What exactly does this do? Does this mean people can send messages to a phone number from the Messages app in 10.8.2? I like Messages and iMessage but I'm still a little behind on all of the features and limitations. Thanks.

You can already send messges to a phone number but only if they are using imessage.

10.8.2 allows you to receive messages to your phone number as well. If someone send an imessage to your phone you can enable it so that it comes to your mac ad well.

But that's nothing new. You could do the same using just an email linked to iMessage. I could see a point if you would be able to send standard text message from you mac and being charged from your mobile.

Quite stable release. I have not experienced any bugs... yet. I usually come across at least 1 or 2 minor bugs each release. Usually ones that were not fixed from previous version but I have not had any that were detrimental to my daily use.

Have it installed on 5 in house Macs at the moment.
1-MBA'12
1-MBP'09
1-iMac'11
1-Mini'11
1-iMac'09

all are running very well

Thanks. Can you reply to the phone number, even if it's from a non-iPhone user?

It's very new and a huge improvement.

Say someone sends an iMessage to your phone number.

Previous behavior: the message appears on your phone and does not appear on your Mac.

New behavior: the message will appear on both your phone and your Mac.

No only iMessage which requires an iPhone

I guess I'm still confused, because it seems like this is already working in 10.8.1. When people who use iMessage send me a message now, it shows up on both my rMBP and iPhone almost simultaneously.

----------

Safari issue not loading pages right away like it should still isn't fixed for me. Any other browser loads right away.

I've been getting a lot of loading delays and, worse, Safari crashes since 10.8 and it's worse in 10.8.1.

I've gotten at least one "Safari is not responding; visiting this page will require a reload of all open tabs" message at least once per day for the last week. Very annoying.

With 10.8.2 AND iOS 6, your phone number is now associated with any Mac's using 10.8.2. You will be prompted on your iPhone (and any other iOS 6 device) to link/use your phone number with your Mac. That is new for 10.8.2. Previously, or for 10.8.1 and iOS 5, you can use your iCloud email address (or any registered email) to send to someone's device. However, it would show as being from your email. Now, I can send a text from my Mac Pro to any iMessage enabled device and it would appear to be coming from my iPhone/number even though it is my Mac Pro or iPad, etc.

That. Is. Awesome. (oh, and being free is AWE-SOME, great for international travelers with access to WiFi)

The Mission Control in 10.8.1 is choppy/laggy most of the time with Nvidia 320M. Does anyone know if Mission Control runs butter smooth in 10.8.2 on this machine?

Also is the three finger Desktop swipe animation much faster?

:)

I found this was the case too (I've got the 320M myself) and a format resolved the issue (despite the fact I keep my caches clean, minimal plists, startup items, etc).

Kind of a random issue, but I'll ask none the less... Anyone experiencing delayed notification sounds with the latest build (12c35)? I'll get a notification banner for an email, but no sound, then anywhere between 10 seconds to a few minutes after, the new mail sound will play. I've also experienced the same thing when receiving an iMessage.

I think that my Retina MacBook runs much better with 10.8.2 build 12C35, and it runs the scale option 1920 x 1200, it runs like it should from the start! :D

The iMessage stuff is a great idea, but it's sort of halfway, since it only works with other iPhones. Those of us using Google Voice numbers have had this same capability for a long time, but it works with messages from ANY phone number, as well as with voicemail. Still not working with MMS though, which is really the last major annoyance with GV, especially as smart phones are starting to automatically send group texts as MMS.

VM too? I didn't know. How does that work via OS X? Simply call the number with the OS X app and leave a VM via your internal mic?

There's one thing I wish Apple would implement (again). While development for 10.5 "Leopard" was underway, we had a few beta's with an "iChat" feature called "Answering Machine". An outgoing video message could be left for users, and users could leave a video message in return. With "FaceTime" camera's on almost every Apple device, this would be a great idea, especially for the deaf.

Leopard beta "Answering Machine" iChat feature for FaceTime?

I actually did a clean installation of OS X 10.8.1 after a format of the Hard drive. Looking more closely at this choppy graphics issue, it doesn't start occurring until after a few hours the Macbook Pro is left on. When I start up the machine, its perfectly smooth and then after a few hours, it gets choppy again.

I don't even have many programs running and have a minimalist setup.

I noticed this yesterday but thought I was losing my mind since my phone is always on me and I'm used to hearing two notifications. I verified it today. Weird.
