I would be annoyed if I forked out so much for a fault that Apple has accepted and fixed now. They should do a recall or something

I would really like to hear some more information on this... My MBP gets pretty darn hot with almost no CPU-intensive apps running and my serial number is W8609-.
Good to hear they're doing something to fix up some of the issues. I'm surprised that Apple said to return any MBPs with these problems for a replacement - that seems VERY generous.

It's called a warranty. You discover a "defect in materials or workmanship" within the first year, they are contractually obligated to fix it.
While I do hope this is the fix to the problem, I have my doubts. People on the macintouch.com Macbook Pro board have posted problems with machines having serial numbers of W6809, 10, and 12. The "12" part I have heard speculated is the week of production of the laptop, though that is just rumor as far as I know, unless someone has a better source. I hope this is the fix, because I am just waiting on a tax refund before I buy one!

It's funny... I didn't think the noise thing was a problem, as I had been working on a Thinkpad before the MacBook for about a year, and it made the noise the entire time.
Now... I launch PhotoBooth, or use MagicNoiseKiller, and it's absolutely silent !

Let's hope the 13" Macbooks start shipping with Rev. G for as long as Apple is taking to get them out!
My serial # starts with W8610 (Rev. C). What actions should I take? I'm going to go to the Apple Store when I have some time tommorow. If they supply a new laptop, will they update the harddrive with all my files from this MBP via firewire free of charge?
haha. I wouldn't be surpised if you guys are still getting parts from "Rev A" machines. They don't instantly put brand new "Rev-D" parts in machines that are in for repairs.
They did it for the iBooks a looooong time ago....

this is definately the last time im buying a rev a computer..
now that i think about it, there isn't really anything wrong with my MBP.. just a minor "whine" that i can get rid of by opening/closing an app
and it does get hot, but i think it is normal for a lap top this thin to get this hot..

Jessica, this isn't meant just for you, but that's just silly. Every model (revision) that comes out fixes some problems and introduces some of its own. Just ask the last PPC PB owners about the lines in their screens. Never happened before, but it appeared in the final revison of a long-in-the-tooth model.
Sorry, I don't buy this, "Well, that's a Rev A for you" garbage.
BTW, my Rev A iMac is still plugging along without a problem. I don't count the Capacitor Plague as an Apple problem since it was industry wide.
I was about to be really upset and then I saw that my MBP is a Rev D. Woo hoo!
