I was going to upgrade (as in I actually have the phone showing up tomorrow) this year however with some stuff that has come up (I’ll be sending it right back to Apple) looks like I’ll be using my iPhone 8plus just a few months to a year longer.
I guess it’s finally time to upgrade this phone to iOS 14.

Was going to pass on upgrading for a few years, as I love my XS Max, but T-Mobile made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Straight up, no adding lines, $700 trade-in for my XS Max. That's an unbeatable trade-in value, so I decided to get a 12 Pro and give myself an unexpected early Christmas gift.

Considering the pandemic is putting a serious halt to the "mobile" part of "mobile phone" all over the world.....yeah, there is no need to upgrade. Otherwise, I'm spending a thousand bucks to do what.... sit on my couch with a phone...? No thanks, I can do that with my iPad. I'll wait until 5G and other tech is more mature, and it's safe to travel again.

I was starting to waiver but saw this Forbes article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordon...lease-iphone-12-pro-max-upgrade/#54309d335da4. The Qualcomm X60 looks like something to wait for. And I can also hope for USB-C and ProMotion next year.

Yea I been really struggling not to fall into the hype and upgrade to the 12 pro or the 12 pro max ( I am still on the 11 pro max). But I recently read those early reports and rumors about the iPhone 13 or iPhone 12 S and they definitely seem like massive features worth hold out for.

- Touch ID coming back along with Face ID

- 120 HZ pro screens

- better 5G support

-USB-C

-potentially 64 MP camera upgrade

If all or even just half those things end up being true, I would be a happy camper. But either way, the rumors have convinced to resist temptation for the time being.

If they don't botch battery mAh next year, I'll be interested. I know people are saying the batteries are still good in the 12 models but after having the 11 Pro Max beast, it's hard for me to be convinced to give it up.

I use my device a lot. For the first time, I'm not tethered to a darn charger. I'd like to keep that going forward with new devices.

Those features do seem worth the wait, but this year has been so crazy who knows what next year will be like.

Yeah the 11 Pro Max had AMAZING battery life. I went from the 11 Pro Max to the 12 Pro (I've been wanting a smaller phone for awhile now) -- and the battery life difference is very noticeable.

If battery life matters and you're happy - definitely keep that 11 Pro Max.

While the battery life kinda bums me out, it is nice having a lighter phone that doesn't pull my pants down as I walk, lol. The one handed use is nice too. Screen isn't terribly smaller.

I have an 11 Pro and am on the fence.

A Qualcomm modem and 5G are nice upgrades.

Battery life downgrade is a deal breaker.

Also as others have mentioned, travel is limited so no need to have the latest and greatest for the moment.

I also like that the rounded edges are more comfortable, the edges on the older phones always bothered me. Not a huge deal but I don’t use cases.

I don’t know what I was expecting but I’ve been testing my iPhone 12 and 8+ side by side and there is very little difference in speed when using apps. Of course the camera is much better on the 12 but I have asked myself if I’ve spent £849 on a phone just for the camera? Lol. People have been bashing on about OLED for years and yes it’s better but only a bit and not particularly life changing.

Obviously I’m keeping the 12 and selling the 8+ in the coming week but those of you with 11’s or 11 Pro’s I really can’t see why you’d feel you need to upgrade. If a 3 year old iPhone can keep toe to toe with a phone as good as the 12, the difference to last years models must be almost unnoticeable. Don’t feel you’re missing out on too much!!

I suppose when you get that one great looking photo for posterity that you might not have gotten with an inferior camera, then that in itself might be worth the purchase price.

Thanks for your impressions of the 12. It pretty much shows that these modern (even 2-3 year old phones) are have just ridiculously speedy processors that they can keep up with software changes for many years down the road. Maybe the only impediment in the future might be the RAM. But otherwise, phones nowadays really have a longer life span than phones of yesteryear.

Thanks for your first impressions of it. I also have an 8+ and was wondering how big an upgrade it might be to make the leap to the iPhone12. And of course getting used to the no TouchID/Home Button thing.

Continued good luck with your new phone!

Yea they do seem worth the wait. I am gonna hold out until like Feb or March to make a final decision. But I probably will wait at that point.

You have a point. From the reports and reviews I have come across the 12 and the 12 pro are fantastic phones but are better suited to folks who have older iphones ( 6S, 7, 8, X, XR, XS, ). Only reason I one the 12 pro max coming from the 11 pro max is the special specs in the camera.

I'm on an iPhone 8 and will be holding off. After reading the Qualcomm roadmap and the more than likely modem upgrade to the X60 in the 12s/13, I think it's worth the wait. I think it's a big enough deal to press pause for another year. I am not a serial upgrader so I plan to keep whatever my next phone is for several years and want it as future proof as possible. I'm also hoping for Touch ID to return via the power button...

i'm not. I don't have any issues with my 11pro and don't live in an area with 5g. Maybe next year if 5g is more widespread.

The average period that people keep their phones is 2-4 years these days so I wouldn’t mind betting it was people like me who upgraded the most this year. If I had anything newer than an 8 Plus I wouldn’t have bothered. I didn’t really need to bother as my 8+ is still going strong and nearly as fast as the 12.
