Anything Special About IPhone XR LCD Display

While the resolution of the screen in the XR is actually inferior to the resolution of LCD panels in many mid-range Android phones, Apple's LCD panels are known for their calibration and near perfect color accuracy, which is something you won't generally find on mid-range Android devices.
I can imagine this conversation with a salesperson playing out in a store.
"The amazing iPhone XR has a Liquid Retina display."
"Oh! Wow! Does the Galaxy phone have that?"
"Nope. Only Apple has a Liquid Retina display."
"Sold!"

It's all marketing speak and hype because there's no such thing as Apple LCD since they use off-the-shelf components. For the iPhone Xr it seems to be Japan Display Inc (JDI) LCD panel which was also used in budget Moto G devices but you get the full display without notch cutout.

Right...just like the time you claimed the iPhone X’s oled was from the s6.
You can also find mid-range androids for about $500... at that price you can justify the screen being a lower res, a bit harder to justify it at $749+
That made me laugh, because it's exactly what will happen. Coining the term "Liquid Retina" is full of cheese, and might be the single-most gimmicky marketing spin we've ever seen from Apple. It'll work though, rest assured. They have histrically had the best LCD panels.
I couldn't quite figure if it was a twisted attempt at parody when Phil said on stage "..and it's so cool, we had to give it it's cool new name".
I still can't believe Apple is charging $1000 for an OLED display while Samsung offers the S9 at $719, considering OLED displays have been the standard offering on Android flagship phones for a number of years. 64GB at $1K for the XS and $1100 for the Max with no expandable storage is also ridiculous. I thought maybe they would release something so compelling that it would tempt me to switch back from Note 8 to an iPhone but nope. I seriously think they've jumped the shark with their pricing, specs and even naming for the phones. No wonder even deep Apple fans are disillusioned. Animojis, iOS updates, and Face ID do not justify the premium, at least for me.
My mom needs a new phone to replace her 6 Plus and I am her tech advisor. I had thought that she needs to stick with iPhone bc she is so tech-challenged but now I'm re-thinking this as lack of home button and the switch to gestures will completely rock her world.
. At least with Samsung she would have a back button and virtual home button.....

The Note 9 is $999. The price is the price. But we will see how the phones sell in the quarterly earnings report. Doesn’t it even matter?
The s9 is cheaper and sales have been terrible, note 9 sales are even worse.

I'm looking at the space grey. My iphone 6s is worth about $100 to apple, so I'll probably just turn it in. Last year I was going to get the 8+ but decided to hold out a year. I'm glad I did.Actually that note 9 is basically a s9 with a stylus and a bigger battery

In the aggregate I agree about what you said about the Note 9 vs the S9. However, this being a tech savvy fan site, whether these upgrades are worth it, or not are parsed till the cows come home.

Funny to compare becuz realistically that note 9 will outperform the iPhone in the real world in most areas.....

iPhone X on iOS 12 beta 5 outperformed the note 9.

I don’t care which is better. As long as people are buying Apple, my shares keep going up. I love Apple simply for the fact that it’s a guaranteed money making machine.

Just get her an 8 plus, that’s what I’m doing for my dad, I don’t see him adjusting well to the new gestures, and probably won’t do much better with a virtual home button.
Maybe we should stop buying Samsung Galaxy S or Note devices because the A series OLEDs might be made in the same factories? It's not like the Japan Display screens won't have wide color gamut or True Tone added. It's just a cheap crappy LCD, right?

My dad gets on with android and has a note 8 so when his iPhone 5 packs in he won’t mind.

I doubt you can even tell any real difference in real world use. It comes down to which OS and features you prefer.
As for the "Liquid retina display", it seems to be mostly marketing speak. The main technological thing seems to be the rounded corners but if they can't even explain on stage why the XR display is the "best LCD on a smartphone ever" then it's probably not that amazing. Resolution is certainly not its forte.
It’s not just LCD... it’s better then LCD... it’s Liquid Retina! I don’t know why it’s better, but with a name like Liquid Retina it’s just gotta be better!
