if I'm not able to get launch day DELIVERY... the only line I stand in is the reservation line for an in store pick up.

I haven't tended to be an opening-day phone-getter (though I ordered my SE 2020 on opening day as an exception). But I did once go in the afternoon on a opening day: a coworker and I decided on the spur of the moment since we both wanted the 4S to just up and go. Went to the Mall of America store, not far from where we worked. Assumed we would have to stand in line, and hoped it wouldn't be too bad. But nope. Just walked right into the store, each asked to buy a 4S in whatever capacity, paid, walked out. It was kind of surreal there being no line in a generally crowded place like Mall of America.

Only other time I remember standing in line was for OS X Panther. That is until the pandemic, when I had to make a reservation and stand in line to buy an Apple Watch. But I don't think that counts.

To be honest standing in line for anything has never appealed to me and not something I’ve had time to do. When you can preorder products and receive them in your own home without staying up all night, I don’t see the attraction.

I’ve only ever done it once, for the 6+. Closest Apple store is an hour in a half away from me. Drove down about 8pm night before, not knowing the mall it’s in doesnt form a overnight line. Won’t let you on the property even until 6am. Opens at 8am. Drove back home. Ended up waking up at 2am and not being able to fall back asleep so drove back down there. Waited in a McDonald’s parking lot for 4 hours. When the line finally was allowed to form it was more like a crowd. Nothing anywhere near organized. I got to the crowd late, but when they brought everyone to the door of the mall I was able to squeeze myself up to the front. Ended up with only 6 people ahead of me. Unique experience for sure, but I much prefer ordering it and impatiently waiting for delivery.

I have not been to the US before, so I haven't experienced any of the US Apple Stores, but I've been to a few in Europe, and my favourite one so far over there has to be the one in Milan followed by the redesigned Regent St. store in London.
That store is awesome at Regent St

I had a few early mornings at the Apple Store that were kind of fun. They had a guy playing music. Lots of fun and energy. if I’m not mistaken back then you had to go to a store to get your service transferred over. One year before we had an Apple Store I went to Best Buy. I was the first person there and created the line. Got there before the employees. Waited for hours. Finally left without an iPhone. For the color and storage combination I wanted they didn’t get any. Not blaming them of course. All-in-all I like the simplicity of the online way better, but I do think there was some thrill of the hunt that we no longer have.

I always went to Perimeter. Lenox was just a hot mess. And Cumberland, we’ll, it’s Cumberland. But that’s where my pickup is Friday at 8am.

I think it was fun and exciting but the iPhone release back then was much more substantial and a bigger deal after you got the device abs used it. Now the updates are minimal and feel like the phone you already had. Wouldn’t wait for these updates. Something new and exciting? Sure why not.

Hell to the no. I had to do the 2+ hours lines twice as a member of the IUP program. Once they started letting us get our phones shipped to us that was thankfully the end of that.

It was fun when I didn't have kids. Now I have 6, so it's much more fun to wake up with them around, or at minimum to not come home to a wife who is upset at me for not helping get them ready for school!

I don't like wasting my time by standing in line for something. Never did and never will.
I got too many things to do. LOL.

This is from the iPhone 4 Launch in 2010. That year... I got my iPhone delivered 2 days early... so I had the iPhone 4... recording at the iPhone 4 in person launch. I met up with my cousin, because I snagged an extra reservation... so I was letting him use it to get his iPhone. The funny thing is that I happened to wear a blue t-shirt... and the apple employees were wearing blue shirts... so here I am with an iPhone 4 in my hands... a blue shirt... and people thought I worked for Apple... and kept approaching me asking to play with the phone. 🤣

iPhone 4 was my second iPhone and it was a world apart from anything else.

watching at this video though, you really realise how far ahead we are now, so much camera shake, unwatchable. I have a video taken with a X years ago while I was running and it is way more stable.
I’m curious about the new 13 pro coming tomorrow!

Only product launch I ever stood in line for was Windows 98. I’ve always had Apple products delivered. Maybe not as much fun, but there’s a lot to be said for getting the exact device you want on launch day & not missing work to do so.

Don’t really miss it at all. I went a few times to guarantee a release day phone. I can do that from my home now.

I went to get the Iphone 3G but at that time I was off of work that day. I waited in line for about 1 hour and it wasn't that bad. Most people went to the Apple store, I went to the AT&T kiosk. I will never have time for one now if they had one. No way I would waste a vacation day for it either, I'm glad to be able to pick it up after work.
