Wish it had better battery life - was thinking the bigger case would allow more than 18 hours. :(
They had to choose how to utilize the additional space - more battery is nice, but adds weight and leaves less space for the cooling. And in this case it's literally the larger air pocket inside around the M2, the more peak performance before throttling and no additional weight.
So I'm pretty sure they went for least possible and still acceptable battery life (same as 13") while not being heavier than MBP14 and hopefully more air inside too :)

8GB of memory as a base is getting more frustrating.

And I get that will be OK for some people. It's that it of course is un-upgradeable, and they never discount the obvious upgrade to 16GB that I grind my teeth a bit.

I just don't understand why Apple don't make RAM upgradeable post-purchase, either by users doing so themselves or a subsidised upgrade by taking it into an Apple store.

Saying that... M1 MBA with 8GB has been fine - there's not been one moment I've needed more but I only browse the web, use word processors/email and watch videos/streams. I always think I'll need more but never do.

YeP!
What is Thunderbolt 4?
  • 40Gb/s data transfer speed over cables of up to 2 meters (6.5 feet) in length.
  • 32 Gb/s PCIe data transfer (twice that of Thunderbolt 3)
  • Support for two 4K displays (or one 8K display)
  • At least one port supporting 100W laptop charging.
  • Wake from sleep support.
I don't think so. It's TB4 which means it has to support >1 external, right? I think so. Hope so

I'm very disappointed with the weight. 3.3 lb is just barely lower the 2018 15inch MBP which was 4 lb. I expected Apple was going to beat (or at least rival) the LG Gram in terms of weight, but it's not even close: The 15inch 2023 Gram is 2.5 lb.

I wanted to buy the 15inch MBA, in fact I've been sending several emails to Apple asking for a 15inch MBA for more than 5 years. But I expected it to be light.

I really wanted to buy it, but now, seeing the weight, I don't see it's any advantage at all over my 2018 15inch MBP.

So now I need to decide whether the larger screen is worth the trade off of a bigger SSD. Costco sale price on the 13.6" M2 Air with 512GB SSD is at $1,299...

Yep, and not sure how Apple can call those bezels thin, and it doesn't have MiniLED display. This is just a generic 15.3" laptop, weighing 3.3lbs, and runs Mac software. I mean fair enough, but there's nothing special about it, sadly.
my 16 MBP is just 4.3 pounds, M2 thought about selling it but not sure now given the small difference in weight!

When your eyes are old and you need a larger display, but don't need increased performance... might be perfect.

Which year model do you have? Did the Intels use to weigh less? I didn't think so.
Current ones are 4.7 pounds.

Can still only run 1 external monitor I bet, doesn't matter how big the MBA is.

Also Apple need to stop comparing how fast their chips are to Intel - that transition happened 3 years ago....
Yeah, but Intel is still around and they are still the competition for some folk.

No external dual-monitor support?
This is something pretty much all the modern Intel consumer grade Macs supported (of course Apple wants you to upgrade to the Pro models)
