Good question! It would be interesting to hear from someone who did a clean install onto an XP941 or SM951 SSD with DP7.Like natively in the sense you don't have to enable it manually, or in the sense that they put back the trimforce command?

We get 5GT/s graphics on the vast majority of the modern cards available
TRIM is working natively with DP7.
I've been on the developer program and only received HS upgrades via the App Store Update mechanism; never was I provided a full installer download. I am now up to beta 7 (I believe).
I heard about the HS Public Beta as a means to get a full installer, but after signing up for that (via alternate Apple ID) it seems to be in a circular loop where I keep getting dumped onto the "sign up" info page.
So is there any other way to get the full installer in order to get the firmware update?
Just go to AppStore and download HS, that's the full installer. (Not the update page, but the page that you search and down new apps).
Yep, empty the trash also.If there is ANY HS installer in you cMP. Delete ALL of them, otherwise, Appstore may not allow you to re-download the installer again (if the installer is already there)
I know this is the Mac Pro section, but this might be relevant.
I just upgraded my mid 2012 MacBook Pro Retina to DP7 from Sierra. It has a 1TB OWC upgraded disk with trim enabled.
The upgrade took forever - 14+ hours. But it came out ok and had converted the third party SSD to APFS with trim still enabled.
I had to manually wipe and convert my system SSDs on my 5,1.
The release version of VMware works properly under DP7 without the previous issue with the library window and frequent crashing.

Nope; never had any HS installer as I had started the developer preview of H.S. through the App Store upgrade process which automatically upgraded the system versus downloading a full installer.
I logged into the App Store using both Apple ID's (one of them I supposedly signed up for the High Sierra public beta) but the only "Sierra" that is found is 10.12; no hits for High Sierra.

try logging into the apple beta portal on the web then there's a link there that will open the app store right to the high sierra page to download it
Then where is you initial installer (DP1)? You deleted it already?
For me, the only way to get kicked into the App Store High Sierra download page is to run the macOSDeveloperBetaAccessUtility.dmg file. Execute it and it auto-opens the App Store at the correct page to download the full installer, irrespective of the macOS version you are currently running. That's the crux of the problem: when I "log in" or at least "sign up" for the H.S. public beta, I kept getting dumped to the exact same "sign up" page even though it shows that I'm logged in:
https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/welcome
This is a completely different than when I'm logged into the AppleSeed program where I have different tabs, one of which is a downloads tab.
There are never any accessible "installers" as part of the AppleSeed OS program because the updates go through the App Store update mechanism which upgrades the OS automatically without any user-launchable installer. It's been like this for the past, oh, 6 years or so since I've been enrolled in this program...
Same here, this is first time I don't see Public Beta in purchased apps, but that's to expect since there's no Sierra too if you're on Sierra. For me, the only way to get kicked into the App Store High Sierra download page is to run the macOSDeveloperBetaAccessUtility.dmg file. It activated the state, which I think is kept in NVRAM.Also with my third party Samsung SSD in the Mac Mini .
Or DP7 activated only the Trimforce command I've entered already in DP5/DP6.
It is mixed. 4 SSDs with a total of 4TB of storage, 4 spinners with 18TB combined, one 6TG external for CCC backup. Time Machine is going to a server. Is your 5,1 a mixed HDD / SSD system ,or pure SSD system?
I am thinking may be only pure SSD system will be auto converted.
If that's the case, we may simply pull out all the HDD during the upgrade, only leave SSD inside the cMP.
The very first beta you installed is from a FULL INSTALLER, no matter how you get it / run it / via terminal / App Store / BT / google......
There is no combo update from Sierra to High Sierra. The very first beta you install regardless it's DP1 or PB5, it is a full installer.
You need to use TRIMFORCE. But if you had it previously enabled, it will still be enabled again.Good question! It would be interesting to hear from someone who did a clean install onto an XP941 or SM951 SSD with DP7.
Actually, that is incorrect: there are three different levels of "beta" testers, 1) paid Developer, 2) non-paying Invitation-only Customer Beta, and 3) Public Beta. I am of the second group (non-paid) and we do not get an actual FULL INSTALLER download. To enable the beta "updates" we download the "macOS Customer Beta Access Utility" which is different than the "macOS Developer Beta Access Utility" in that it only enables an OS update mechanism in the App Store without enabling a full installer download.
I was able to acquire the "macOS Developer Beta Access Utility" and hence was able to download the full DP7 installer, which proceeded to upgrade my firmware.
So I found the solution to my initial query, but I wanted to make clear that there are distinct differences in the differing levels of "beta" programs offered by Apple.
I totally understand all these betas differences. However, I INSIST that there is NO WAY you can get a combo update for Sierra to upgrade to High Sierra, No matter which group, which version.
