Yep, A1260, the latest and the greatest of the early intel MacBookPros, that resemble the 15" Powerbooks. Take care to prevent the GPU from thermal distress, since most of the units have got a faulty GPU, that might die from a sudden thermal-death (but might be temporarily resurrected a similar way ... hmppf)
It's successor, the late-2008 unibody 15" MBP (as well as the 13" aluminium MB) with black keyboard , glossy screen and the unique, most convenient battery/harddrive-door at the bottom, is also a great machine, but unfortunately has a somehow poor battery performance compared to the PowerBook-like early intel-MBP.
BTW: If you look for a later MBP with a reliable battery-performance (those ones without the "battery-door" at the bottom), the 13" c2duo MBP mid-2009 and later and the 2009 c2duo 15" unibody pre i3/i5 MBP with "build-in" battery are rock-solid successors (you should go for an SSD to be happy with OS X 10.11).
Be aware of 2010/2011 15" MBP models. Those ones with additional high-performance GPU, since that GPU is prone to make them fail.

My 15" A1260 with Windows7/LeopardServer as VirtualMachines (VMware Fusion) and VPN-Connection/RDP WinServer2008 (reasons to make an intel MacBook my daily driver)

Do all of the Intel based Powerbook look a likes suffer with GPU issues?

I had the first C2D MacBook Pro (A1211), which had a respectable ATI GPU that held up well over the years.

For the hardware itself, it needed a few fan and superdrive replacements over the 10+ years I had it, which weren't hard to find at the time and a fairly reasonable DIY repair job. Easier than the PowerBook G4s can be.

@Traace

But on which server do you play wow?

I tried to connect to that classic wow server which I think got shut down because of Blizzard's plan to relaunch WoW Vanilla.
Can't remember the name right now...
The thing is I never succeded to do so from my G5 quad.

I play WOTLK Version on sunwell.pl , 3000 ~ player connected. Vanilla version don't work, only TBC and WOTLK does. There is a old bug in server software emulator, powerpc vanilla client recieves wrong header from server and crashes :) (We can fix it, but someone with a vanilla ppc client need to track it down)

Thanks @Traace.
I started playing when TBC was ending already so that would be ok for me because many people are saying that vanilla wasn't a pleasant experience anyway.

Don't hesitate to PM me if u need a working client, we can still get other language packs too :)

Those ones with an NVIDIA-GPU @MBPs up to early-2008-versions. (There are late versions with a revised version of the GPU, that doesn't fail.)
It's a lottery.
You may check it only by disassembling the MBP and have a direct view on the GPU itself (the color of the sealing edge indicates, if you have a good or a faulty GPU-chip.)
@dosdude1 did a great review about that faulty NVIDIA-GPU and a video, how to replace it and also offers replacement as a service.
As long, as you keep temps at a moderate level in those affected MBPs, you may get away even with a faulty GPU-version ...

@Traace thanks for the video. It is just surprising seeing even multiplayer gaming is not dead on these machines.

Speaking of these machines... My MDD has been my daily driver for a long time before I left my home city. I am now back after two years. I fire up my MDD with OS X Leopard. I update Webkit, I update SMTube, and it is now ready to go. I am still surprised of how fast this machine is... 17 years after its production, 10 years after the latest OS update... Working well, fast... Other computer in my house just gave up during years... Many of them got broken... MDD still stands. What a quality.

If it ever stops working 10/10 times its the PSU. So still a fairly easy fix.

Last game I ever played before rediscovering PPC Gaming last year ( and currently Atari 8bit gaming ) was probably
Wing Commander II on PC :)

If I ever get to online gaming , how to do I get WoW installed and connected on a G4 or shouldn't I bother and better run it on a G5 ?

[ADDED 4 HOURS LATER]

So I've been checking some videos on WoW and also found you can install your own server, even
found a trinitycore that might compile on PPC
here => https://github.com/pablocrossa/trinitycore-portable
, that might be another good use for my Xserve G4 and a nice Winter PPC challenge.

Yesterday i installed on my Powerbook iPhoto '09 with new library and I upload some photos from my Panasonic Camera.
Despite of new SSD, editing photos with it is very very slow operation.

All this talk of Wow, I'm getting an itch to play some online gaming on my PPC. Is there much of that around? Many people playing online with a PPC? I wont deny playing WoW sounds interesting to say the least.
On Facebook there is a group called PPC Gaming Lounge and they host servers for various games and regularly have events. They have over 300 members, so maybe you could set up a server for an old version of WoW and some of them would join.

There are plenty of bigger oldschool servers around, with up to 3k players connected :)

They host it on x86, but ppc clients can connect to it. Only TBC and WOTLK clients for now, vanilla/classic dont work yet(because of a very small bug in netcode)

Oh, I wasn't aware. I didn't realise that many people still played the old versions of that game. Well, that is a good to know. Thanks.

Last week the battery of my Macbook Pro swelled up and so I had to take it off. Waiting to buy a new battery these days I'm using the powerbook as a daily computer to take me around.
Thanks also to the 2019 challenge my Powerbook is now complete with everything I need for every day. Writing with libreoffice, listening to music with iTunes and reading Gmail webmail with Leopard Webkit. (i set gmail simple html visualization as default)
The installation of the internal SSD is improving its performance.

Is there a tweak to force aptx bluetooth audio on 10.5.8 Leopard?

Hi all,

Just a screen from Adelie Linux running Netsurf Browser ( not perfect but very fast ).
I'm trying to get QtWebkit working properly so I can get qupzilla working right.
Unfortunately right now it quits when scrolling but it's very fast. Maybe we can get one
of these building on OSX ( there is a recent netsurf build for Intel but all the code base is
for amiga powerpc so it should play nice ).
At the back on the right is just some system load overlay ( CPU, Temps, Fan Speed ).
These packages we're built by me from source.:

- powernowd ( for CPU Power Management )

Best regards,
voidRunner

Sorry for necrothreading...
I'm failing miserably to build powernowd on Debian Sid (otherwise, the system is up and running perfectly).
It complains that change2 = decide_speed(all_cpus[cpubase+j]); - decide_speed is an undefined reference.

Any tips?

I've been scratching my head.
If I try to run a ppc32 pre-built version of powernowd, I get a "file not found". It probably tries to access something that doesn't exist anymore in the newest versions of the kernel or so?

Hi @Shiunbird. Long time subscriber of your YouTube channel. Just wanted to say that I’m glad to see you back tinkering with PowerPC though can’t help you with your problem…

(Still waiting of a possible follow-up video of the OS X server adventure 😉)

Wow - I have fans! =))))

So, I've got a G4, a G5 and a Mac Pro 1,1.
The G5 is ready to go, but both the G4 and the 1,1 are lacking storage. I should be able to decommission some HDDs in a while from other machines for the 1,1. It will be the server and the other two will boot remotely from it, and I will demonstrate all the services.

you will have better luck asking in a linux specific forums. I would try reddit.com/r/linux4noobs or https://www.reddit.com/r/debian

i do on linux with 16gb ram and hd 6970 works great when the pc market returns to normal quad will be used as an archive and retro gaming machine.
