn't even wait in line for movie tickets years ago because it's the same movie whether you see it opening night or 3 days later. Same thing with the iPhone....same hardware but you were just waiting in line to get it faster which seemed like a waste of time.

After that experience for the 6 Plus launch for me and that was it. I said to my self that I will never stand in line like that ever.

Thankfully with the current set up of how Apple Store does it with in-store pick up. There's no need for me to wake up early to stand in line to score one. Plus I have one being delivered to me.

Urgh, I'm much happier just having it delivered.

Although, a few years ago, the BBC were interviewing people asking "what they've given up to buy this phone".
I'd turned up in really rough looking clothes, and after I gave them the interview they didn't want (saved up all year, buy them outright, etc), I wanted to go back with a fake tattoo scar to see if I could catch them again and show them the scar and say "i sold a kidney for this years phone".

I’m grateful I don’t have to see pictures of those long lines. They were always a bit disturbing

I only did this one time, which was during the iPhone 5 launch. Coincidentally Facebook reminded me yesterday that I bought an iPhone 5 exactly nine years ago. I remember waking up super early, going down the road to the Apple Store in Cambridge, UK, and waiting outside the mall's gate in the designated queue. I was not too far from the front of the queue, getting my silver 5 not too long after the store opened. When I left the store, the queue had stretched out onto the street. I usually wait a couple of weeks to a month after sales have started to get the iPhone, but this year will be the second time I'm getting it on launch day, and the first time I'll be pre-ordering online (pre-orders only open for my country on 01 Oct).

A nice little store. Wish uk got stores like in US though!

I was thinking about this last night. I’d go to bed early Thursday night and get up and head to the store at the mall and line up. And wait for like 6 hours. It was boring but kinda funny at the same time.

I got the 12 on launch day and got a pickup slot for lunchtime so it was super chilled out and I could feel the buzz when I approached the Apple store.

I’ve always wanted to experience the waiting in line the night before etc especially so in America where the weather is probably mostly decent to stay out lol

I kind of got my wish of a launch day iPhone but not quite how I’ve always wanted it to be!

I’m not afraid to admit I enjoyed it. People watching, talking with others about the excitement of the new phones, etc. - I enjoyed it but the original question is, do I miss it? Not really. I can spend 10 minutes on these forums and see the excitement but also the nastiness of some people that I saw on a few launches. So I can walk away from the computer and my phone will still magically appear on launch day without being stuck seeing (reading now) the evilness.

While the convenience of getting it delivered to my door and not having to get up early to stand is line is nice it still was a great experince being at the Apple store in the mall sharing the excitement with others. I miss those days of standing in line watching and celebrating people in front of you walk out with theirs its just so much better ordering online and the only waiting I’m doing is for the door bell.

I've only done it once - for the 4S. It was fun. The store was in an ourdoor shopping area, not a mall, so it was easy to get to the 24 hour grocery store to get a snack in the middle of the night.

The family who brought an air mattress and had to take their kids to school before the store opened was fun. Also a guy in a hammock who was there for days.

Can you not wait in line anymore?

I did it for the 3GS and the 4 and the 5…

It was an “occasion” but I don’t miss it when the weathers not good or if you have important work that needs your attention that day.

I don’t think I’d be able to handle it at my age anymore.

I’m sure the lines would be full of intensely annoying Apple sycophant iJustine and René Ritchie types

Absolutely not but I remember going to several stores to stand in line for the iPhone 6 in the early morning hours, then saying "f this" and waiting another year for the 6s 😂

I don't miss waiting in line because I never waited in line for anything. But I do miss those videos of people buying the new product that Apple played at keynotes after the product launch. It was really exciting to see people be so excited about great products. I miss that. There's no excitement about Apple products anymore.

Tbh I know it was an inconvenient and getting the phone delivered is a lot easier with no hassles, but it was fun man, standing in line talking to other ppl about tech and apple stuff, I stood in line for 6 hours for the iPhone 4S which was my first ever iPhone, there was a funny guy there joking around we were laughing and talking the whole time and then one apple employee starting bringing snacks to everyone, I know we were tired and its so much easier just to have your phone delivered to your door but that was a memory I'll never forget....I even remember one guy behind us sold his spot for $200 to someone else that came later when the apple store stopped letting ppl stand in line due to limited inventory.

I mean… you can still do that 🤷🏻‍♂️

It will come back. Some people don’t want to pre-order.
