Funny I should read this now. I Noticed yellow marks on the rubber feet. I just assumed it was from the Pledge I used to clean my coffee table befor I put it down...maybe its something different? No yellow on the MacBook itself though but I've only had it Since Saturday, June 10th.
I love it...best purchase EVER...hmm..exept those condoms I use!:p

lol I'd never even heard of this problem until I read about it on this forum yesterday. And now people are acting like every macbook has it. It's white plastic, so yes, it's going to show stains if you use it with dirty hands.

Dunno about you all, but I'm getting sick of a few careless people "discovering" a new "defect" with one or another mac model and starting a panic about it. This is the plastic over the vent all over again. These things get absurdly blown out of proportion, both in terms of prevalence and seriousness.

If you take care of your macbook it's going to look just fine. Seriously.

Maybe you should take a look at the thread at Apple's support boards:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread....16645&tstart=0

Many of those people are former iBook owners who never had the problem with their iBook. Unlike iBook stains, the MacBook stains seem to be un-cleanable. Seems to be a different problem entirely, and not sloved by "washing your hands."

I think that the stain issue might have something to do with people not washing their hands after they've visited the washroom.

I've heard it's temperature related, and the brown is actually burned plastic, that would explain why it's not cleanable

I've had no stains these last three weeks, but now I'm careful not to let the case get too hot.

Care to visit http://stainedBook.info ??

Careless and dirty people will not care for a dirty stained computer.
This stains are NOT dirt nor come from using the computer with dirty hands.

It has to do with people's sweat and body chemistry. My ibook got discolores like this after 4-5 months of use. It's incredible my macbook got the same stains only 2 weeks after I bought it.

For god's sake, I work in a lab, need to wash my hands probably more than you do... so I would ask people to stop claiming with use the laptop with dirty hands after using the toilet or eating cheetos. :(

MacBooks palmrest areas don't get any warmer than the iBooks'

Heat is roughly the same, hand hygene is the same (good!) and hand's sweat is the same..... so what is making the macbook get the discoloration stains after 2 weeks of usage while the ibook last for many months undamaged?

I hear that polycarbonate plastics are temperature-stable up to like 475 degrees Fahrenheit. Doubt that it's a heat issue.

It would be great if someone with a discolored macbook took it apart, and could confirm if it's a heat issue or not   ;)

and give Apple even more reason to refuse to repair it?

Actually, macbook palmrests stay much cooler than ibook palmrests, in my experience. It's only the bottom of the macbook that gets hot; I rarely feel any heat whatsoever from the palmrests (whereas my ibook palmrests did get pretty warm, esp. the left one). But I do seem to have a cool-running macbook because overall, the heat is the same or less than my ibook G4.

Umm...no, the manufacturer website I just looked at lists 240 F as the maximum long term exposure temperature. I have a hard time believing it's a temperature problem still as you could boil water on that, but maybe the inside of the plastic is that hot. Who knows...more likely a reaction in my mind.

No stains on mine either, its a few weeks old now.

However, does anyone elses MacBook smeel like a Chemical factory? very nice, but still quite potent smell. Its kinda like a very strong "new plastic" smell, smells almost as though you could get high off it.
...maybe thats why i like OS X actually (just kidding on this last point :)

EDIT: Forgot to mention, ther smell comes with ehat, hotter the macbook, the stronger the smell.

just wanted to note that although I don't have a macbook yet, I did go to the apple store and play with them tonight. None of the 9 display macbooks in white had any discoloration. I pulled up a few forums and showed some employees the news and asked if they have heard of this yet and none of them had. Interesting, huh. Mac people that don't read online forums/blogs/tech reviews/etc... Anyway take it for what it's worth this apple store had 9 with no discoloration and the employees have never heard of it. One employee said he had heard of this kind of thing happening to the ibook but thought that it was dirty hands that do it. I was so close to buying one and now I have to wait until Apple has some response to this even though my impression so far is that this problem is likely much smaller but blown out of proportion by a vocal few.

Do people here who have stained macbooks also wear out guitar strings a lot faster than the average person?

I've had my Macbook for almost a week and haven't noticed any discolouration.

Then I also I also ordered and placed the invisibleSHIELD full body shield for Macbooks on my white MB...:p

(Yes, I do have obsessive-compulsive traits:eek: )

In case anyone is interested:

http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/APPMCBF.html

OMG I've been waiting to see if they were going to make one! I have an InvisibleShield on my 60GB iPod 5G and it works just great! I'll be honest, putting it on was a terribly stressful experience. Also, I find that around the edges of the iPod shield, there is fraying of the shield material and a general accumulation of dirt on the slightly exposed adhesive...but, it's also inside an InCase leather case, so I actually don't see the shield on a regular basis...

I *do* have obsessive traits when it comes to my Apple stuff, but I just don't think that I could handle the application process, let alone having to remove it if there was an error, aesthetic or otherwise. :(

Eduardo, would you mind posting some pictures of all of the surfaces of your MB that you put the shield on...specifically the trackpad and palmrests? I'd really love to see how it turned out so I can decide whether or not to take the plunge. :)
