I have been using one for awhile now but I am on my 4th now.... I sold one and I just got notified by the person who bought it that it died . I ordered one about a month ago and it had a dead pixel, got a replacement and it had multiple dead pixels, got another replacement and the backlight is dim on that one.... I have yet another replacement on the way "fingers crossed" haha.

How has everyone been doing on controlling and adjusting the brightness on the 2005fpw?

I have a Dell 1704fpv (PVA Samsung panel 17" 1280x1024) display and the range of control on the brightness is minimal, DVI or VGA. I have to use the RGB sliders to bring the brightness down to an acceptable level, then tidy up with the Spyder2Pro profiling device. As a result, I have to leave the monitor on a constant brightness level (too much trouble to have to reprofile and so on each time I change brightness), which is a bit of a problem where I have it set up because the ambient brightness changes a lot from one time of day to the next.

As I am in the market for a Powerbook, it is very tempting to bundle the Apple Cinema Display because of how effectively the brightness control works. Also I wish Dell would ship these monitors with a silver or white bezel; the black is irritating and borderline eyestrain. I saw on another thread someone had done an outstanding homemade job on dealing with this but I don't have that kind of time or skill.

Backlight on mine leaks heavily. It's pretty noticible on dark backgrounds. Its not bad enough to want to return, but a little disapointing.

Other dispointment is that I cant do vga/dvi picture in picture. Only dvi/s-video, dvi/composite, vga/s-video, vga/compositie.

Internal LCD

The Internal LCD for the Dell 2005FPW is the same as the Apple 20" Cinema Display. It's manufactured by LG/Philips.

The same LCD is also available in the Philips 200W LCD. The 200W offers DVI and VGA inputs (no composite, or S-video), but it does have built in speakers. The supplied stand doesn't permit the display to be rotated.

Frankly, it's the best screen for its size that I've ever used.

Here in Europe, it was 100 pounds cheaper that the Dell, which itself was 100 pounds cheaper than the Apple.

The panels are the same but other components like the backlight and the front
"glass" are different. I am curious about the Philips though -- they're actually in the partnership (LG-Philips) that produces the panel.
